** While most of these changes don't really get in the way of the narrative, there is one that becomes a bit of an AdaptationInducedPlotHole. Namely, when Dai and Popp get reunited with Maam in the Lomos Martial Arts Tournament, Popp initally doubts that the person they've met is the real Maam due to a recent encounter in which . To be sure, Popp touches Maam's breast, after wich Maam gives him one hell of a slap in the face, which in turn convinces Popp that she is the real Maam, as only her "could give a slap like that". This is immediately followed by Chiu appearing to beat the crap out of him, and from that moment on, Chiu mistrusts Popp, considering him a pervert. In the 2020 adaptation, instead of slightly molesting her, Popp just looks closely into Maam's eyes, saying that "her eyes would have a different glow from Zaboera's". However, the rest is kept exactly the same, rendering both Maam, and specially Chiu's reactions, as a DisproportionateRetribution.

* Bowdlerise: Due to the 2020 anime being broadcast on TV TokyoA network known for their notoriously strict broadcast standards post-1997, this results in the downplaying of or outright removal of most of the manga's dirty jokes including even Popp telling Dai about "Puff-Puff" even though the original scene already cuts off as he does so. Flazzard isn't seen repeatedly flipping allies and enemies alike off and neither does Leona get drunk during the party for his defeat. One variation is a scene of Popp exploding half of a dragon's head removing the gore involved by having its entire head explode into tiny shreds instead.

Spelled as Velzar officially.

** Baran gets no recognition for his defeat of Velther and it's implied that his heroics are overshadowed by Avan's defeat of Hadlar. The reason being that while Hadlar is weaker, he was the more immediate threat; he was already conquering parts of the surface. Velther was stopped before he could mount an invasion.

* IconicLogo: The Dragon Crest, both in and out of universe. InUniverse it's the glowing symbol that appears on the forehead of a Dragon Knight when they activate their powers, and it's prominently depicted in some structures and artworks related to them. Out of universe, not only is it part of the official logo of both the manga and both anime adaptations, it's pretty much the most recognizable piece of iconography in all of Dai No Daibouken as a whole, which helps to differentiate it from the rest of the Franchise/DragonQuest franchise.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai (Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken) is a classic shonen manga (and later anime) spin-off from the wildly popular VideoGame/DragonQuest RPG series. Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai (Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken) is a classic shonen manga (and later anime) spin-off from the wildly popular VideoGame/DragonQuest RPG series, written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Koji Inada (both of whom later went on to create Manga/BeetTheVandelBuster) that originally ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1989 to 1996. Set in an original world loosely inspired by the legendary VideoGame/DragonQuestIII, Dai would prove an enormous success in its own right, becoming possibly the second-most influential installment of the DQ franchise after III itself. This would lead many of the motifs and abilities it invented to be adopted into later DQ games (most famously this is the origin of the Hero class's iconic FinishingMove Gigaslash[=/=]Gigabreak), as well as into Japanese fantasy media as a whole - works as disparate as Manga/Naruto and VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime owe more than a little influence to Dai.

But in the process he learns that Hadlar now serves the mysterious SorcerousOverlord Vearn, a Dark King even mightier than himself.

After the battle, Dai and Popp decide to defeat the Dark Lord in Avan's stead, setting off on a journey that will take them throughout the entire world. Along the way they meet new allies and former Disciples of Avan such as Maam, a healer who fights with a magic gun. Together they'll have to face the six legions of the Dark King's army, each led by a powerful general, while unravelling the secrets of Dai's strange power.

This symbol (which Dai can't fully control) bestows Dai with an incredible power, which allows him to use even the most powerful spells and sword techniques that he's otherwise incapable of. Thanks to this power, he manages to chase the Dark Lord away.

After the battle, he and Popp decide to fight the Dark Lord, to rid the world of evil once again. Thus they start a journey that would take him throughout the entire world. In the process, they meet new allies along the way, such as Maam, a young girl who was also Avan's pupil in the past. Together, they'll have to face the Dark Lord's army, including its 6 legions of monsters, each one led by a powerful general.
