''Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun'' (original Japanese title: 魔入りました!入間くん, ''Mairimashita! Iruma-kun''), is a weekly shonen manga by Osamu Nishi. It runs in the Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine published by Akita Shoten, and began its serialization on March 2, 2017.

Iruma Suzuki is a sweet, normal boy whose irresponsible parents have led him time and again into life-threatening events. And this time, they've gone and sold his soul to a demon!... who wants to adopt him as his grandson and send him off to a school full of demons! Now, Iruma must try and become and get through school without anyone finding out that he's a human!

An anime adaptation by Creator/BandaiNamcoPictures began airing on October 5, 2019, the first season of which ran for 23 episodes. A second season has been confirmed to be in production and will begin airing in Spring 2021.

* ThirteenIsUnlucky: The meeting of the greatest heroes of the Netherworld is called the 13 Dinner.
** [[spoiler: Amy's prison number is 1313.]]
* AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil: Subverted: They do have a lot of influence over the faculty, which is how Iruma was able to get permission slips from several teachers, however they are also still seen as another student group and are subjected to the same rules as them.
* AdaptationDeviation: Starting from Episode 8, the anime changes up the ordering of some of the chapters it adapts. Episode 8 in particular moves the events of Chapter 17 to the middle of Chapter 13. Because this episode takes place before the Cannonball Execution Game, Iruma took Classroom Lectures as an Elective as to not stand out rather than because his body was sore.
* AdaptationExpansion: Has its own page [[AdaptationExpansion/MairimashitaIrumaKun here]]
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: [[spoiler: When Iruma gets his personality flipped from nice to bad]], the girls at the school suddenly gain crushes on him.
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: [[PlayingWithATrope Played With]]. Demons seem to have a strong natural inclination to do evil, but pretty much everything about their society is set up to turn them into more-or-less decent people. But even then, Babyls still offers courses in torture techniques.
* ArbitrarySkepticism:
** Only high ranking demons are even aware of the human realm. Due to this, most of the students think that humans are just a myth. Which is a bit odd since their School Song is pretty much just about how they will devour humans.
** [[spoiler: No one believes Iruma when he states his ring became sentient.]]
* AmbiguousGender:
** One of the members of the Student Council. In the manga the character is drawn in a way that it's hard to tell if they're a female or a very feminine male. The anime however explicitly shows her to be a girl.
** Then there's Opera, Sullivan's trusted butler.
* AmusementPark: There's Walter Park, owned by the Ronove family, which has almost everything one could expect from such a place, from attractions, to snacks, to gift shops. It does have shades of AmusementParkOfDoom, however, as the source of magical power to operate the whole park is provided by prisoners held in a prison located underneath, along with the place originally being built as somewhere for demons to vent their "wicked phases", with various shady and illegal businesses continuing to operate out of back alleys there.
* AsLongAsItSoundsForeign: None of the Hebrew script actually means anything.
* Literature/ArsGoetia: The family names of some notable demons are one of 72.
* AuthorAppeal: All of the most attractive girls in this series are also [[StatuesqueStunner noticeably tall]].
* BaitAndSwitch:
** Following being sold by his parents to Sullivan, it looked like something terrible would happen to Iruma. Cut to the next scene, and he's sitting on a chair surrounded by gifts being pampered with a look of utter confusion on his face.
** Ameri knows that Humans exist because she states she has access to ancient Human Texts. In the Anime this is shown to be a wall of books surrounded by light, suggesting that these are some powerful artifacts. Once she opens it up its revealed the books are actually a romance manga.
** Ami wondered what caused a strange feeling in his chest every time he was looked down upon and shunned, and didn't figure it out until he saw his childhood friend lose her most precious item. [[spoiler: He discovered he was actually feeling ecstasy and was getting off on the misery.]]
** Sabnock sees there is a Demon King's club and rushes to join, thinking this would be a club filled with people looking to become Demon King. What he finds is a group of nerds who use the club to study the writings of the Demon King. However, Sabnock quickly becomes engrossed into the writings and joins anyway.
* BlatantLies:
** Despite his clothes showing he had to ruff up some people, Azu states he only "peacefully talked" to get others to leave Clara alone. Iruma doesn't buy it.
** Ameri didn't take the Manga because she enjoys it, she took it because she needed to study it.
** Ameri isn't making Iruma read her manga because she wants him to, she is having him read it to confirm he is a human. Also she won't be able to confirm it till he reads her the entire series. She is just being thorough.
* BrickJoke: The reason why Sullivan wanted a grandkid is because his friends keep bragging about theirs and it made him jealous. Later on during their meeting, his friends start it off by gushing about their grandchildren.
* CallARabbitASmeerp: Due to the Demon World being completely isolated from the human world for countless generations, and the fact demons overall favor a heavy "evil" aesthetic, there are many mundane objects and activities that wind up getting called something scary and/or overly-dramatic, such as referring to the game of dodgeball as "Cannon Ball Execution".
* CanonForeigner: A few of the tertiary characters from the anime, such as the purple cyclops girl who views herself as the most beautiful girl in school, and the dragon girl often found interacting with Eiko, are completely original to the anime.
* CastOfSnowflakes: Almost everybody in the story has a distinctive design, from the main characters to incidental background demons. Many of them are so distinct that they're still recognizable when acting as part of FacelessMasses.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Due to their cultural differences, Iruma's demonic friends and schoolmates often interpret his actions and words as [[MistakenForBadass shows of strength and him flexing his great demonic powers]], which isn't helped by his AchievementsInIgnorance. Even when he's not doing anything in particular, such as walking to school instead of flying as he has no innate magical powers, that could still be misconstrued as him willfully limiting himself to challenge his own strength.
* CrashIntoHello: How Iruma and Ameri first meet, mirroring a scene from her shoujo manga. Because she can't actually read them she suspected it's a human love spell and believed Iruma was trying to make her fall in love with him.
* CrazyPrepared: Parodied when Iruma was getting ready for Walter Park. He and Sullivan prepared a backpack for everything Iruma might need, which is shown to be a backpack filled so much its twice the height and about four times as wide as Iruma. Opera objects to Iruma taking it.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Sullivan's two peers are likely on the same level of power and threat as him. They are also loving doting grandparents who spend much of their important meeting sharing stories of their grandkids.
* CurbStompBattle: In the Walter Park arc, Kalego Naberius, Shichirou Balam, and Opera face down [[spoiler:a fusion of the three giant monsters. The former two demons are rank 8, and while Opera's rank is unknown they still are capable of terrifying Kalego. The battle is over in swift course when the three take the beast on. Their students and Iruma wonder if just one would have yielded the same easy result]].
* CuteMonsterGirl: While they may be demons, all the female students and teachers definitely count as this. The ED even focuses on them,
* CustomUniform: Many students who have unusual body proportions wear these, though some atypical ones just wears them to suit their tastes.
* DealWithTheDevil: The whole plot gets kicked off when Iruma's irresponsible parents sell him off to Sullivan for money.
* DidntThinkThisThrough:
** Iruma had this reaction when he realized he just healed the monster that was going to eat him. Luckily this was an AndroclesLion situation.
** After training days on end to catch the ball for the Dodgeball game, Iruma realized during the game after he caught it he never trained on throwing it back.
** Ronove is pissed that the monster (who has just destroyed the theme park and is charging a beam to obliterate the survivors) is not focused on him and demands it to look at him. He then remembers that this monster is about to ''obliterate a stadium'' and is now looking in his direction.
* EpicFail:
** Iruma, at the beginning, tried whatever he could to either get less noticed or get expelled from the school, as he was terrified at the thought of being discovered and eaten. However, everything he tries always backfires to make him even more noticed by the staff and the students.
** Clara's attempts at "seducing". This is because she is so childlike that she took all of her instructions with a LiteralMinded approach (told to wear perfume so she dunks it on herself, told to wear makeup so she looks like a clown, told to dress up so she gets a prop costume, told to hold onto a guy so she hangs on him.)
* EveryoneHasStandards: They may be demons, but even they were creeped out on how much [[spoiler: Ami got off on misery, even if it was his own]].
* ExactWords: When Iruma was made to give a speech on opening day, Sullivan gave him one with a note saying this is so he won't "trip and fall on you're first day". After reading it one of the teachers tells him it was a forbidden spell that if said incorrectly would have blown him apart, but since he said it correctly it will prevent him from tripping or falling for the entire day.
* ExplainExplainOhCrap: Iruma has this happen to him after he bumps into Ameri and sees her copy of a Manga. He starts explaining how it brings back memories, states he can read it, and wonders what a copy of it is doing in the Netherworld. Its at this point he realized he all but told the demon in front of him he was a human.
* ExtranormalInstitute: Babyls is a school for Demons. Besides the student body it actually acts like a normal school.
* FailedASpotCheck: During the race, Azu didn't notice that Clara was riding on his back since the start until she started talking. Because of this she got second place.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** It is heavily implied that Iruma will at some point become the next Demon King.
** It is implied that there was another reason Sullivan bought Iruma rather than just to be a DotingGrandparent.
** Iruma's ring keeps causing him to grab Ami by the throat. [[spoiler: It is later revealed by Arikured that he was doing that to warn Iruma that he was a BitchInSheepsClothing]].
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: During the Walter Park arc, Opera and Ameri [[spoiler:are fighting a giant dragon while Clara is seen hanging onto its tail in the background like it is a ride]].
* GotVolunteered:
** Kalego suffers this from the Principal:
*** In chapter 68, he is forced to make home visits and give his assessments to the parents or guardians of each of his students.
*** In chapter 69 he is forced to be an escort of Iruma and his friends at Walter Park.
** After [[spoiler:the Magic Item Research Club is temporarily disbanded]], Ameri made Iruma become [[spoiler:a member of the Student Council.]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Kalego, as a familiar, demands Iruma to undo the summoning. Balas Robin stops him from doing so by citing the school guidelines "be dignified and never allow specific exemptions". The person who wrote said guideline was Kalego himself.
* HopeBringer: Kuromu uses her popularity and adoration of the general populace to help [[spoiler:people trapped in the refuge center during the Walter Park terrorist attack. She helps them overcome their fear and panic, which giving into could turn them more violent later on, with her singing and charms]].
* HypocriticalHumor: Ameri states if you wish to cause a ruckus, "DO IT QUIETLY!".
* InternalReveal:
** It isn't until Ch.19 of the manga/Ep.12 of the anime that Iruma finds out Ameri is the Student Council President.
** Chapter 64 has [[spoiler:Iruma tell Balam that he is a human]].
* InterspeciesRomance: There are quite a number of girls who either are romantically pining after Iruma or at least find him cute. All of whom are demons while he's human. Of course, besides Ameri, who is aware he might be a human but doesn't know for certain, most of them think he's a demon, so it doesn't come to mind for the majority of them. But Iruma is very much aware that he's not the same species as any of the girls around him, even if [[CluelessChickMagnet he's not aware some of them like him that way]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Kalego couldn't care less about his students. When Sabnock went to where he knew a powerful monster lives, he just wrote him off as dead on his checklist. He also doesn't like Iruma, believing he is the kind of student [[{{Nepotism}} that is just riding on his grandfather's name]] and tried to get him expelled, unaware that Iruma also wanted to get expelled. This doesn't help when Iruma accidentally makes him his familiar. However, as the series progresses, he does have a HiddenHeartOfGold beneath that grumpy exterior, but would rather keep it concealed from others.
* LaboriousLaziness: The Misfit Class studies their butts off for the finals so they can enjoy their break and not take extra classes during it.
* LackOfEmpathy: Chapter 77 reveals this is a defining of [[spoiler:all demons. If there is a problem that doesn't personally affect them or someone they already care about and the danger is too high, then they will not get involved. In this instance, only Iruma acts to save some kids trapped in rubble during the Walter Park fight because of the danger of the monster near them and the area might collapse puts off even the staff of the company. Even Azz and Balam don't move until Iruma gets involded]].
* LastSecondWordSwap: After witnessing Ameri [[spoiler:take down the panter rat monster during the Walter Park arc]] Opera offers Ameri a job when she graduates to be their assistant but swaps to saying the principal's at the last moment.
* LetNoCrisisGoToWaste: While Kalego is stuck observing some of his students at Walter Park [[spoiler:a terrorist attack happens and a giant minotaur-like monster is attacking near him and his students. He decides this is an excellent time for a pop quiz of sorts, and has his students see if they can defeat the beast. When they are barely successful in knocking the beast down but celebrate too soon, he moves in and effortlessly saves them, decreasing their grades for this action]].
* LikeMotherLikeDaughter: Clara's mother introduces herself to Iruma and Azz the same way Clara did, along with wearing the same kind of shoes as her.
* MightAsWellNotBeInPrisonAtAll: Despite having everyone of the security forces in the room, the moment Sullivan decided he no longer wanted to be there anymore, they knew full well there was nothing they could do to stop him from leaving.
* MirrorMoralityMachine:
** Someone uses a potion on [[spoiler:Ameri that reverses her personality, going from a tough no nonsense tomboy to an adorably shy cute girl. She is also no where near as competent as she was before, but everything she does is so cute the rest of the Student Council don't have the heart to tell her.]]
** Just after that Arc, [[spoiler:Iruma's ring does this to him to stimulate his "wicked phase" a time when demons become darker versions of their normal personalities.]]
* MonsterIsAMommy: The Leader of Kanakiri Valley, a giant black feathery monster seen as impossible to fight against by the school, is the parent of a large bird monster Iruma heals. It's thanks to that Iruma was able to save Sabnock from getting killed.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: One of the forbidden spells, that if pronounced incorrectly, would result in the speaker having their limbs explode, makes the speaker unable to fall over for the day. It's more useful than it sounds.

[[folder:N-Z]]
* NoodleIncident: What ever had Iruma face-to-face with a bear and getting shot at by the Mob.
* NotHyperbole: Early on, Clara stated her shoes have names. At first it is just to show off she is a {{Cloudcuckoolander}}. Later on Iruma finds out they are actually alive.
* NotWhatItLooksLike:
** Iruma decides to practice his ring's new ability to change his outfit. It changes him into a frilly girls outfit just as Ameri walks in on him.
** Ameri comes across Iruma, once again in a frilly dress, on top of Kelor.
* NumberOfTheBeast: This series seems to try to find any way it can to insert 666 into something.
** The school has 666 students in all 6 grades.
** The meeting of the three Demon Lord candidates takes place on the 666th floor.
** In the Anime, Sullivan does an Ok sign with his three fingers curled. This is shown to represent 666.
** Also in the Anime, the demon school started its morning assembly in Episode 1 at 6:06. It would have probably been 6:66 if it was possible for a clock to actually be at that time.
** In the anime Azu stated he waited six hours and six minutes for Iruma on the first day of school.
** The Battra Rookie Hunt lasts for 66 minutes.
** Shax states that Kuromu's magnification power is 666 too much.
** The time when Kurori's performance is meant to start in the anime is 6:06:06.
** In the anime Momonoki Morax asks Clara to read from Page 66.
** In the anime, Goemon stated he bought 66 copies of Kuromu new song.
** Professor Balam made a picture book titled ''"666 Lil' Cerberus"''.
* OnceAnEpisode: Every episode of the anime has a [[TheStinger stinger]] between the credits and preview. They all start with Clara saying "sukima" in varying pitches and tones, followed by short clips with simpler animation and a less-detailed art-style. Some of them are based on omakes included in the vol. 1 manga release, others are anime-original, but each of them is a small scene that relates to the events of the episode they accompany in some way.
* ThePowerOfBlood: Iruma discovers that human blood appears to be able to heal demons.
* PublicSecretMessage: Ameri tells her father that Iruma is "A Very Excellent Demon". He seems to understand what she means and leaves Iruma alone after that.
* {{Pun}}:
** The cellphones in this world are called Hellphones.
** Iruma drinks Hell Grey Tea.
** There's actully quite a few puns involving the character 魔 (read "ma"), although the Crunchyroll translation can seem like it's forcing itself to make the puns work at times (e.g. hellraiser clock = ''mezamashi dokei'' [[note]] alarm clock[[/note]]). For another example, in the series title the word ''mairu'' is a formal way of saying "to come" or "to go", but it uses that "ma" and a more standard way of saying "to enter" (normally read ''hairu'', but can also be read ''iru'').
* RealityEnsues:
** Many wonder how Sullivan has a grandkid when he doesn't even have children.
** Despite Iruma finding out the Cannon Ball Execution game was just Dodgeball, it's still played by demons who have enough strength to make the game quite lethal.
** The Student Council is treated the same as any other club. [[spoiler: If their ability to perform their duties falters they can be suspended just like the rest of them.]]
** Sullivan grants Iruma the ability to read the language of demons, but Iruma still lacks the understanding of concepts and terms that others grew up in, such as discussing potential yield of a magical attack while in battle.
* RedHerring: We are lead to believe the flamboyant president of the Discipline Division is the one behind [[spoiler: Ameri's personality change]] as his group has the most to gain from the [[spoiler: Student Council failing.]] It turns out to be [[spoiler: just a random student who wanted to see a sweet version of Ameri.]]
* RememberedTooLate: Sullivan calls up Iruma to tell him he forgot to mention after he fed his ring his magic Iruma can now use magic and to not use it until he had some time to adjust the output, just seconds after Iruma jokingly used magic on his plant.
* RuleOfCool: The main reason Sabnock wants to be the Demon King? Because in his mind the Demon King is the coolest.
* RunningGag:
** In the anime Eiko keeps missing her chance to talk to Iruma.
** Every time Kalego has to explain something, he is forced to use a very cutesy video that explains the rules. This usually ends with him destroying said screen in frustration after its done.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: It is suggested that Kalego put Iruma and Azz on separate teams during the Cannon Ball Execution game to see if Azz would throw the game to help Iruma. Made more explicit in the anime.
* SeriousBusiness: The Three Greats take great pride in proving they have the best grandchild.
* SharedFamilyQuirks:
** One of the reasons Kalego greatly dislikes Iruma is because he sees him as having several of the traits he can't stand that are the same as those of the Principal.
** Clara's family are all {{Cloudcuckoolander}}s.
* ShipTease:
** It is heavily hinted that Clara and Ameri have a crush on Iruma. [[spoiler: Confirmed with Ameri as of Chapter 52.]]
** The teacher Momonoki appears to have a crush on Kalego.
* ShoutOut: Clara's slippers, Connor and Murph, are named after Connor and Murphy [=MacManus=] from Film/TheBoondockSaints.
* TheSociopath: While it's revealed that the demons in the setting suffer a LackOfEmpathy towards other demons not related to them or otherwise, these two exhibits an extreme case of sociopathy.
** [[spoiler:Ami Kirio]] appears to be a weak demon boy who [[spoiler:befriends Iruma and his friends]] but is in truth a manipulative sadomasochist who got off on despair whether it be others or his own. He conspired with [[spoiler:Baal]] to trap the student body with his barrier magic the ultimate plan being to [[spoiler:detonate a bomb to kill all the students and in that ensuing chaos, the students' families would be driven back to their primal states]]. [[spoiler:Ami]] explains to Iruma that he became aware of his sadomasochism when he was sent to a rehabilitation school due to his low magical abilities and it was there he befriended a girl who loaned him her prized earring. When he accidentally destroyed it when trying to retrieve it from two bullies, he got a nosebleed from the sight of his former friend's grieving face.
** [[spoiler:Baal]], one of the [[spoiler:Thirteen Crowns of the Netherworld]] who had grown bored with the current state of the Netherworld and masterminded the attempted bombing of the demon school so that it would send the Netherworld back to its days of chaos.
* SpeakingSimlish: Implied. Demons cannot understand human speech and vice versa, and until Sullivan applied a translation spell onto him all Iruma hears is gibberish. Everybody speaks perfect Japanese for the sake of TranslationConvention, however, up to and including using standard lingo and slangs.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS:
** The name of the [[Franchise/HarryPotter Hogwarts]] {{Expy}} that Iruma and co. attend could be read as "Babyls", "Babirus", "Babyrus" and "Babylus". The anime for the most part goes with the first one, while the manga uses them interchangeably depending on who's translating that day.
** The name demons give to clubs can be translated as Battra, Battler, and Batora. Like with the school name, the anime mostly sticks with the first one, while the manga uses whatever the current translator of the chapter decided to translate it as.
* SpontaneousChoreography: Episode 8 has the Valac family do this after cheering up Clara when she came home.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution; Azz and Clara are upset they have no idea where Iruma just randomly leaves (To go read a manga to Ameri). Sabro just tells them to follow him and find out. Azz is against it but Clara immediately heads off to do just that.
* StudentCouncilPresident: Ameri holds this position, which led to her discovering the [[Main/ShoujoDemographic ancient human texts]].
* SuplexFinisher: Due to a spell that makes it impossible for Iruma to fall down for one day, he accidentally defeats Asmodeus with a perfect German Suplex. [[DefeatMeansFriendship Which is how he ended up becoming friends with Azz.]]
* SympathyForTheDevil: [[spoiler: Despite Ami nearly blowing up the school, Iruma still thinks he deserves credit for the clubs victory with their firework project.]]
** In this case it's probably less about sympathy and more about acknowledging and stating facts and giving credit where credit is due.
* TakeOffYourClothes: Ameri orders Iruma to do this. It takes a second for Ameri to realize what she said and she clarifies she doesn't want him in his [[spoiler: Student Council Uniform]] when he reads her the next manga.
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Kalego had this reaction when Sullivan instructed him to visit the parents of his students.
** Turns into a ScrewThisImOuttaHere when he goes to Clara's house.
* TowerOfBabel: The 13 Dinner takes place at a large tower named Babel.
* TranslatorMicrobes: Sullivan uses his magic to allow Iruma to read and understand the demon language.
* TrainingFromHell:
** Iruma does this with Opera to prepare himself for the Cannonball Execution Game.
** Ameri puts her Student Council members, [[spoiler:including Iruma]], through this everyday as a morning exercise.
* UndyingLoyalty: The Student Council is only there to support Ameri. After it is revealed they were RecruitedFromTheGutter by her it's not hard to understand why.
* VisualPun: in the anime OP, there's a couple of shots of Azz, Iruma and Clara dancing against a disco background - if you look at their hands, they all have every finger curled in except their pinky and forefinger, which is often called devil's horns!
* VitriolicBestBuds: Azz tends to tolerate Clara because Iruma likes her than because he himself does. The two of them are polar opposites and often bicker over Clara's antics. The narration notes that, after they bonded by trying to cook for Iruma, their number of conflicts ''increase''.
* WorthIt: Both Sabnock and Iruma were disqualified from the race from going out of bounds, but Sabnock states it was worth it for the reaction he got from the teacher when they returned on the back of the Leader of Kanakiri Valley.
* WorthyOpponent: Sabnock thinks of this towards Iruma after he saved him from the Leader of Kanakiri Valley.
* YearInsideHourOutside: It's implied that time in the demon world moves at a much faster rate than in the mundane. At least in the manga, Ameri's stash of "Forbidden Books" was noted to be a hand-me-down from prior generations of her lineage, while Iruma claims it's only been a few years old as he was one of the assistants of the author.
* YourSizeMayVary: Poor Iruma can't seem to keep a consistent height. At the start of the series, he's taller than Clara, at Asmodeus' shoulders, and Ameri's chest level. By the later manga chapters Clara seems to match him, Asmodeus has two heads on him, and Iruma fluctuates between Ameri's navel and her hips - [[https://i.redd.it/xlgjjo0qeqj41.jpg even on the same page]].
