* AnAesop: The series goes for numerous Aesops about education, personal attention, and effort. In particular, the show takes the stance against institutionalized corruption, seen in both academia and government, and how they create systems that mostly do harm to those that such systems should be in place to help and serve.

* CoolGuns: Every gun shown in the series is real, and rendered with exquisite attention to detail. The guns the students use are said to be airgun versions of the genuine articles, but looking at them, you can't tell the difference.
** The student's standard armaments are the M1911 pistol and the M4 MOE carbine. Rarely, they can also be seen using other guns such as [=G36C=] carbines, SPAS 12 shotguns and [=MP5K=] submachine guns.
** Red Eye's rifle is an Accuracy International Arctic Warfare Suppressed. The AWS is a variant of the Arctic Warfare series visually distinguished by its lack of a muzzle break, and meant to fire subsonic ammunition. This fits Karasuma's description of the anti-sensei rifle bullets. They cannot be fired at supersonic velocities.
** Gastro's weapon of choice is the S&W Model 60 revolver. [[spoiler:The guns Chiba and Hayami have when fighting him are of the same type]]. Notably, the M60 has a 5-round cylinder, and Gastro is shown [[ShownTheirWork firing the correct number of shots before having to reload]].

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: It took a while for the official readings for everyone's names to come out.
** Meg Kataoka's first name used to be spelled "Megu" pretty often, as seen in translations and the anime's second opening theme.
** Korosensei, Koro Sensei, or Koro-Sensei? Most official translations use "Koro Sensei", but opinions still differ.

* SexilyModest: When Bitch-Sensei undergoes a GoodCostumeSwitch, swapping out of short-skirt and cleavage-baring top for a [[SweaterGirl modest sweater]] and ProperTightsWithASkirt. The male students actually find her far more attractive afterwards for doing so.

* StockholmSyndrome:
** What Takaoka's "9 sticks to 1 carrot" training strategy invokes. He gives his students nice meals and gives off a friendly, fatherly first impression, but then he will harshly and physically punish them if they object to his teaching methods.
** [[spoiler:Once Koro-sensei's existence is revealed to the public, Class 3-E's attempts to defend him are brushed off by the mainstream media as this.]]

* LongTitle: The anime Takebayashi recommends to Koro-sensei is "Ore No Imouto Ga Totsuzen Hiroshima-Fan Ni Natta No Wa Kareshi No Eikyou Ni Chigai Nai Ken Ni Tsuite" ("Regarding The Incident Of How There's No Doubt That My Little Sister Became A Hiroshima Fan Due To Her Boyfriend's Influence"), clearly poking fun of light novels of the mid-2010s (such as ''Literature/{{Oreimo}}'') to use overly long titles with lots of kanji.

* TeamMercyVsTeamMuder: After the revelation of what Korosensei truly is, the students of Class 3-E divide into two parties. The party led by Nagisa believes that they should find a solution to prevent Koro from self-destructing so he can live. Karma's team believes that they should continue trying to kill Koro, citing how they've always known him as a target to be killed, and that they've come so far in their goals and shouldn't give up halfway.

* ShowWithinAShow: The ''Sonic Ninja'' movies. Takebayashi is also mentioned to like an anime called ''[[LightNovel/{{Oreimo}} The Reason My Sister Became a Hiroshima Fan]] [[LampshadeHanging Must Be Because of the Influence of Her Boyfriend]]'' which had an actual theme song composed for it in the anime. In "Korotan D," there's a film adaptation of a novel called ''Gold City.''

* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish:
** Instances of written English in the manga and the anime are all well written and grammatically correct.
** In an interesting version of playing the trope straight by subverting it, during the first semester English finals, the English in one question is not grammatically correct, nor is it supposed be as it's really a quote from ''Literature/TheCatcherInTheRye'' which does not use proper English. The student who translated it literally was marked down, while the one who recognized it as a quote and wrote it as it would be in the English version of the novel such got the points.
** Zig-zagged in the anime in terms of spoken English; some, like Irina's and the students', aren't bad, if Engrishy, while others, like Karasuma's and Lovro's are difficult to understand without subtitles.

* GenderNeutralPronoun:

** In a similar vein, [[spoiler:the brief discussion over Class E's previous teacher, Yukimura-sensei, was translated using male pronouns although the original uses gender neutral pronouns. Yukimura-sensei is eventually revealed to be a woman.]]

** When Takebayashi joins Class A, his fellow students take note of his shocked face at the teacher's math lesson. They assume (much like the reader might) that he is overwhelmed by how fast and intense the trigonometry lecture is, but his internal monologue reveals that he's actually astonished at how incompetent the teacher is compared to Koro-sensei, noting that Class E already covered trigonometry last semester.

* GenderedOutfit: When the students get their new, militaristic, "PE uniforms" at the end of volume 11, the boys' outfit is ordinary baggy combat gear, while the girls' is a [[BareYourMidriff cropped jacket]] and Lara Croft-style shorts over a skintight [[SpyCatsuit spandex unitard]]. Justified since Irina designed the girls' outfit (and it turns out that her preferred design was incredibly {{Stripperiffic}}, but she and Karasuma compromised).

** Kaede Kayano hates [[BuxomIsBetter big boobs]] because she is insecure about [[ACupAngst her own size]], and will often get upset whenever big boobs are brought into her attention.

''Assassination Classroom'' was serialized in ''Weekly Magazine/ShonenJump'' from 2012 to 2016 for 187 chapters, which were compiled into 21 volumes (notably, it did not fall below 4th place in the ''Weekly Shonen Jump'' TOC rankings once over its entire duration). The manga is licensed in English by Creator/VIZMedia.

* ArtisticLicensePhysics: Koro-Sensei moving around at several times the speed of sound should cause immense winds that would swiftly destroy the classroom and everything in it, but usually it only makes the students' hair flutter.

* ArmorPiercingSlap: Delivered the Koro-Sensei way after [[spoiler:the students get too confident in themselves, decide to disobey Karasuma's orders by trying out their new free-running skills in a civilian area, and end up injuring a bystander in the process.]]

* MasculineFeminineAndrogyneTrio: The main student trio is made up of the masculine Karma, the feminine Kaeda, and the androginous Nagisa.

* BaitAndSwitch: In Episode 18, during a video made to distract Koro-Sensei out of embarrassment, it's said that he takes rigorous advantage of free tissue samples, and considering the [[LoveableSexManic kinda guy he is]], one probably wouldn't expect him to fry them... for whatever reason.
