* The objective behind the execrable "OneMoreDay" arc of ''Comicbook/{{Spider-Man}}'', based on {{Joe Quesada}}'s deranged belief that no-one can relate to a married superhero (despite the fact that they'd been doing that for some, oh, ''twenty years or so'' by then). His intention to make Peter a "hip young single swinger" has, unfortunately, reduced him to an unemployed loser who mooches off his elderly aunt and shacks up with anything female and heralded the dawn of another DorkAge for ''Spider-Man''.

* Subverted with the Ciem book series adaptation in the works, based on the CiemWebcomicSeries. Candi starts out at the same age as her webcomic self (19 going on 20). But she's... shorter and [[AmbiguouslyBrown darker-toned]], and more Indian. Promotional art bases her design more on the Teen Sim group from TheSims2, and Teen Candi is used much more frequently this time than Young Adult Candi. The new one also aims to be HotterAndSexier; while remaining just-old-looking-enough to avoid Lolicon territory.

**YMMV on this one. When a hero dies he either gets brought back from the dead or replaced. Ted Kord isn't coming back. As writer Greg Rucka stated, "There was a breeze blowing through his brain, and he was incinerated." so they decided to bring in a younger more hispanic character use the scarab. This is quite different than Teen Tony or the OMD debacle where an existing character (the man inside the suit) is made younger to appeal to a younger audience.

When a work is revamped, relaunched, or reconceived with a young (or younger, at any rate) cast, despite the ages of the characters in the original source material. This happens because it is commonly believed that no one in the audience wants to watch "old people" (defined as anyone over the age of 40 or thereabouts). Often, this happens to supposedly allow CharacterDevelopment, because the older character has "nowhere to go" and thus making him young again "opens up story possibilities". YourMileageMayVary as to the truth of this opinion.

* ''PercyJacksonAndTheOlympians'' used the "older and hipper" inversion as well. The ''TheChosenOne'' lead is also twelve in the original book, with age progression that is intertwined with a prophecy that spans the entire series. They are teenagers in the film to allow for romantic entanglements.

** Sort of justified, since the zombies in the original are slow and shambling, which makes them easier to escape from. The remake has fast running zombies that pretty much require being at peak physical health to escape from. Not to mention several of the survivors are clearly 40+.

First of all: repair the edit, dont discuss it in the works page and hope that someone like me will come along and edit it for you. Second of all, Is the movie cast by younger and hipper characters? Yes, not just in real life but also in the story. The characters are just exiting the academy, as opposed to in The Original series where they\'re all experienced starfleet officers

** The Star Trek re-launch really doesn't count here. You can't really be accused of going 'younger and hipper' if the cast being replaced are actually elderly (Shatner is 80!) or even DEAD in some cases.
