Most of those are just regular plot twists, not Wham Episodes.

* MagicRealism:
** When Shirayuki visits her children for the first time, she casually discusses the fact that they ''aren't human'' like she's asking about their diet, under the presumption they've already broached the topic with the Yonomori family.
** The Mitsumines, the Suetsugis, and the Komagamines go to school, eat sweets, watch television, text their friends and family . . . while being animal-shifting youkai.
** Although the Mitsumines live in a mystical, fog-shrouded "gap", they nonetheless get [=WiFi=].

* OneDegreeOfSeparation: On a whim, Konoha follows another youkai she crosses paths with, only for the other youkai (Shirayuki Mitsumine) to warmly greet ''Konoha's'' mother. Later, it's revealed Konoha's mother had a crush on Shirayuki's future husband. Later still, she tries to set Konoha up with Shirayuki's nephew, meaning Konoha might become Hakuya & Mashiro's cousin-in-law.

* WhamEpisode:
** At the end of episode 3, Benio tells Kobeni more about what happened between her and Hakuya. While she didn't hear all the details, Benio tells her sister that she used to play with Hakuya when they were younger, and when she fell down a cliff, he tried to save her but ended up going down as well. However, his action ended up saving her, and Kobeni starts to piece together things said earlier to figure out what happened.
** Episode 5: Hakuya and Mashiro's mother, Shirayuki, pays Kobeni's home a visit, and in the process reveals her family's biggest secret: that they're not human, and what's more, Hakuya gave up half of his power to save Kobeni's life. In fact, it's because of this power that Kobeni has periodically gotten sick -- it's because, as she's a normal human, her body can't handle it.
** In episode 8, Konoha delivers a WhamLine to Hakuya. She reveals that her mother told her to snag a male {{Youkai}} for herself if she ever ran into one, so she proposes to him, with Kobeni within earshot.
** In episode 11, Kobeni finds out that Hakuya has a scar on the right side of his face, likely due to the accident she suffered with him years earlier. While both he and Mashiro tell her not to worry abou it, she still feels responsible for it. Then at the end of the episode, they receive another message from home, and are both gone by the next morning.

* {{Brainwashed}}: Youkai possess the power of hypnosis, which they can use to blend in with humans. Or, in Konoha's case, to [[MundaneUtility get a spot on the student council near the light of her life, Benio.]] The hypnosis also requires the youkai to be physically present, or else it starts to wear off; when Mashiro and Hayuka got sick and had to stay with their mother, their classmates began to forget all about them.

When Benio found out she's a youkai, Konoha frets about her idol treating her differently, yet Benio says nothing at all. On Kobeni Yonomori's sixteenth birthday, she gets an unexpected present: a fianc&eacute. Her grandfather, the recently-deceased patriarch of the family, gave her hand in marriage to the tall, dark, and silent Hakuya Mitsumine, a boy her own age who hails from high up in the rural mountains. He and his sister, the pint-sized Mashiro (who claims to be a high schooler despite all evidence to the contrary) move into the Yonomori house alongside Kobeni, her working single mother Akane, and her sister Benio, who has [[TheAce no flaws whatsoever]] except for her overzealous [[ComedicLolicon sister complex]]. Kobeni isn't exactly thrilled with this new development, but her mother convinces her to try it out and decide if she wants to go through with it. As the Yonomoris and the Mitsumines begin to share a home, Kobeni dreams of a long-ago accident that left her scarred and stricken with amnesia, and she begins to suspect her connection with Hakuya runs deeper than humanly possible.

Updated description for clarity and to remove inaccurate and/or unnecessary information, and to remove spoiler tags for the Mid Season Twist. Not only were they inconsistently applied across the page, but the twist occurred in chapter 23 of a manga which is now at over 150 chapters, so it's time for the spoiler training wheels to come off. Also, some of these spoiler tags were just bafflingly oversensitive. Matching handkerchiefs? Seriously?

Kobeni has just turned 16 years old, and gets more than she bargained for on her birthday when her mom Akane introduces her to Hakuya and Mashiro, her new fiancé—and his younger sister. Now all of a sudden she now has to deal with living together with them, apart from having to deal with her own overprotective sister Benio. Apparently Kobeni and Hakuya met as kids, though Kobeni can’t seem to remember anything because she suffered an accident shortly after. Their engagement was mandated by her grandfather, though Kobeni is unsure how to feel about all this. For now, it seems she’s just going to go with the flow until things smooth over.

''Engaged to the Unidentified'' (a.k.a Mikakunin de Shinkōkei or Mikakunin de Shinkoukei (未確認で進行形)) is a manga by Cherry-Ai, and serialized in Ichijinsha's ''Manga 4-Koma Palette'' magazine. It was originally a {{Yonkoma}}, but over time it evolved into a more typical manga layout.[[note]] ''Although many pages still do have four panels, they're wide enough to take up the whole page and are irregularly spaced and often broken, rather than the strict two columns of four panels that typifies modern Yonkoma.'' [[/note]] Its serialization began April 22, 2009, and is still ongoing as of November 2019. The first tankōban volume was released July 22, 2010, and is likewise ongoing with ten volumes as of July 2019.

An adaptation aired during the Winter2014Anime season; executed by Doga Kobo, it ran from January 8th, 2014 to March 26th of the same year in 12 episodes. Two [=OVA=]s were produced for the series: the first one, included in the first Blu-Ray volume as an extra, tells of the Yonomori and Mitsumine siblings' (with Mayura tagging along) trip to the UMA village for some rest and relaxation at some hot springs after Hakuya wins the grand prize at a shopping district draw; the second one, packaged with volume 5 of the manga, gives a glimpse of Benio and Kobeni's childhood, while its second half gives a glimpse at Mashiro and Hakuya's life at their mountain village prior to moving to the city... And some ''surprising'' implications about the origins of the Yonomori family itself. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime, and it can be [[http://www.crunchyroll.com/engaged-to-the-unidentified viewed here]] for viewers in the US and Canada.

* AdaptationExpansion: In the manga, Mashiro doesn't become obsessed with aliens and [=UMAs=] until after Kobeni learns the truth about her. In the anime, it's introduced almost at the start and also adds a subplot about Mashiro collecting [=UMA=] toys, which Mayura's family manufactures.

[[spoiler: In 125+ chapters, the one and only time a character has used their powers "on-screen", as it were, is the toddler Ui accidentally turning into a cat for a single panel while she's napping.]]

* TheFlatwoodsMonster: In Episode 2, Mashiro watches a sensationalist documentary about aliens, which covers the case of the Flatwoods Monster and implies a connection between them and {{Martians}}. Mashiro, who is afraid of UMA but up until then didn't know about aliens, is horrified to learn that "the threat" is everywhere and imagines herself surrounded by Flatwoods Monsters.
