He still has his mother, so he's not a Self Made Orphan.

* MyBelovedSmother : A quite weird case. [[spoiler:Conan and the detective kids actually find a "haunted house" where a mother keeps her son locked in the basement to keep him from being incarcerated as [[SelfMadeOrphan his father's murderer]] until the end of the statute of limitations, even when the guy is guilty and ''does'' want to go to jail, to atone for his crime. Eventually, Conan helps the culprit convince her mother to let him go and turn himself in.]]

* ImplausibleSynchrony: {{Exaggerated}} and {{invoked}}. One arc takes place in a house with hundreds of clocks, all of which show the exact same time. The owner of the house keeps a team of clock repairmen on call 24/7 to ensure that this is the case. One of her previous employees died because she made the man climb the outside of the clock tower to fix the clock there in the rain, causing him to fall. [[spoiler:This is why she gets murdered.]]

** Conan's wonderful toys tend to have a ''lot'' more prominence in the anime, ''especially'' the movies (in the manga, the only ones he uses regularly are the watch and the bow-tie). The turbo-powered skateboard that appears in just about every movie and quite a few of the anime-only {{Filler}} episodes? It appeared in a grand total of ''two'' storylines in the manga, which were more than ''six hundred chapters'' apart (it was actually smashed to bits at the end of its debut arc, and for a long time it was implied that Dr. Agasa didn't bother fixing it).

* MadnessMantra: A very heartbreaking one at the end of the "Spider Mansion": [[spoiler: After the culprit discovered the real reason his fiance committed suicide was because she misinterpreted his last word, "shine", for her as "shi-ne: die", he's left broken. As he's taken away, he keeps saying why couldn't they speak the same language over and over again, like a broken puppet.]]

** On several occasions, Conan wrote off suspects merely because "men are stronger than women". While this does have some basis to it, it makes the "Moonlight Sonata" case particularly jarring because [[spoiler: it's revealed the killer is a man disguised as a woman - and being a man doesn't change his build at all.]]
