* ShoutOut: Oh-so-many, particularly from different manga and some anime, without even bothering to censor the titles. ''Some'' character names do get censored by a syllable though.
** [[Series/KamenRider Shocker]][[note]]But not [[Series/KamenRiderSkyrider Neo-Shocker]], [[Series/KamenRiderDecade Dai-Shocker nor Super Shocker]] because FirstInstallmentWins.[[/note]] is brought up now and then as a metaphoric representation of evil. Also [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/akumetsu/v12/c102/6.html a few ''SuperSentai'' villain groups]].
*** [[spoiler:The Perfect One]]'s story of usurping the evil which created him is pretty similar to ''Series/KamenRider'' as well. Even Shou [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/akumetsu/v13/c112/15.html lampshaded]] after the exposition.
** "[[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/akumetsu/v02/c016/17.html/ Rider has the powers of a grasshopper, 8 Man has the powers of speed and transformation, Doraemon has the tools of the future,...]]"
*** He references ''Series/KamenRider'', ''Series/{{Ultraman}}'', ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam'', ''Anime/EighthMan'', ''Anime/{{Doraemon}}'', ''Manga/SaintSeiya'', ''Manga/BlackJack'', ''Anime/{{Scryed}}'', ''Manga/AstroBoy'', ''Manga/ApocalypseZero'', ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'', and ''Series/SeiunKamenMachineman''
** [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/akumetsu/v02/c016/12.html There's only one truth!]] (Warning: Crazy page alert.)
** Then there's the Franchise/AceAttorney-style [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/akumetsu/v08/c062/22.html fingerpointing]]...
*** Shou's hair style and even his eyebrows (somewhat) closely resemble that of Phoenix's.
** [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/akumetsu/v02/c011/7.html Akumetsu in his flight suit]] is ''very'' reminding of [[Franchise/{{Batman}} a certain black-clad hero]].
*** That one is almost a double shout-out. When that same suit is in flight it becomes an almost perfect copy of a ''Griffon'' from Anime/{{Patlabor}}.
** "[[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/akumetsu/v07/c055/18.html I wanna know what happens to]] {{Toriko}}!"
** Enjoy your Sunday morning kids shows on... [[http://www.mangafox.com/manga/akumetsu/v07/c056/4.html TV]] [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Asahi Asame]]?
** When Akumetsu-ing [[spoiler:the man who approved the drug that his friend needed that was contaminated with Hepatitis C]], Shou dresses up as Manga/BlackJack.
** Apparently, [[spoiler:Jinguuji's syndicate]] is so secret that even [[Manga/TheKindaichiCaseFiles Kindaichi]], Manga/DetectiveConan and Franchise/SherlockHolmes can't find out!
** Shou might very well be a wrestling fan, because [[https://allfiction01.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/akumetsu-slam.png this]] DEFINITELY looks like the [[Wrestling/{{WWE}} Rock Bottom]]

* MagnificentBastard: Shou. [[spoiler: ALL of them!]] No matter what anyone does to try and stop him, all they manage to do is play right into his hands. Thanks to his use of [[TheTrickster clever tricks]], [[TheChessmaster careful planning]], [[BatmanGambit Batman-Gambitting]] and [[ManipulativeBastard amazing misdirection skills]], nobody can even touch him.
** The worst loss he ever takes in the story [[spoiler: required the combined efforts of politicians, {{Yakuza}} members, and several highly-trained soldiers.]] And even then, given all that happened, they all lost just as much as he did.

Published in Weekly Shonen Champion from 2002 to 2006, ''Akumetsu'' is a very violent series, but also boasts a realistic art-style. The story department, though, is a tad polarizing. The first plotline explores where and how "evil" can thrive in a modern society; in this case, the author chose politics and economy as its breeding grounds. The second one is about Akumetsu's plot to rid Japan of evil and the government's attempts to apprehend him and stop his terrorist acts. Those politically conscious might have a chance to pause and ponder on the facts the first plotline presents, while a casual reader will probably be interested in the second. Bottomlined, it has MultipleDemographicAppeal which may also appeal to some of the {{Shounen}} audiences.
