* In ''Film/{{Footloose}}'', the entire town is suspicious of Ren because he's from Chicago. Many locals go out of their way to try to prove that Ren is a troublemaker despite the fact that he has the best of intentions. In the end, he helps change the town's attitude by setting up a dance and convincing the Reverend to lighten up.

In the end, he helps change the town's attitude by setting up a dance and convincing the Reverend to lighten up. The massively ironic and hilarious thing is, had the people averted this trope, Ren would actually not have done anything at all and done his best to acclimate to the town and keep his city-based traits in check, even if he struggled, making their attitude towards him a massive SelfFulfillingProphecy.

By dealing with the problem of raiders attacking their city, and fixing the power plant of a nearby town, he or she can earn their trust and become one of them.
* In ''VideoGame/{{Fallout 3}}'', the residents of Little Lamplight are quite wary of adults. Given that the player character can [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential enslave]] them, [[ProperlyParanoid their paranoia is quite justified]].

* In ''VideoGame/PotionPermit'', Moonbury's townfolk don't trust chemists from the capital after an accident nearly destroyed the local wildlife, and they certainty wouldn't trust you with medicine because of it. It's your goal to undo this, as Matheo's traditional methods can only do so much.
