The one during the freshman race is both heartwarming and hilarious, as, rejuvenated, he pedals dramatically off into his distance...while forgetting all the supplies that the seniors gave to him. Cue the rest of the club's collective FaceVault.

* TheLoad: Onoda sometimes sees himself as this to the cycling club, especially when he compares himself to the extremely talented Imaizumi and Naruko. This self doubt is especially noticeable after [[spoiler:the freshmen qualify for the interhigh]], though it's quickly put to rest by the rest of the team's encouragement.

* TheIdiotFromOsaka: Dear ''lord'', Naruko. If you somehow missed this from [[HotBlooded his]] [[GenkiGirl whole]] [[FieryRedhead attitude]] and the obvious [[KansaiRegionalAccent accent]], his biking gear has [[BroughtToYouByTheLetterS KANSAI]] scrawled across it in block caps just to remind you of this fact.

* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Onoda's burning desire to have friends is practically his defining trait in the beginning of the series. He tries so hard to revive the anime club in order to have the chance to be around people who are [[{{Otaku}} similar to him]], and later swears to do his best in the cycle club in order to gain acceptance from his fellow members.

* FreudianTrio: The freshmen trio, with Naruko being the Id, Imaizumi as the Superego and Onoda fitting it as the Ego.

* TallDarkAndHandsome: Imaizumi, who's one of the [[{{Bishonen}} prettiest looking]] among the main cast and is a good head taller than both Onoda and Naruko.

* ChromaticArrangement: The freshmen trio fit this perfectly. Imaizumi, who tends to be as cool as a cucumber, is heavily associated with blue. The [[HotBlooded extremely passionate]] Naruko tends to be represented by red. And Onoda, the [[GenkiGirl most cheerful]] of the lot, is linked to bright, sunny yellows. For bonus points, both their bikes, cycling clothes and everyday wear follow this theme to.

* GenkiGirl: Onoda is adorably upbeat when he focuses on something he likes, be it anime or cycling. While this part of him can easily be overlooked at the start of the series, due to him tending to be [[ShrinkingViolet very withdrawn]], as time passes and [[CharacterDevelopement he becomes more confident]] it becomes one of his defining character traits.

* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Onoda's burning desire to have friends is practically his defining trait in the beginning of the series. * WeakButSkilled: Onoda in a nutshell. Yes, he has an amazing pedaling technique, but falls woefully short in both the stamina and overall fitness categories compared to the other club members.

** Beautifully subverted during the Freshman Race, to the point of encroaching into SecondPlaceIsForWinners territory. Sure, [[spoiler:Onoda]] had to be [[spoiler: retired from the race]] and thus automatically came in [[spoiler:last]] place...but he ''did'' reach the top of a difficult mountain summit well before some of the more seasoned riders, an achievement which is greatly applauded by the rest of the club.

* ActionPrologue: The show opens with a shot of all the cycle club, Onoda included, in the middle of a heated race. Which makes pre-cycle club!Onoda's [[TemptingFate comments]] even ''more'' funny.
