Hot pants, mini shorts, booty shorts, or [[Series/TheDukesOfHazzard daisy dukes]]? Whatever you call them, it can be a great way to ShowSomeLeg without having to worry about a PantyShot. This trope became popular in RealLife around [[TheFifties the mid-1950s]], and even more so during TheSeventies with the introduction of hot pants, and even though it has never been at the height of fashion, it's never really gone away, either. Though it's mostly a female trope, it was by no means uncommon with males in certain past decades (particularly athletic shorts in TheSeventies), and more recently we're seeing more and more male characters slipping in, after major {{aver|tedTrope}}sion or even {{inver|tedTrope}}sion from most of TheNineties through most of TheNewTens.

Sometimes combined with ZettaiRyouiki, ShesGotLegs, and/or ModestyShorts.

Not to be confused with "[[Music/TaylorSwift she wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts]]".

!!Examples:

[[folder:Advertising]]
* Nair depilatory famously used the song (see Music below) as part of an ad campaign that ran from the late 1970s well into the 1980s.
* Masculine example PlayedForLaughs: the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSFCvG6curE L&P ''Stubbies'' advert]] shown in New Zealand. Also pokes fun at the TheSeventies.
** ''[[http://www.stubbies.com.au Stubbies]]'' are a brand of men's shorts popular in Australia and New Zealand in the 1970s, and was a common part of schoolboys' uniforms.
* The guy in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldxNZO0YghQ this uber-Australian ad for BlueBet]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* Both Shiro and Anri from ''Manga/{{Adekan}}'' occasionally do this. As in, daisy duke shorts on a dude. Anri usually wears long pants, but the legs of them appear to be detachable which make them kind of creepy chaps-shorts.
* Alois Trancy from the second season of the ''Manga/BlackButler'' anime frequently wears these, to the point that his "Booty Shorts" have pretty much reached memetic status.
* Revy from ''Manga/BlackLagoon.'' Permanently unbuttoned.
* Mizuho Asano from ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'' is commonly seen in hot pink short-shorts.
* Kanzaki Kaori of ''LightNovel/ACertainMagicalIndex'' is an unusual example: she wears a pair of jeans... [[FashionableAsymmetry with one leg cut off.]] [[ImpossiblyCoolClothes Goes really well with]] [[{{Stripperiffic}} her tied-up white T-shirt.]].
* Kallen from ''Anime/CodeGeass''.
* Faye Valentine's trademark yellow outfit in ''Anime/CowboyBebop'' probably counts.
* Battle Lovers Scarlet and Vesta of ''Anime/CuteHighEarthDefenseClubLove'', who are guys. To indicate how short they are, Scarlet's ones narrowly miss mid-thigh and he's the shortest of the five Battle Lovers.
* ''Manga/DeadlineSummoner'' has Mamoru Onodera's Werewolf who favours this, alongside a [[HellBentForLeather leather jacket,]] [[{{Stripperific}} skimpy top,]] and [[CollaredByFashion a collar,]] with plenty of spikes to go around.
* ''Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool'': Like in [[Franchise/{{Danganronpa}} previous installments]], Aoi Asahina wears shorts as opposed to almost every female character in the franchise. The only other girl who wears shorts is Ruruka Andou. However, unlike Andou, Asahina actually wears a uniform...which she combines with shorts. Yes, she combines a suit with shorts, tights and sneakers. Initially, anyway. She later falls into the ShortTank category not long after the beginning of the series.
* ''Manga/DragonBall'':
** Several outfits of Bulma have this. The first time is when, dealing with Oolong in Aru Village, Bulma is seen with a pair of brown short shorts. In the Red Ribbon arc, Bulma wore a red shirt that leaves her shoulders exposed and orange shorts. At the begin of ''Dragon Ball Z'' she wears white shorts.
** Launch wears yellow shorts in the first appearance.
** Videl wears tight spandex shorts.
* Lucy and Lisanna from ''Manga/FairyTail'' both like this type of clothing. It almost seems like they take turns in wearing them - Lisanna usually wears shorts when Lucy is wearing a skirt, and Lucy usually wears shorts in the arcs [[OutOfFocus that Lisanna doesn't take part in]].
* Envy of ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist''. [[AmbiguousGender Hard to place as a male or female example]].
* Part of LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya's UnlimitedWardrobe. She wears cuffed jean shorts when the story wants to remind you she's the [[TomboyAndGirlyGirl Tomboy to Mikuru's Girly Girl]].
* The twelve-year-old boy Gon from ''Manga/HunterXHunter'' wears a pair of bright green short shorts as part of his LimitedWardrobe--a fact not discussed in the show/manga but notorious in the fandom. Killua wears them a lot, too.
** Even shorter are [[http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130819234707/hunterxhunter/images/f/f5/Cheetu_anime.png Cheetu's]] inexplicable short shorts.
* The one-legged jeans are also part of Kisara Nanjou's style of choice in ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple''.
* ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'':
** ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikers'' introduced this trope to the franchise with Subaru and her Barrier Jacket, which consists of a tank top, coat, cape, and jean shorts combo.
** ''Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce'' added two more short shorts-wearing females to the line up: [[GatlingGood Arnage]] [[MacrossMissileMassacre Huckebein]] and [[ThrowDownTheBomblet Isis]].
** Fuka's wears daisy dukes as part of her casual outfit in ''Anime/VividStrike''
* Heero Yuy from ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing''. Being designed after a female model, it doesn't do much for his already diminishing masculinity. He switches to white full-length pants for the OAV sequel, however.
* In ''Manga/MonsterMusume'', since [[HarpingOnAboutHarpies Papi]]'s talons makes her unable to wear pants, she usually sports shorts.
* When Takeo of ''Manga/MyLoveStory'' needs money, he works part-time at a cafe called Machos, where the waiters are big, muscular men in tank tops and short pants.
* Misato Katsuragi from ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' wears these when at home.
* Hajime of ''Manga/NewGame'' wears short pants nearly exclusively.
* By the series Standards, Hana-chan from ''Anime/OjamajoDoremi'' wears these. With cute little hearts on each side.
* Ururu in ''Anime/OkusamaWaMahouShoujo'' tends to wear short shorts, as opposed to dresses like her friends.
* ''Manga/OnePiece'':
** Nami in the 10th movie, ''Anime/OnePieceFilmStrongWorld'', as well as in the Dressrosa Arc, wears super-short jean shorts.
** Jewelry Bonney is fond of wearing short shorts too.
** During a web contest for jeans with ''Manga/OnePiece'' characters, [[http://i.imgur.com/rjuocw9.jpg Rebecca]] was the only female with shorts.
* ''Anime/OsomatsuSan'': Karamatsu is a RareMaleExample; one of his outfits is a tank top with a pair of short jean shorts that really [[ShesGotLegs emphasize his legs]].
* ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'': Misty's best-known outfit includes very short jean-shorts. And in later generations, yellow shorts of the same length. Hell, if she's not wearing either outfit in any episode, chances are her regular outfit in said episode will incorporate this, too, as seen in "Luvdisc Is a Many Splendored Thing", in which she pairs a yellow top with darker blue shorts.
* Some of the Cures have worn this from time to time in the ''Anime/PrettyCure'' franchise. For example:
** Both Nozomi and Rin, from ''Anime/YesPrettyCure5'', have worn this for the Pretty Cure All Stars Suite Flower Card Collection, with Nozomi wearing jean shorts on two cards on which she's featured.
** Love Momozono's casualwear in ''Anime/FreshPrettyCure'' incorporates a pink jacket and denim shorts.
** Worn by Nao Midorikawa in ''Anime/SmilePrettyCure'' with one of her casual outfits.
** One of Iona's outfits in ''Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure'' incorporates this, as do the costumes that come with the Roller Blade and Ninja [=PreCards=].
** Kirara Amanogawa wears this on her days off in ''Anime/GoPrincessPrettyCure''.
** Mirai Asahina in ''Anime/MahoGirlsPrecure'' wears a pair similar in design to [[VideoGame/PokemonBlack2AndWhite2 Rosa]]'s as part of her regular casual outfit, and Mofurun in TheMovie sports pumpkin pants in her Cure form.
* Sakura Kyouko from ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'' wears cut-off jean shorts as part of her civilian outfit.
%%* The titular ''Anime/RevolutionaryGirlUtena''.
* Flum Apricot, the protagonist of the Yuri Dark Fantasy Light Novel series ''LightNovel/RollOverAndDie'', wears short shorts as part of her default outfit after becoming an adventurer. She wears those shorts because they are easier for her to move and fight in which is something Milkit points out as well.
* Akasha Bloodriver from ''Manga/RosarioPlusVampire'' is shown to wear this under her gown when she removes the latter right before [[spoiler:her sacrificial attempt to go Medieval on Alucard's ass.]] OfCorsetsSexy also comes into play.
* ''Anime/SailorMoon'':
** Usagi Tsukino wears this with several of her outfits. Rei Hino has also worn this from time to time.
** Also the Amazoness Quartet's final disguise in Super S.
** The Starlights probably count as well.
* Ai Astin from ''LightNovel/SundayWithoutGod'' wears short shorts as part of her regular gravekeeper outfit.
* From ''LightNovel/SwordArtOnline'', Sinon's Gun Gale Online outfit could qualify as short shorts, although it was overlaid by green covers.
* Yoko from ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann''.
* Mew Zakuro from ''Manga/TokyoMewMew''.
* Touka Kirishima from ''Manga/TokyoGhoul'' wears them in the first manga. In the sequel, '':re'', she wears pants instead to show her more mature nature.
* Yeon from ''Webcomic/TowerOfGod''. Paired with bare shoulders. She's wearing pantyhose underneath.
* In ''Anime/VividredOperation'', not only are the girls commonly seen wearing bloomers, but short shorts are part of the ''school uniform''.
* Female characters from the Western manhwa ''Western Shotgun'' (웨스턴 샷건; known in English as ''Blazin' Barrels'') aren't shy to show their cleavages and legs. The two characters who wear short shorts most often are SherylCrow (셰릴 크로우) and Amita Crusoe (아미타 크루소).
* ''Anime/YuGiOh'':
** Anzu Mazaki/Tea Gardner occasionally wore short shorts as part of her outfits, when she wasn't wearing a mini skirt.
** Let's not forget Shizuka/Serenity during Season 3 and the second half of Season 2.
** Mai Kujaku/Valentine from the same show normally wears a purple skirt with a white corset, but wore purple short-shorts and a black corset when she was temporarily {{Brainwashed}} by Dartz during the events of Season 4.

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* During a period of time in ''ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogArchieComics'' where the main characters were forced to go to school, Bunnie Rabbot wore some of these.
* ''ComicBook/BlackCanary'': During the ''DC YOU'' ongoing, it became common for Dinah to wear short-shorts and would frequently fight in them. After ''DC Rebirth'', this became her default look, alongside a corset top and her usual jacket/fishnets, in order to maintain her classic aesthetic with a Burnside-like improvisation.
* Creator/DCComics' Dolphin
* Ninjette from ''ComicBook/{{Empowered}}'' habitually wears a pair apparently held together at the sides by shuriken and with her ''nom de guerre'' [[HighlyVisibleNinja printed across the seat]].
* ''ComicBookFridayThe13thBloodbath'': Violet spends a lot of the story wearing cutoff jeans that cover about as much as a pair of panties would.
* ''ComicBook/RedRobin'' villain the Wanderer pairs incredibly short shorts with the rest of her revealing outfit. She kills via skin contact and appears to have an impressive healing factor so her outfit at least makes some semblance of sense.
* ComicBook/{{Robin}}s Dick Grayson and Jason Todd in the classic costume are a pair of rare male examples. [[ComicBook/RobinSeries Robin III]] Tim Drake opted for armored pants, as did those following him. In modern flashbacks Dick and Jason are given pants or tights as well.
* ComicBook/RobynHood suffers from progressive ClothingDamage over the course of ''The Hunt'' mini-series. By the time she reaches the final showdown, her tights have been reduced to an extremely abbreviated pair of shorts.
* Ramona Flowers, love interest of ''ComicBook/ScottPilgrim'', frequently wears short shorts, often with brightly colored tights underneath.
* ''ComicBook/Superboy1994'' supporting character Roxy Leech often wears short denim shorts.
* ''ComicBook/{{Supergirl}}'': TheSeventies' Supergirl costume included [[https://usercontent1.hubstatic.com/7294390_f120.jpg red hot pants.]] It is one of her most well-remembered costumes.
* ''Franchise/WonderWoman'':
** ''ComicBook/WonderWoman1942'': During the decades long transitional period between wearing flowing culottes and wearing swimsuit style briefs Wonder Woman's running shorts spent quite a while being quite short near the end of the period in which she was clearly wearing shorts.
** Bobby Strong, one of the Holliday Girls, wears high waisted hot pants.
* ''ComicBook/YoungAvengers'' has Miss America Chavez, who almost always wears tiny shorts as part of her various CivvieSpandex ensembles.
* One difference between ''ComicBook/ZodiacStarforce'' and most Magical Girl series is that the girls wear shorts instead of skirts.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* This is part of Cure Western's outfit in ''Fanfic/PrettyCureHollywoodStars'', resulting in at least one comparison to Misty from ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'' (see above). The rolled-up jean shorts carry over to her Super Cure form, and Super Cure Western even pairs them with Grade B ZettaiRyouiki and, in the last episode, gold tights!
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10181533/18/Reinforced-Magic Reinforced Magic]]'' a unicorn who assumes a humanoid form after Harry makes her his familiar wears short shorts coupled with a [[BareYourMidriff short sleeveless vest]].
* LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya Flanderizes this in the ''Anime/PrettyCure''-style reboot, ''Fanfic/SOSPrettyCure'', and it even features in her Cure outfit, along with Grade A ZettaiRyouiki!
* ''Fanfic/UnbreakableRedSilkenThread'': Heather still wears them as part of her regular outfit, just like back on Total Drama.
* ''Fanfic/YetAgainWithALittleExtraHelp'': Who wears [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Shadow's]] short shorts? CRYPT! And subsequently gets his ass kicked by her.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films — Animation]]
* Kristofferson in ''WesternAnimation/FantasticMrFox'' wears short-shorts. Though it is most certainly not for sex appeal. [[UsefulNotes/FurryFandom At least we assume.]]
* [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dolly_gnome_1383.png Dolly Gnome]] from ''WesternAnimation/GnomeoAndJuliet''.
* In ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooCampScare'', Daphne and Jessica wear short shorts as part of their camp counselor outfits.
* ''Film/SpaceJam'': Lola Bunny wears a pair of short gym shorts as part of her original IconicOutfit.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films — Live-Action]]
* Felicity Shagwell in ''Film/AustinPowersTheSpyWhoShaggedMe''. They're skin-tight.
-->'''Austin:''' Those are skin-tight. How do you get into those pants, baby?\\
'''Felicity:''' You can start by buying me a drink.
* Pepper Potts in ''Film/TheAvengers2012'', as well as being barefoot. Since she usually wears business suits and high heels, this shows how relaxed she's become around Tony since their relationship started.
* Part of [[Creator/EmmaWatson Nikki]]'s wardrobe in ''Film/TheBlingRing''. Most infamously worn during the pole dancing sequence.
* Several women in ''Film/TheBroadwayMelody'' are shown wearing this backstage, making this OlderThanTheyThink.
* In ''Film/TheBurning'', Michelle and most of the senior female campers get around in very short shorts.
* Oliver, played by Creator/ArmieHammer, wears a very short pair of these while frolicking in the Italy countryside in ''Film/CallMeByYourName''.
* The Fabricants in ''Film/CloudAtlas'', specifically for fanservice since they're waitresses.
* When he's not on duty, [[PsychoForHire Agent Kruger]] does in ''Film/{{Elysium}}''. According to some of the BTS material, the idea of him wearing these came from his actor Sharlto Copley.
* In ''Film/EvenLambsHaveTeeth'', Sloane and Katie escape from their abductors wearing what they had been forced to wear, which is tank tops and very short shorts. These are the outfits they wear throughout their RoaringRampageOfRevenge.
* Worn by Candice during her fatal gymnastics practice session in ''Film/FinalDestination5''. Justified as most other gymnasts were wearing this as well during the same scene.
* Half of the scenes featuring Steve Christy in the original ''Film/FridayThe13th1980'' has him wearing shorts shorts, an ascot and [[WalkingShirtlessScene not much else]].
%%* Desiree in ''Film/GatorBait''.
* ''Film/TheGreatOutdoors'' features a female character wearing these in a bar, where she gets goosed with a pool cue wielded by one of the main male characters and, of course, romance ensues. Making the scene more remarkable is the woman is played by Creator/LucyDeakins, best known for chase tween roles in films like ''Film/TheBoyWhoCouldFly'', leading to some {{Fanservice}}.
* Kaz is dressed in tight white shorts for most of ''Film/GreatWhite''. When he changes out of them, it is to don a cutoff wet suit.
* ''Film/HeadlessHorseman'' has Candy, who enters the picture by stepping out of a tow truck wearing extremely short Daisy Dukes and a halter top.
* Subverted rather hilariously in ''Film/TheHeat'', when Mullins tries to cut Ashburn's clothes into something more [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV-Aw4L0B-M bar-appropriate.]]
* [[Creator/ZooeyDeschanel Trillian]] the first time we see her in the main story, in ''Film/TheHitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy''.
* ''Film/IKnowWhatYouDidLastSummer'': Helen spends two scenes wearing jeans with the pant legs cut entirely off.
* ''Film/IceColdInAlex'' is set in North Africa in World War Two. Most of the men wear long shorts, which were standard issue for British troops. Captain van der Poel wears short shorts.
* ''Film/JuliaX'': After returning home and cleaning up, Julia changes into an extremely abbreviated pair of cutoff shorts and [[StockingFiller stockings]].
* In ''Film/JumanjiWelcomeToTheJungle'', Martha's character Ruby Roundhouse is an {{Expy}} of [[Franchise/TombRaider Lara Croft]] and wears the requisite short shorts. Martha even comments on what a stupid choice of outfit this is in the jungle.
* Ellie Sattler from ''Film/JurassicPark'' spends the entire movie running around in shorts. Somewhat justified as she is on an island in the middle of the Pacific which would be pretty hot. The park's gamekeeper, Robert Muldoon, also wears shorts whenever he's on screen.
* In ''Film/LockjawRiseOfTheKulevSerpent'', Ashley wears a very short pair of Daisy Dukes despite them travelling to a swamp.
* In ''Film/TheMaster'', many of the navy men in the beginning of the movie. They were very much out of uniform.
* A male example is seen in ''Film/MiamiConnection'' with one guy in a jersey and a pair of tiny white shorts.
-->'''[[Podcast/RiffTrax Mike Nelson]]:''' Welp, gotta return these shorts to John Stockton.\\
'''Kevin Murphy:''' ''Wow!''
* Maya from ''Film/TheOddWayHome'' wears short cut-offs in some scenes.
* Alice in ''Film/ResidentEvil2002'', though the shorts are partly concealed by the red dress she's wearing.
* ''Film/SandsOfTheKalahari'': Following the plane crash in the desert, EgomaniacHunter O'Brien cuts his trousers down iinto a very short pair of shorts (which he combines with WalkingShirtlessScene).
* WalkingSwimsuitScene Jenny in ''Film/Seven1979'', who occasionally puts on a pair of extremely abbreviated denim cutoff over her bikini bottoms: seemingly just so she can take them off again later.
* In ''Film/{{Sheitan}}'', the lustful Jeanne struts around in an extremely abbreviated pair of denim cutoffs. In the middle of a French winter.
* Diana spends almost the entity of ''Film/SistersOfDeath'' in short shorts. The only times she isn't, she either wearing a bikini or a negligee.
* Harley Quinn's shorts in ''Film/SuicideSquad2016'' seriously didn't leave much to the imagination. Margot Robbie claimed this was done to keep Harley's sense of "style" while keeping the outfit manageable. ("We tried the court jester costume," the actress said, "we tried the corset and skirt, we tried leather pants, we tried literally every type of costume possible for her," but it seems all those options just didn't work.)
* The title character of ''Film/TamaraDrewe''. As a disapproving older woman notes, "She poured herself into those shorts. She'll give herself thrush." No one remembers the movie; everyone remembers the trailer that primarily featured this sequence.
* Creator/MelissaGeorge in ''Film/{{Triangle}}'' wears shorts with no tights for almost the entire film, which takes place mostly on the yacht and a cruise liner. What's notable about this example, however, is actually how ''little'' it all has to do with Fanservice (of which there is almost none in the film).
* Trailer trash Maya in ''Film/WildThings2''. In her first appearance is wearing a pair of Daisy Dukes cut short enough to expose the bottom of her butt cheeks.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* Everyone on ''Series/AmericanHorrorStory1984'', ''especially'' the men.
* ''Series/AreYouBeingServed'': During German week the staff is decked out in Lederhosen. There are two pairs of extra-short shorts, worn by Miss Brahms and Mr Humphries.
* Ally of ''Series/AustinAndAlly''. Justified due to the setting being Miami.
* 19-year-old Danger O'Riley in a first-season episode of ''Series/{{Bewitched}}''.
* ''Series/BlueWaterHigh'' is another Australian offender. But in a show about teenagers attending a surf academy, it is only to be expected.
* ''Series/{{Charmed|1998}}'': Part of Billie's Amazon outfit.
* ''Series/DoctorWho'':
** Zoe gets in on the act in [[Recap/DoctorWhoS6E6TheSpacePirates "The Space Pirates"]].
** Turlough also sports a nice pair in "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS21E5PlanetOfFire Planet of Fire]]".
** Amy sports a pair in [[Recap/DoctorWhoS31E8TheHungryEarth "The Hungry Earth"]]/[[Recap/DoctorWhoS31E9ColdBlood "Cold Blood"]], but the group ''was'' supposed to be in Rio (she wears them with tights because they actually filmed the episode in winter).
* ''Series/TheDukesOfHazzard'' has Daisy Duke, to the [[TropeCodifier point where "Daisy Dukes" is a well-known nickname]] for really short cut-off jean shorts. It's worth noting that due to TV censorship rules, she had to wear [[NudeColoredClothes flesh-color tights]] underneath. When TheMovie was released in 2005 (with Music/JessicaSimpson), the tights weren't necessary any more, and viewers got to see her actual legs.
* ''Series/{{Friends}}'': One of Phoebe's [[GirlOfTheWeek Guys Of The Week]] likes to work out in shorts with nothing underneath. Unfortunately the shorts are a little ''too'' short and baggy, whenever he sits down he keeps accidentally exposing himself without realising it. The gang find it incredibly awkward but nobody wants to say anything as they barely know him. It falls to Gunther to ask him to cover up when it happens in Central Perk.
* Graeme in ''Series/TheGoodies'' episode "Scoutrageous". So tight that he can't bend over in them. Almost certainly intended as FanDisservice.
* Each of the girls in ''Series/H2OJustAddWater''. Justified due to the setting being the Gold Coast which is in the tropical north of Australia's eastern seaboard. Creator/JonathanMShiff also used this in [[SpiritualSuccessor a later series]], ''Series/AlienSurfGirls''.
* Zoe Hart of ''Series/HartOfDixie'', who is ''a town doctor''. Frequently [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]].
* ''Series/NorthernRescue'': Maddie, her friend Gwen and her younger sister, most of the time.
* On an episode of ''Series/ThePartridgeFamily'', they got new outfits with the girls wearing short-shorts. Tracy later asks, "Why are these called hot pants? I'm freezing."
* Officer Jim Dangle, of ''Series/Reno911'' claims to wear his absurdly short shorts for mobility. It's BlatantLies; everybody knows he likes them that way.
* Kelly Kapowski and Lisa Turtle in ''Series/SavedByTheBell'' frequently wore short shorts. A.C. Slater and Jessie Spano occasionally wore them as well.
* Alexis Rose on ''Series/SchittsCreek'' likes to show off her long, beautiful legs, including in short shorts. She's wearing a pair when her boyfriend Mutt gifts her a bike she doesn't know how to ride. She also cuts off a pair of scrubs to make them short shorts.
* In his debut episode on ''Series/SEALTeam'', Thirty Mike spends some time in full combat gear - except that, in place of camouflage pants, he’s wearing tan short shorts.
* ''Series/StargateSG1'': [[https://2pantsreport.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/claudia_black_bounty0151_scddjaz-sized.jpg Vala]] rocks a pair along with a midriff top while off base in "Bounty".
* Captain Picard of ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'' wore a very revealing outfit featuring these during his stay on Risa in the episode "Captain's Holiday".
* A number of ''Franchise/SuperSentai'' heroines, including Yoko Usami (Yellow Buster) of ''Series/TokumeiSentaiGobusters'', Amy Yuzuki (Kyoryu Pink) of ''Series/ZyudenSentaiKyoryuger'' and Moune (Gosei Yellow) of ''Series/TensouSentaiGoseiger''.
* In ''Series/ThreesCompany'', everyone who played the 3rd roommate role (Chrissy, Cindy and Terri) over the course of the show frequently wore short shorts, especially Terri.
* ''Series/{{Victorious}}'' for pretty much all of the girls. Justified due to the setting being California.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Music]]
* 3OH!3 brings up the trope again in "Starstrukk":
-->Nice legs, Daisy Dukes
-->Makes a man go ''[whistle]''!
* 69 Boyz & Duice's "Dazzey Duks".
* Music/JamesBrown's "Hot Pants".
* Music/MileyCyrus, as evidenced in many candids.
* Extremely prevalent among [[KoreanPopMusic K-pop]] girl groups, especially Music/GirlsGeneration.
* Male example: 2D from Music/{{Gorillaz}} rollerblades while wearing a pair of ridiculously tiny jogging shorts in the video for "Humility"--seriously, they're so small that it almost looks like 2D's skating around in his underwear. [[MrFanservice Quite a few viewers (mostly the female ones) were pleased with this.]]
* Music/PixieLott. Every second outfit she wears involves a pair of these.
* Music/KylieMinogue's famous gold hot pants from "Spinning Around".
* Music/KatyPerry[='s=] song "California Gurls":
-->California girls, we're unforgettable

* Another male example: [[Music/NineInchNails Trent Reznor]] during 'The Self-Destruct Tour' in the 1990s.
* The TropeNamer would be the 1957 song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcvjXAtzaMU "Short Shorts"]] by the Royal Teens. You may know it via PopculturalOsmosis as "that song from the [[Memes.{{Advertising}} Nair commercials]]".
** Or an episode of ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons''.
** The song had a ShoutOut in Sheb Wooley's "Purple People Eater".
* Music/TearsForFears: In a RareMaleExample, there are promotional images of Curt Smith [[https://64.media.tumblr.com/c1f146aa18dbadc62da4f4cb88b7ec10/tumblr_mpsoveKtTQ1sr0850o1_1280.jpg wearing]] [[https://i.imgur.com/dw8OeLi.jpg short]] [[https://i.pinimg.com/736x/85/11/8a/85118a17463a93cd6f0146742800f59b.jpg shorts.]]
* Japanese guitarist [[Music/{{Versailles}} Teru]] is a rare male example of this (usually combined with BareYourMidriff).
* Rin Kagamine from Music/{{Vocaloid}}.
* Showed up frequently in CountryMusic in the early 2010s, particularly in the "bro-country" genre, which leaned heavily on party-hard lyrics. The idealized woman in a bro-country song was usually portrayed as wearing Daisy Duke-style jean shorts. It became such an omnipresent trope that, when the country duo Maddie & Tae spoofed the genre with their single "Girl in a Country Song", the second line went "[[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome it's gettin' kinda cold]] in [[ExposedToTheElements these painted-on cut-off jeans]]" -- and the video had them forcing the ''men'' to wear them.

[[folder:Myths & Religion]]
* Most vanaras (monkey-like creatures) in Myth/HinduMythology wear this.

[[folder:Pinballs]]
* Felicity Shagwell in ''Pinball/AustinPowers'' proudly flaunts her leather short shorts.
* In Bally's ''Pinball/EightBall'', "Pinky" wears a pair of scandalously (for the time) short white shorts.
* Melony and Ellen in [=WhizBang=] Pinball's ''[[Pinball/WhoaNellieBigJuicyMelons Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy Melons]]'' are {{Farmers Daughter}}s who combine this with BareYourMidriff.

* Wrestling/LayCool often, though they did have ring gear that consisted of pants or long tights too.
* The majority of the Wrestling/{{WWE}} Divas 2004 onward wear short-shorts and halter tops in the ring.

[[folder:Sports]]
* Standard in women's volleyball (which dubiously contributes to its' reputation as ''the'' MsFanservice sport) and handball.
* Formerly ubiquitous in UsefulNotes/RollerDerby, still a fairly common sight at home team bouts but less common in traveling play, especially in the ultra-competitive WFTDA Division 1.
* These used to be standard issue in men's basketball, before they were slowly phased out in favor of the longer, baggier shorts currently worn. While they were being phased out players had the option to keep wearing the old short-shorts; legendary player John Stockton was [[http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-egW-Ktr1fMk/T85GFdcAe9I/AAAAAAAAAKg/oK-WtF5Sc4Q/s1600/5682ead4.jpg famous for these.]] Amusingly, apparently they were short because [[http://allball.blogs.nba.com/2013/10/31/talk-show-john-stockton/ Stockton was never asked to lengthen them until late in his career.]]
* Cutoff jorts are a common stereotype for students and fans of the University of Florida.
* UsefulNotes/AustralianRulesFootball is rather famous for the tight short-shorts that are part of the uniform. Perhaps not coincidentally, it [[EstrogenBrigade also has one of the larger female audiences of sports world wide]].
* Standard for competitive runners, male or female. Taken to the logical extreme by some professional females, who wear a bikini-style outfit.

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''Videogame/The3rdBirthday'' has Aya's Swimsuit outfit, consisting of little more than a bikini top and short shorts. The outfit's description even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] the impracticality of the outfit, given that the entire game takes place during the winter.
* Scharlachrot from ''VideoGame/ArcanaHeart 3''.
* ''VideoGame/BlazBlueChronoPhantasma'':
** Bullet wears uncomfortably tight-looking [[MemeticMutation hottopantsu]] that resemble a belt more than anything else, which makes the actual belt look redundant. In addition to Ragna calling it "butt floss" due to how gratuitous it is, this is also what inspired Taokaka to call her "Butt Lady".
** In a ''Chronophantasma Extend'' gag reel, Bullet's pelvic region is covered by the game's logo after the aforementioned hotpants are confiscated. Even Luna gets the point how revealing Bullet's attire is.
--->'''Luna:''' Ragna doesn't call you "butt floss" for nothin'.
** While she wears a short skirt under normal circumstances, Makoto has a pair of spandex shorts after Amane [[FinishingMove Astrals]] her.
* Desdemona in ''VideoGame/CityOfHeroes''.

** From ''VideoGame/Disgaea3AbsenceOfJustice'' comes Salvatore the Magnificent, who is also equipped with a pair of short shorts.
** In ''VideoGame/DisgaeaDimension2'', Laharl trades his shorts for pants. However, his vassal Etna takes his place in this trope as she trades her skirt for ''really'' short shorts.
* ''VideoGame/Fallout3'' has a Raider outfit of this type added with ''The Pitt''.
* The Great Khan outfits in ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas'' all feature this when worn by a female character.
** Both 3 and New Vegas feature the Raider Badlands Armor, which appear to also be homaging Tomb Raider's outfit.
* Yuffie of ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII'' and its expansions changes outfits most frequently out of the cast, but always includes short shorts and stockings.
* Yuna, everyone's favorite BadassAdorable summoner in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX'', comes back to ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX2'' as an ActionGirl, leaving her classic white top and long blue skirt for a hotter {{Fanservice}} AbsoluteCleavage shirt and tiny jean shorts underneath her [[ShowgirlSkirt half-skirt]] [[BuffySpeak thing]].
** Rikku wears one of this in green color in both games.
* Lightning from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII'' counts, with tight biker shorts that double as ModestyShorts.
** Alyssa Zaidelle from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII2''.
** The only free DLC costume for Serah (Style and Steel) featured a pair in favour of her usual mini-skirt.
* Other ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' games with this trope are ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIII'', ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyTactics'' and ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyTacticsAdvance'' (see those pages for details). The latter combines it with ZettaiRyouiki.
* Poison from ''VideoGame/FinalFight'' (and later ''Franchise/StreetFighter'') wears an absolutely tiny pair of these. Notably she's a hermaphrodite/pre-op transexual [[FlipFlopOfGod (in most translations)]] which does raise the question of trouser space...
* For ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening'', all of the series' previous protagonists got redesigns for their DLC appearances. ''[[VideoGame/FireEmblemGaiden Gaiden]]'''s female protagonist, Celica, received an outfit with a pair of shorts so short that even with the in-game picture cutting off just ''barely'' past the waist, it still shows bare thighs. ** Franklin's childhood friend Tonya Wiggins also wears a pair of denim shorts.
* Minogame from ''VideoGame/{{Hellsinker}}'' wears a kind of very short brown jeans shorts. One interesting thing to note is that while Minogame is a {{Hermaphrodite}} he is always referred to as male.
* Akari Ichijou of ''VideoGame/TheLastBlade'' wears a variation of a {{Miko}} outfit that includes these.
* ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime'': Saria differs from the other female Kokiri natives in that she wears shorts in lieu of a skirt. That's just one way in which she differs from other Kokiri--[[spoiler:she just so happens to be one of the Seven Sages]].
* ''VideoGame/{{Mega Man ZX}}'' has Aile and Grey(The latter being one of the few male examples of this trope.).
* The respective best endings in ''VideoGame/MetroidFusion'' and ''[[VideoGame/MetroidZeroMission Zero Mission]]'' feature Samus Aran in blue and orange short shorts and tanktop. * Ken Amada from ''VideoGame/Persona3''. He even wears them in the winter!
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** ''VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver'' has male examples in Youngsters, (a.k.a. the shorts-obsessed kids) who wear their shorts somewhere halfway down the thighs (other generation Youngsters have approximately knee-length shorts) and Bugsy, the Gym Leader of Azalea Town, whose short shorts only add to his already very [[ViewerGenderConfusion girly looks]]; for females, there's Whitney and Clair.
** ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'': Hilda, the female protagonist, has quite short shorts, as does Flying-type gym leader Skyla.
** ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite2''[='s=] version of Elesa.
** ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'' gives us Diantha.
** ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'': the female Team Skull Grunts, as befitting their urban gangster image; Sina (originally from ''X and Y'') switches to wearing short shorts in ''Sun and Moon''.
** Due to the existence of clothing shops from ''X and Y'' onwards, those playing as a female character can choose to sport this look as well.
** Spin-off game ''VideoGame/PokemonRanger'' also got in on the act: the female player character Solana wears shorts so small they're practically briefs. Summer's in ''VideoGame/PokemonRangerGuardianSigns'' also count.
* Matsu from ''VideoGame/SengokuBasara'' wears very short shorts (which are slit up the sides to boot).
* Shows up quite a bit in ''Franchise/ResidentEvil'', especially with the [[AndYourRewardIsClothes unlockable bonus outfits]].
** Claire in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2'' has some iconic pink short shorts over thigh length lycra. In ''[[VideoGame/ResidentEvilCodeVeronica Code: Veronica]]'', Claire gets an alternate costume with hot pants and no lycra, and in ''[[VideoGame/ResidentEvilTheDarksideChronicles Darkside Chronicles]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/ResidentEvilRevelations2 Revelations 2]]'' (an alternate costume in the latter) Claire gets the classic daisy dukes.
*** ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2Remake'' ditches Claire’s shorts shorts in favor of practical jeans. Though the short shorts return with as a alternate “classic” outfit.
** Rebecca gets some daisy dukes in her cowgirl outfit in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil0''. The basketball outfit from the EasterEgg photo in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2'' also counts, and was made into a selectable outfit in the ''0'' remaster.
** ''VideoGame/ResidentEvilRevelations'': In an early scene set in the mountains, Jessica Sherawat is wearing fur hat, fur jacket, fur boots... and short shorts over purple tights. [[ExposedToTheElements She complains about the cold]], and her partner Chris tells her "You should have worn your [[BoringButPractical thermal underwear]]." The kicker: this is nowhere ''near'' the least practical thing she wears in the game. (Not after you see her "wetsuit"...)
** Sherry in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil6'' can wear her original outfit from ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2'' as an unlockable bonus. SheIsAllGrownUp, but the outfit is about the same size as it was before.
* Rottytops from ''VideoGame/{{Shantae}}'' wears a pair of daisy dukes with a skull shaped belt buckle. As Rottytops is also a zombie, her shorts allow her to easily detach one of her legs from her body and use it as a weapon.
* Ms. Fortune of ''VideoGame/{{Skullgirls}}'' when it comes to playable characters. Patty from The Last Hope when it comes to non-playable characters in ''Skullgirls''.
* SAXTON HALE of (the {{backstory}} comics of) ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'' is [[TestosteronePoisoning so manly]] that he rarely wears much more clothing at all!
** In-game, the Heavy can wear short shorts. (And this was after the devteam specifically asked to not make short shorts for the Heavy.)
* Princess Ailish from ''VideoGame/{{Sudeki}}'' wears an odd combo of a one-piece bikini with a pair of short shorts over it in her first two outfits.

** The Coven's self appointed leader Joy wears rompers, which end in short shorts, she compliments them wearing pantyhose.

* ''WebAnimation/HomestarRunner'''s "creepy pants" are a pair of hot pink/purple shorts of the 'Daisy Duke' variety (an American form of shorts made by cutting the legs of snug jeans, sometimes so much so that the white pocket liners can be seen). It is later revealed that he was out of his mind on Strong Sad's anti-depressants at the time.
* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'': During the Yellow Trailer, Yang is introduced feet first as she dismounts her motorbike. The camera then follows her into a nightclub as an upshot that focusses entirely on her legs and hotpants-covered backside. The frilled half-skirt accentuates the sway of her hips as she walks, making the entire scene an act of fanservice.

* ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'':
** In a rare male example, Jake seems to be associated with short shorts above and beyond any of the other characters -- both of his alchemised outfits in Act 6 Act 4 feature them, and even earlier on when he was wearing much longer shorts he one point tried to wear [[Franchise/TombRaider Lara Croft]]-style gun holsters and thought to himself that he'd probably need to be wearing shorter shorts to pull them off. Not only ''that'', but Jake's class is the Page, whose god tier outfit features memetically speedo-length shorts. At any rate, [[FanService the fandom sure appreciates it all.]] [[FanDisservice Mostly.]]
** In the Ministrife update, we also get to see an alternate-timeline God-Tier Tavros, who shares the Page class and thus the boy booty shorts. Depending on whether you see him as EndearinglyDorky or just [[{{Pun}} a dorky bull]]...

Andy thinks they're ridiculous, but is soon the [[{{Pun}} butt]] of scorn from the hip crowd because he isn't wearing them. When he finally comes around, he finds they're no longer hip, as they've gone mainstream and worn by the middle-aged.
* In ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', Princess Ember's armor seems to include this ([[OffModel aside from when she's green]]), though it can be hard to notice due to the anatomy of dragons as well as the fact that that part of her armor extends several times longer to her tail. It is easiest to notice when she is sitting up after Spike saves her from drowning.

Hot pants, mini shorts, booty shorts, or [[Series/TheDukesOfHazzard daisy dukes]]? Whatever you call them, it can be a great
way to ShowSomeLeg without having to worry convey information about a PantyShot.

* Kallen from ''Anime/CodeGeass''.
* ''Manga/DragonBall'':
It almost seems like they take turns in wearing them - Lisanna usually wears shorts
ModestyShorts, for when Lucy is wearing a skirt, and Lucy usually wears shorts in the arcs [[OutOfFocus that Lisanna doesn't take part in]].
* ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'':

* Akasha Bloodriver from ''Manga/RosarioPlusVampire'' is shown to wear this under her gown when she removes the latter right before [[spoiler:her sacrificial attempt to go Medieval on Alucard's ass.]] OfCorsetsSexy also comes into play.
* ''Anime/SailorMoon'':
** Usagi Tsukino wears this with several of her outfits. Rei Hino has also worn this from time to time.
** Also the Amazoness Quartet's final disguise in Super S.
** The Starlights probably count as well.

* Creator/DCComics' Dolphin

* ''Fanfic/YetAgainWithALittleExtraHelp'': Who wears [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Shadow's]] short shorts? CRYPT! And subsequently gets his ass kicked by her.

* Kristofferson in ''WesternAnimation/FantasticMrFox'' wears short-shorts. Though it is most certainly not for sex appeal. [[UsefulNotes/FurryFandom At least we assume.]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]

* Ally of ''Series/AustinAndAlly''. Justified due to the setting being Miami.
* 19-year-old Danger O'Riley in a first-season episode of ''Series/{{Bewitched}}''.
* ''Series/BlueWaterHigh'' is another Australian offender. But in a show about teenagers attending a surf academy, it is only to be expected.

* ''Series/DoctorWho'':
** Zoe gets in on the act in [[Recap/DoctorWhoS6E6TheSpacePirates "The Space Pirates"]].

[[folder:Music]]
* 3OH!3 brings up the trope again in "Starstrukk":
-->Nice legs, Daisy Dukes
-->Makes a man go ''[whistle]''!
* 69 Boyz & Duice's "Dazzey Duks".
* Music/JamesBrown's "Hot Pants".
* Music/KatyPerry[='s=] song "California Gurls":
-->California girls, we're unforgettable
-->Daisy Dukes, bikinis on top
* Rin Kagamine from Music/{{Vocaloid}}.

* Scharlachrot from ''VideoGame/ArcanaHeart 3''.
* ''VideoGame/BlazBlueChronoPhantasma'':

** ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite2''[='s=] version of Elesa.

** Sharla from ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1'' starts with the [[http://youtu.be/ZeDaBS28nRw?t=6m30s latest combat Daisy Dukes]] as her default equipment.
** Pyra from ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2'' wears even shorter shorts. So short, they border on being UnderwearOfPower.

* ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc'': Aoi Asahina wears shorts as opposed to all the other girls in all the other installments who all wear skirts in various lengths. She still wears shorts in the anime sequel (see above).
* In ''VisualNovel/KatawaShoujo'', Lilly's pyjamas involve a relatively modest top and a pair of ''very'' short shorts. [[ShesGotLegs Hisao sure appreciates the view.]]
* ''VisualNovel/MonsterProm'':
** The HardDrinkingPartyGirl Polly has two casual outfits, in both of them, she wears short shorts, in one it's white denim the other are black jeans.

* In ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'', Grace wears these under her pants during her birthday party. The pants were sized to fit her [[GenderBender male form]] and when she [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=800 changed back to female]] the pants slipped off giving her the appearance of [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=809 wearing no pants at all]] given the length of her shirt.
* ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'':
* Part of Taylor-Ruth of ''Webcomic/HangingRockComics'' fame's iconic outfit.

** In TheMovie, Joe's wife dies and he gets her legs. Leading him to proclaim "Who wears short shorts? ''[[NoIndoorVoice I WEAR SHORT SHORTS!"]]''
* ''WesternAnimation/TheMagicSchoolBus'':
** Phoebe's regular outfit incorporates oversized red short overalls.
** In ''WesternAnimation/TheMagicSchoolBusRidesAgain'', Dorothy Ann's swimsuit incorporates light blue shorts.
* On ''WesternAnimation/MissionHill'', Jim returns from Japan with the latest thing there, brightly colored short shorts with Franchise/HelloKitty style decorations.
* In ''WesternAnimation/RegularShow'', use of Death Kwon Do requires cutoff jeans and a mullet. (In fact, anyone can use Death Kwon Do immediately just by wearing them.)
* ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'': The finale to "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer." Someone wondered where the police were, and were informed by the Mayor they were investigating a boat crash carrying hot pants. Cut to the entire force, including Chief Wiggum, asking 'Who wears short shorts?'

the African climate, link so that it points to the Selous Scouts of the Rhodesian Army often wore short shorts and tennis shoes in combat.

Cleaned up the entry for the fanservice examples and removed the examples that are characters who just happen to wear hotpants, but it's not used in a fanservice way.

* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'':
** For the first three volumes, Yang wears a lopsided skirt that is held around her waist by a belt because it's completely exposed at the front of her body. It frames the hot-pants she wears and exposes her long, bare legs, serving to act as a quirky, asymmetrical "frill" to her design rather being a genuine skirt. As a combat fighter who prefers close-combat physical fighting, it enables Yang to fight as freely as possible while also accentuating her femininity.
** For the first three volumes, Blake wears a pair of tight white hot-pants over a pair of purple-tinted black tights. The shorts have black zips in the front of each leg, which creates the illusion that she's wearing an exposed garter over her shorts to hold up stockings.
** Cinder has worn two different outfits that include a hotpants design.
*** For the first three volumes, Cinder wears a pair of black hotpants underneath her signature red mini-dress that are laced together over each hip. While they expose the skin over her hip, they allow her to fight without exposing anything else.
*** During the Atlas Arc, Cinder wears a black catsuit that has cropped legs, creating another hotpants look. She pairs the catsuit with thigh-high boots and a cape.

Hot pants, mini shorts or [[Series/TheDukesOfHazzard daisy dukes]]?
