It comes out that the deletion protocol was installed in the Weapon (without her knowledge) due to the fact that her predecessor [[spoiler: / AI template]] Cortana ended up [[VideoGame/Halo5 betraying the UNSC]]. During their dispute, Chief, who is still carrying a ''lot'' of emotional turmoil over Cortana due to reasons too complex to be fully expanded on in this entry, turns to the Weapon and says, "Cortana...!" and trails off, to which the Weapon, believing he is bringing Cortana up in the argument, interrupts him with "...is gone." However, the tone of Chief's voice and his posture when speaking indicates he wasn't bringing her up, he was ''addressing'' the Weapon as Cortana due to their spat reminding him rather painfully of his disagreements with Cortana, though the Weapon doesn't appear to notice this.
