* HumansAreTheRealMonsters: Planet Remina, despite being the catalyst for all the chaos and [[spoiler:managing to successfully devour Earth with little trouble,]] is never given much characterization beyond being a giant thing that likes eating planets, and it's unknown if it can even [[BlueAndOrangeMorality understand the ethical consequences of its actions]]. A majority the plot is instead focused on the humans who use the planet as an excuse to focus all their fear and anger on the human Remina, declaring that she has to die in extreme suffering just because the planet is named after her.

* HateSink: In-universe, human Remina is turned into one by those who blame her for planet Remina's appearance. From a meta-perspective, the leader of the cultists who keeps compelling everyone else to kill Remina is the largest one, especially after he's revealed to be the [[spoiler:Goda, who took Remina's rejection of him as an excuse to kill her,]] though there are certainly others such as the rich elite who attempt to escape the destruction of Earth by fleeing to planet Remina.

* DoggedNiceGuy: Goda tries to put on this facade whenever he's specifically talking to Remina before feeling rejected, in the hopes that Remina will eventually fall in love with him. In actuality, Goda shows little regard for her feelings or agency, and only wants Remina to fulfil his own desires towards her. Whenever he interacts with anyone else, he will curse at them, insult them, or in some ocassions beat the crap out of them.

* WhipItGood: The head cultist's weapon of choice.

* AnAesop: Surprisingly enough for a Creator/JunjiIto story, it ends with a clear and uplifting one. [[spoiler:No matter how badly things have gone, no matter how bleak the future seems, so long as you are still alive there is hope for something better.]]

There are a few human survivors that escaped Earth's annihilation thanks to a bunker, but it only has enough supplies to last them for a year and all they can do is pray for a miracle to save them, and Remina is still distraught by the deaths of her father and manager.]]

* HumansAreSurvivors: Brought up again by the hobo, who notes that the cultists chasing them in a misguided attempt to stop the Hellstar is merely demonstrating the indomitable human's will to survive. By the end, the hobo plays this trope straighter by [[spoiler: defying the odds and leading a few survivors to safety just before the world ends.]]

* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: The story takes place in the year 20XX and features some near-futuristic elements, such as flying cars and martian bases. However, humanity is nowhere near advanced enough to stand a chance against the Hellstar or even have enough ships to evacuate the population.

Deconstructed as its clear that they're just normal people that are terrified and desperate to survive.

* RedHerring: It's implied that one of the astronauts that land on Planet Remina is the long-lost son of the Mineichi family, who dreamed of becoming a astronaut and ran away from home after his father forbade it. [[spoiler:He's not, the son is actually The Hobo.]]

* MacrossMissileMassacre[=/=]NukeEm: The military fires a few dozen nuclear warheads at Planet Remina's tongue. [[spoiler:They bounce off and return to sender.]]

* TheApocalypseBringsOutTheBestInPeople: Painfully deconstructed. Only a few people are decent wile others such as [[spoiler:Goda]] are selfish assholes are in it for themselves. And thusly, [[spoiler:Reima, Daisuke, and a couple of people are the only survivor, but their survivability is rather slim, since Daisuke tells them they have a year]].

* TheApocalypseBringsOutTheBestInPeople: Painfully deconstructed.

* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Mineishi. He's happy to sponsor Remina to boost his popularity, but he's just as happy to [[spoiler:turn her over to an angry mob once associating with her threatens him]].

* JerkAssHasAPoint: Goda attacks Kunihiro and calls him a scumbag for abandoning him and Remina to the cultists. While this causes Remina to turn on Goda and call him the "worst", he turns out to he right when Kunihiro tried to rape Remina before handing her over to the mob.

* HatesTheJobLovesTheLimelight: Inverted with Remina. Remina takes on the offer of being a popstar, believing that this will benefit her, and coming to terms with how people won't stop chasing after her. Despite this, she's still not entirely comfortable with the limelight she's received.
