* DubNameChange: Nearly every character except Sakura suffered from it in both the English and French dubs. It was that kind of era.

to:

* DubInducedPlothole:
** The ''Cardcaptors'' English dub redid a ''lot'' of things about the original, so unsurprisingly some plotholes ensued:
*** Due to [[AnachronicOrder episode shuffling]], the dub has Kero advising Sakura to use Windy, Fly, and Shadow to capture the Watery card because they're her oldest cards. In the actual anime, those are the only cards she had at the time. Even worse, an episode that aired beforehand in that run showed Sakura as already possessing Watery.

This is intended to refer to her brother Touya, [[MeaningfulName whose name meant "peach blossom"]], but his DubNameChange to Tori meant Sakura somehow deduces this from a mere screenshot of Tori standing among cherry blossoms.
** The official English release of the manga has Syaoran calling Sakura by her first name in one of their exchanges in Chapter 17, even though the Japanese keeps the HeyYou approach. This becomes inconsistent when Syaoran dramatically calls Sakura by her name for what's supposed to be the first time in Chapter 23, which makes Sakura really happy and prompts her to call him by his first name; in the English release the two keep the same conversation, making Sakura's "You've never called me by my first name before!" hilariously wrong.
* DubNameChange: Nearly every character except Sakura suffered suffer from it name changes in both the English and French dubs. It dubs, as it was that kind of era.very popular to do back when they aired.

[[folder: Clear Card]]
!!The Clear Card Arc provides examples of:
* ArtEvolution: This being the 20th anniversary series, it makes sense that the art has changed. The fanbase appears to be split on whether the new style is better or not.
* CallBack: Episode 9 has Sakura and Syaoran going on a date to the aquarium where Watery was captured. The Spiral card that shows up this time is defeated in a similar way -- instead of luring it to the freezer, Syaoran uses an ice spell to freeze it.
** Episode 16 has Sakura defeating Struggle with martial arts together with Meiling, which was how Syaoran earned the Twin card.
* ContinuitySnarl: ''Clear Card'' seemingly retcons the events of ''The Sealed Card''. For example, Akiho moves into Eriol's old mansion, whereas in ''The Sealed Card'', it was destroyed and replaced by a theme park. [[spoiler:It turns out reality was manipulated, making it reappear and erasing everyone's memories in the process]]. The characters, at least, remember the school play they took part in.
* DemotedToExtra: Kerberos, Syaoran, and Yue don't have as much relevance to the plot as before. Kerberos is just sort of there for the occasional joke without anything else to do because he can't be written out, Yue was given an "he's very busy" excuse, and Syaoran at least has the fact he's the love interest going for him and the hints that he's involved in what's going on somehow, but he still doesn't get to do much of anything.
* {{Flanderization}}: True, Tomoyo was already obsessed with filming Sakura in the original anime, but in the new one? She gets downright ''creepy'' about it, to the point of scaring Kero to death when he fails to capture Sakura in her place.
* MakingASplash: The Aqua card manifests as a giant bird made of water, like some sort of inverted Phoenix.
* MythologyGag:
** In the first episode, the uniform for Rika's new school resembles that of Fuu Hououji's uniform from ''Manga/MagicKnightRayearth''.
** Chiharu having a different memory of Yamazaki's role during the school play in the original series is a nod to how his role in the play is different in the anime and manga versions. In the manga (which everyone else remembers), he had a big role as the witch. Meanwhile, in the anime (which Chiharu remembers), he played the queen while Meiling played the witch.
** In the second episode, Touya makes okonomiyaki like the version of him from the Hanshin Republic did in ''Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle''
** In the third episode, Touya and Yukito are shown working at the bakery Tirol from {{Manga/Chobits}} and {{Manga/Kobato}}.
* PutOnABus: Rika goes into a different middle school.
* SealedRoomInTheMiddleOfNowhere: Sakura's room turns into one of these as a result of the Siege card in the second episode. The room seemly has no way out, and pushing on the walls only causes it to stretch. It soon begins to actively try to kill them, but they find a way to escape quickly when they realize it's made of rubber and so can be popped with a sharp object like you can a balloon.
* SettingUpdate: The time period the show takes place in has been quietly modernized to TheNewTens. Episode 1 shows that the Sakura's calendar is set in 2018. The characters now are using smartphones, and a [=PS4=] replaces the Super Nintendo-like gaming console Kero was shown playing in the original show.
* SeriesContinuityError: In episode 18, when Touya is talking with Yue, he says he asked Yukito what Yue's name is because it felt weird not knowing his name all this time. Yue clearly told Touya his name when they met in the first series.
* StrictlyFormula: The initial episodes start this way. Sakura goes on through her social life, Touya starts bullying her as an excuse for feeling something's wrong about her, she and Syaoran share a romantic moment, Sakura has a premonition, she sees something weird happening nobody else even notices, she captures the card, the other magical characters can't feel the presence of any magic, they try to contact Eriol, but he refuses to answer, and Tomoyo tries to film Sakura, but fails.
* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish: Syaoran manages to communicate with two English-speaking tourists in episode 9 rather well. In the dub, it's changed to French.
* TruerToTheText:
** The prologue episode adapts the manga's finale.
** The Funimation dub is also far more faithful to the series' themes.
* TutuFancy: It's probably for the best that Sakura only wore that swan costume in the opening sequence, considering all the frills that could trip her up on the field (so to speak).
