** "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" gives us a huge on from Diamond Tiara, who undergoes a HeelFaceTurn after being shown kindness by the Cutie Mark Crusaders, whom she'd done nothing but torment up to that point. But the CMC discover her FreudianExcuse, her demanding, abusive mother, and treat her with kindness. She, in turn, defends the CMC to her mother after she calls them "blank flanks", a slur Diamond Tiara had used herself in the past, but now acknowledges as hurtful and mean. She is also the first to tell the CMC that their cutie marks are beautiful.

* WesternAnimation/BubbleGuppies: This pretty much occurs all the time in the OncePerEpisode "outside" segment. In the story, two or three of the kids are helping various creatures, but they seem to be followed and chased by a bigger and more dangerous creature which they avoid 2-3 times. When said creature catches up, they reveal they're actually nice and needed their help or wanted to join them.

* WesternAnimation/LittleEinsteins:
** In "The Birthday Balloons" when the team visits a jungle, they are followed by a snake; when said snake catches up later, he starts singing Annie's balloon song, causing Annie to realize the snake is friendly and he saw where her balloons went.
** Twice in "Knock on Wood" when the team is trapped, they encounter a rattlesnake and an alligator coming toward them. Once out of danger, said rattlesnake and alligator go past them and meet another of their kind, revealing they weren't chasing them, they were just finding their friends.
** In "A Little Einsteins Halloween", the team is followed by ghosts as they go trick or treating at various castles, thinking they're here to steal their treats. At the final location, Leo takes a closer look at the ghosts and reveals they were actually costumed instruments who wanted to come trick or treating with them.

** In "Stall Monitor", Lincoln thinks Mrs. Johnson is going to tell his parents he's a bad student, but she actually tells them he's a good student.

There are many potential reasons why the character was surprised-- maybe they're used to being mistreated, whether due to an abusive childhood, living in a CrapsackWorld, or having a bad work environment. Perhaps they have a negative association with the other person's profession, nationality, etc (e.g. someone who had Sadist Teachers in school expects a teacher to be mean). Then again, maybe they're just a HorribleJudgeOfCharacter, someone who HatesEveryoneEqually, TheCynic, or think that HopeIsScary. They might also be evil or obnoxious and thus don't expect a person to help them (if evil, this can overlap with EvilCannotComprehendGood).

*** Harry and Ron are caught saving Hermione from a mountain troll in the girl's bathroom, which was partially Ron's fault for calling Hermione names and driving her to the bathroom in the first place, and involved sneaking off and using magic out of class.
