* The Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse has had its ups and downs with this trope.
** The franchise was on shaky ground after the mixed reception of ''Film/ManOfSteel'' in 2013 together with the poor reception of both ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' and ''Film/{{Suicide Squad|2016}}'' in 2016, with a number of accusations of Warner Bros. and DC trying too hard to be DarkerAndEdgier at the expense of good storytelling. Then ''Film/{{Wonder Woman|2017}}'' proved to be a critical and commercial smash, offering a serious but still uplifting ComingOfAgeStory for the titular heroine, breathing new life and interest into DC's films. Following the ''Film/{{Justice League|2017}}'' hiccup, the largely positive reception of both ''Film/{{Aquaman|2018}}'' and ''[[Film/Shazam2019 SHAZAM!]]'' further improved this.
** Unfortunately this was short lived; despite the positive reception of ''Film/{{Birds of Prey|2020}}'' and ''Film/TheSuicideSquad'' both were box office disappointments, and ''Film/WonderWoman1984'' was widely considered an inferior follow-up to ''Wonder Woman'' not helped by also disappointing financially. A string of subsequent films with middling receptions caused Warner Bros. to reboot the DC film universe with James Gunn at the helm; only time will tell if the new direction can win the crowds back once more.

With all due respect, writing a lengthy example (and, in the process, violating Example Indentation) just to say that they ultimately failed to win back the crowd after back-and-forth issues and the company was sold off doesn't make it a proper example of this trope (well, audience reaction)

* ''Wrestling/{{WCW}}'' went through several iterations in its long history. It enjoyed a relatively stable existence for decades as Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, a dedicated regional promotion. In the early 80s, it enjoyed critical success but paired with financial difficulties in the face of competing with the rapidly expanding [=WWF=]. As ratings and ticket sales dwindled as expensive expansion plans failed to pan out, the promotion was sold to Ted Turner and fully rebranded as World Championship Wrestling. For the next few years, the promotion played second fiddle to [=WWF=], featuring many of the cartoonish superhero characters that [=WWF=] had made popular but never quite as popular, as the promotion garnered decent ratings but was dependant on the Turner network to support it as a loss leader. The first major resurgence came with the return of Wrestling/RicFlair in 1993 and later Wrestling/HulkHogan in 1994. This move, the biggest free agent signing in the last decade, singlehandedly made the wrestling audience see [=WCW=] with new eyes as a legitimate alternative rather than a second-rate promotion. Several other [=WWF=] stars followed and many feuds and angles were built around them, with fans willing to look at familiar characters in new situations, and ticket and merchandise sales trended upwards for the first time in several years.
** Another lull hit in the mid 90s, as interest in wrestling plummeted nationwide with creativity hitting its nadir. Fans were already tired of seeing wrestlers they'd already seen for years and shows became stale with no forward momentum. This trend began to shift with the debut of the Monday Nitro program, which began showcasing talented Mexican and Japanese wrestlers that most American viewers had never seen. The shift in momentum was capstoned with [[Wrestling/ScottHall two]] [[Wrestling/KevinNash signings]], presented to the audience in one of the most truly uniquely creative ways ever seen, as conquering invaders and complete outsiders. This culminated in late 1996, with the most famous FaceHeelTurn in all of wrestling history, forming a [[Wrestling/NewWorldOrder new faction]] that would send [=WCW=] to stratospheric heights in the following years.
** After years of massive success, [=WCW's=] fortunes plummeted beginning in early '99 as the creative momentum generated by the [=nWo=] finally burned out and there were no more forward thinking plans. [=WWF=] had had its own resurgence with its "Attitude Era" branding and [=WCW=] had no answer on how to move itself forward. Fans tuned out in droves, leaving crowds of hundreds in venues that had held tens of thousands just months before. After desperate throwing of things at the wall to see what stuck, in late 2000, the frenzied hot potatoing of championships ceased and they began building around a much reduced roster, building Wrestling/ScottSteiner as a top singles star after over a decade as a tag team specialist, and showing a renewed interest in presenting well-wrestled matches rather than just spectacle. Interest was piqued in the new direction, but it was too little too late, and the company was sold off in mid 2001.

TheReveal by Hobgoblin creator Roger Stern that the man who had been killed off was NOT, in fact, the real Hobgoblin, but rather [[ActuallyADoombot his brainwashed stand-in]], allowed the final confrontation between him and Spidey that the fans were initially denied.
** The title hit this again in the mid-'00s after the disaster of his unmasking in ''ComicBook/CivilWar2006'' and the universally-reviled ''ComicBook/OneMoreDay'' storyline as new writers were brought in who kept trying to replace Spidey's supporting cast and rogues gallery by creating their own set of third-string villains and characters. It hit its own nadir when they had the Lizard cross the MoralEventHorizon and later undid the Sacred Cow that was ''Kraven's Last Hunt''. Enter Dan Slott, who took over the title as the sole writer and generally made the series ''enjoyable'' again, though the run has not been without its detractors, and his ''ComicBook/SuperiorSpiderMan'' story was fairly controversial, though it enjoyed the best sales for the series in quite some time.
*** After several years of being consigned to just the newspaper comic strip, Peter and MJ's marriage was brought back to the forefront for the summer of 2015 during the ''Secret Wars'' event, with Dan Slott penning a five-issue story called ''Renew Your Vows'', focusing on an alternate version of Peter and MJ raising a young daughter called Annie and taking on a dictator called The Regent. The series proved very popular and a year later it was given its own ongoing title where the Parker family all fight crime together as a superhero unit, not unlike ''WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles''.
*** Following the events of ''Superior Spider-Man'', Black Cat underwent a shock heel turn, turning violent against Spider-Man, almost killing Aunt May, and set her sights on becoming a ruthless crime Queenpin. Fans of Felicia were understandably livid at this. Writer Robbie Thompson attempted to give Felicia a sympathetic motivation for her turn in the pages of ''Silk'' and developed a frenemy relationship between her and Cindy Moon, but that only lasted until Felicia found out Cindy was spying on her. Finally, after three years of dissatisfied fans crying foul, Felicia was quickly set on the path to redemption in both ''Venom Inc'' and the pages of ''Defenders'', where she lost her crime empire and was given a motivational speech (by Venom, the creature that once shattered her nose) to be a force for good again.

* ''Series/{{Scrubs}}'' had [[JumpingTheShark jumped the shark]] roughly since Season 6, with continuing {{Flanderization}} of the protagonist's girliness, and plot-lines that many people didn't like (such the relationships with Kim and Keith). When the show switched from NBC to ABC for Season 8, however, the show successfully managed to grow its beard back (doubling since JD ''literally'' grew a beard). Not only did JD dial down his girliness and regain some of his early charms, but it also featured fresh plotlines and episodes that were both hilarious and emotionally stimulating, as well as a spectacular series finale.

Compared to the previous few seasons, it features [[ForgotFlandersCouldDoThat more nuanced and emotionally stimulating, complex characterizations]] of most of the main cast and a far more deft balance of [[{{Bathos}} drama and humor]], it moves most of the main characters forward in interesting ways (particularly concerning J.D. stepping into a mentor role, and Dr. Cox [[PassingTheTorch becoming the new Chief of Medicine]]), and it ultimately builds up to a universally loved {{Tearjerker}} of a SeriesFinale. While the ninth season, which features an entirely new main cast (and was originally intended to be SpinOff called ''Scrubs: Med School'') isn't nearly as well as a spectacular series finale.well-regarded, most fans [[FanonDiscontinuity prefer to pretend that one just doesn't exist]].

* ''VideoGame/DiabloIV'' proved to be a massive second wind for not just the ''VideoGame/{{Diablo}}'' series, but Creator/BlizzardEntertainment as a whole. As a franchise, ''Diablo'' had gone through a rough patch in the prior decade with the [[ContestedSequel polarizing]] ''VideoGame/DiabloIII'' and [[OvershadowedByControversy the nuclear firestorm of controversy]] that was ''Diablo Immortal'' (a game [[TaintedByThePreview that was blasted on sight on announcement]] due to being revealed as a mobile title rather than a fully-fledged ''Diablo IV'', and garnered just as much negative publicity when it was released in 2022 for [[BribingYourWayToVictory its egregious pay-to-win progression mechanics]]), to say nothing of the equally public scandals surrounding Creator/ActivisionBlizzard that took the gaming world by storm in the late 2010's and early 20's. Even when ''IV'' was properly announced in 2019, many were concerned that it was going to suffer as a result of its tumultuous circumstances. Favor slowly began to warm back up as more of the game was being revealed and betas began launching, with excitement over its new lore developments and [[RevisitingTheRoots return to the series' darker fantasy roots]], though still marred with trepidation due to its shift to live-service gameplay (especially in light of ''Immortal''). At long last, the game was finally released in 2023, and it received glowing reviews from critics and a warm reception among general audiences, with many praising it as a return to form for Blizzard in terms of gameplay and storytelling that had been sorely missed from the studio. Combined with having a generally much smoother launch than ''III'' or Blizzard's other titles of the time, ''Diablo IV'' ended up becoming the company's ''fastest-selling game in their history'', breaking $666 million within the first week.

His acting career, regardless, was on life support for many years afterwards before returning as Anakin, now Darth Vader, in the Creator/DisneyPlus miniseries ''Series/ObiWanKenobi''. ** After ''VideoGame/StreetFighterV'' proved to be [[ContestedSequel a highly contentious title]] due to several divisive approaches to game mechanics, presentation, and content rollout, Capcom had their work cut out in regaining the confidence of its fanbase with ''[=SF6=]''. Astonishingly, they largely managed to pull it off -- the new art style received praise on sight, the updates to gameplay and the many new features it (re-)introduces to combat have been well-received, as well as having much new and exciting high-scope content right out of the gate, including the World Tour mode. The game sold over a million copies within its first week, and has gained near-unanimous praise from critics and players alike as an excellent entry in the series.
