Daigo Shigeno loves baseball. Ever since he was an infant Daigo's been surrounded by baseball. His father, Goro, is a famous Japanese baseball player. When Daigo becomes a fourth grader he decides to join his local Little League team, the Mifune Dolphins, of hope of becoming as good a baseball player as his dad.

Unfortunately, Daigo becomes frustrated due to his lack of skill combined with peer pressure to live up to his father's legacy. Within a year Daigo gives up his dream. Now an apathetic sixth grader, Daigo's desire to play is rekindled when he meets Hikaru Sato, the son of his father's friend and rival Toshiya Sato.
