When she does, she is so unstable and wrecked with survivor guilt that she abuses him and herself. When she can't stand it anymore [[spoiler:she tries to commit suicide.]] He stops her but she runs away straight after, intending to leave his life forever. Fortunately [[spoiler:things got better for both from that point onward.]]
* BreakTheHaughty: At the start of the story Asuka is [[AcePilot the top pilot on the base]], she knows it, and ensures -loudly- that everyone else also knows it. However her performance has been slipping and she lost a coveted assignment to another pilot. Then she challenged [[TheRival the newcomer pilot]] to a [[OldSchoolDogFight duel]] and she lost. [[BelligerentSexualTension Her conflicting feelings]] towards Shinji got her distracted and she botched a mission. When she woke up she blamed herself for it and [[spoiler:her best friend's death]]. She was so affected that she tried to [[spoiler:tried to kill herself]] and when Shinji stopped her, she ran away.

* DrowningMySorrows: In chapter 10 Shinji has spent several months keeping watch over [[spoiler:his comatose [[HeroesWantRedheads girlfriend]]]] Asuka, not knowing [[spoiler:whether she will ever wake up or not]] and his father -whom he has not seen in years- shows up to lecture him about -supposedly- neglecting his duties because he is infatuated with a pretty face. So, feeling even more angry and depressed, Shinji went to a bar to drown his sorrows in alcohol.

* GuileHero: Gendo and Fuyutsuki –especially the latter- spend most their time negotiating with politicians and bureaucrats in Washington. They find it very tiresome and distressing.

* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Misato -unsurprisingly, given the original material- and [[{{Tsundere}} Asuka]] drink a lot in parties. [[FieryRedhead Asuka]], though, does not follow all usual associated traits, since [[NeverGetsDrunk she hardly gets drunk]] and she is [[TheHero Shinji]] [[HeroesWantRedheads Ikari's]] [[LoveInterest partner]].

* HurtingHero: Let's see: [[TheHero Shinji]] [[ConvenientlyAnOrphan lost his mother when he was a little kid]], [[ParentalNeglect his father never was around and their relationship is barely existent]], he did not really care for his own life until he met [[HeroesWantRedheads Asuka]], and the woman that he loves is constantly hurt, falling apart and self-destructing; Asuka constantly feels that her world is collapsing, [[spoiler:lost her best friend and blames herself for her demise,]] and sees herself as a wrecked failure that only hurts people; Rei got brain damage during a plane crash that rendered her [[EmotionlessGirl emotionless]] and is conflicted about the person that she loves; Kaworu tries to help everyone but he is never sure of doing it right; Saburo broke up with his boyfriend because he got neglected and jealous, he regretted it, and now wants to get Kaworu back, but Kaworu does NOT want him back; Misato is often hurting because her soldiers are hurt or falling apart...

* {{NSFW}}: The doujin features plenty of nakedness and sex scenes. However the creator has stated that he is trying to emulate ''Manga/ReTake'' and make sex scenes only when he believes that the plot warrants it.
