* AdaptationalVillainy: It's established that Saki's mother, Natsu, is in jail for killing her husband, Toshiya, but her sympathetic reasons to do so (that he was a violent abuser who made her life hell) are omitted in some continuities, making her a murderer without redeeming qualities. The OVA notably adapts the abuse story out and replaces it with the theory by Remi that she simply went insane.
* AdaptationalWimp: In the TV series, Saki is left-handed because she broke her dominant right hand while punching a fellow inmate in the juvenile detention center, which made her a bit weaker. This was written for the series because her actress Yuki Saito is a natural left-hander. (Ironically the actress of the second Saki, Yoko Minamino, is a left-hander as well.)

* BookDumb: Saki has bad grades, as she lacks both time and interest to study. Principal Numa believes he would improve a lot with a bit of effort, though not in English - she's ''really'' bad at that.
* BoxedCrook: Saki is recruited from prison by the government and is allowed freedom if she agrees to become an undercover cop for them.

* LighterAndSofter: The TV series, where the darkest moments of the manga are excised from and some character are given more heroic personalities.
