Your studly, womanizing main man is walking down the school hall, and eyes a gorgeous woman he's never seen before. When he tries to start putting his moves on her, he finds out something.

She's blind.

Or deaf, or has a prosthetic leg, or something like that.

But don't worry, she'll still probably fall for you anyways.

The Disabled Love Interest is a (usually [[GirlOfTheWeek temporary]]) LoveInterest, most often InspirationallyDisabled. She'll overcome her challenges in the end, and have a steamy kiss while she's at it. Homework question: Why is she usually only temporary? UnfortunateImplications indeed.

* Asuka ''may'' become one in ''RebuildOfEvangelion 3.0'' [[spoiler:due to losing an eye in the Unit 3 test]], as the teaser at the end of ''Rebuild 2.0'' shows her wearing an eyepatch. Whether she's permanently blind in that eye or merely required to wear it while recovering from surgery remains to be seen.
* Bikko from ''RomanticFool'' [[KatawaShoujo used to be]] the premier Disabled Love Interest on [[ImageBoard Fourchan]].
* [[{{Moe}} Nunnally]] [[ProperLady Lamperouge]] from ''CodeGeass'' is really more of a Disabled Cutie at age 14, but family history suggests she'll become one of these in a few years. * In a similar vein, Hayate of ''MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha A'''s, at least until the seasons end.
* [[AngelicLayer Suzuhara Shuuko]] is [[{{Expy}} practically an adult version]] of Nunnally, above. No surprise, considering it's {{CLAMP}}.

* Cheza in ''WolfsRain'' is very pretty. She's also blind, but that never seems to trouble her. Of course, being not quite human she doesn't have any romantic interests, except for Kiba and he's a ''wolf''.
* The blind violinist Madoka Otowa from ''GetBackers''. Who could also double as a HandicappedBadass, given the musical instrument skills.
* Edward Elric from ''FullmetalAlchemist'' qualifies as both this and HandicappedBadass. [[spoiler:Havoc and Lanfan qualify on both counts as well.]]
** Izumi's missing a large part of her internal organs and Roy [[spoiler:loses an eye in the first anime and goes blind in the second/manga]], yet that doesn't stop them from being attractive.
* Tomoe in the last ''QueensBlade'' OVA, who is cursed by the Swamp Witch and goes blind by the end of the OVA, giving context to the blindness she experiences in ''Queen's Blade Rebellion''. Blind or not, she's quite easy on the eyes, as is pretty much everyone else in that series.
* Subverted with Erza from ''FairyTail'' who loses her eye but gets a replacement.
* Sesshomaru from ''{{Inuyasha}}''.
* Ayase Shinomiya from GuiltyCrown is in a wheelchair, and also easily the most attractive girl in the show.
* Eboshi in ''PrincessMononoke'' doesn't let [[spoiler:getting her arm ripped off]] in the way of being a highly elegant and charismatic lady.
* In ''PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'', Sayaka's (unrequited) boyfriend Kyosuke has a mangled hand and is bedridden because of it. Of course, due to Sayaka having access to a wish-granting entity, he doesn't stay disabled for long.

* [[DareDevil Matt Murdock]], who is blind.
** In a story arc of Daredevil, Matt Murdock falls in love with a deaf woman, who in reality is a superheroine named "Echo"
** Matt Murdock also falls in love with an average blind woman, Milla Donovan.
** Played up in TheMovie, where he's played by Ben Affleck.
* Barbara Gordon (formerly {{Batgirl}} and Oracle), from ''Comicbook/{{Batman}}'' and ''BirdsOfPrey'', is wheelchair-bound, but [[BadassBookworm she can still]] [[HandicappedBadass kick your ass]].
** After the Comicbook/{{Flashpoint}} a CosmicRetcon makes sure she's back on her feet. However, in the new continuity she was wheelchair bound for at least three years, and her status as a Disabled Love Interest is hardwired in her character, as almost everything reminding her of her past handicap (getting a gun pointed to her belly, seeing a wheelchair lift...) acts as a {{Trigger}} for her post-traumatic stress disorder.
* For ''FoxTrot'', it's Peter's blind girlfriend, Denise.
* ''ElfQuest'''s Rillfisher went deaf, but that may have been after she and Treestump became an item. (Her deafness contributed to her death, because she couldn't hear the breaking branch that fell on her.)
* One of [[ArchieComics Jughead Jones]]'s love interests in the early 1990s was Anita Chavita, a paraplegic with genius-level intellect. She looked as good as your average Archie girl, but was stuck in a wheelchair.
** Her constant sermonizing about her plight deducted from the hotness though.
* Josie Beller, a.k.a. Circuit-Breaker, from Marvel's Generation One ''{{Transformers}}'' comic, was definitely [[HotScientist good-looking]], and, given how {{Stripperiffic}} her cybernetic PowerArmor was, she knew it. Bear in mind that she was also a [[VanHelsingHateCrimes vengeful]], [[KnightTemplar obsessed]] BadAss.
* From ''CreatureTech'', Katie. She's blind in one eye and has a withered hand. Dr. Ong falls in love with her, and feels terrible for having mocked her back when they were in school together. Ong himself gets an alien symbiote attached to him [[CursedWithAwesome which he considers very disfiguring]]. At the end of the story, Ong gets access to a HealingPotion, but only enough for a single person, and he pointedly gives it to Katie rather than using it himself.
* Cassandra Craft, the blind girlfriend of ThePhantomStranger.

* Blind Mag of ''RepoTheGeneticOpera'' qualifies as this in her early life, until GeneCo gave her new, functional eyes.
* Ivy from ''TheVillage'' is blind, and the hot love interest of Lucius.
* Averted with Felicity in the film ''{{Felidae}}''. She's blind, but she doesn't become the main hero's (i.e., Francis) love interest...though they do form a close friendship. Oh, and [[spoiler:she gets decapitated shortly after her first appearance.]]
* Helena in ''JenniferEight'' is blind.
* Marlee Matlin is deaf in real life, thus all of her characters are Disabled Hotties. Most appropriately to this trope in ''Hear No Evil'' and ''Two Shades of Blue'', however.
* Jessica Alba and Angelica Lee in the two versions of ''TheEye''.
* Lots of character in ''GhostInTheShell'' have losts limbs and other body parts, but with high-tech prothetics they are even stronger than before. The Major was completely paralyzed before being turned into a cyborg.
* Madeleine Stowe in ''{{Blink}}'' is blind. Before Aidan Quinn is assigned to her case, he sees her on stage playing the violin. Hoping to catch her eye, he strips down to his underwear while dancing to her music; he is put out when she doesn't even notice him. Another character tells Stowe's character about it later, saying that he was a "big showoff." Her response: "How big?"
** Stowe also appeared years before on an episode of ''Series/LittleHouseOnThePrairie'' as a blind girl who was still able to paint beautiful landscapes.
* Tia Carrere has a permanently bent and malformed hand in ''RisingSun''; in the book it's just a stump, but this was 1993, a year or two before prominent use of bluescreen technology to remove limbs from fully formed actors.
* Subverted in ''ShallowHal''. Hal is BlessedWithSuck ([[AnAesop or maybe]] CursedWithAwesome) and sees women as attractive based on their "inner beauty". As a result the disability part is hidden (particularly in the case of disfigurements) and the "hottie" part an illusion.
* In ''[[{{Literature/Crash}} Crash]]'' (the one by David Cronenberg), a woman with leg braces and pretty bad scars on her legs fascinates a number of men ([[EvenTheGirlsWantHer and one woman]]) in a sexually fetishistic way.
* In ''[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mask_(film) Mask]]'', Rocky Dennis falls in love with a beautiful blind girl. This is an interesting subversion because ''he'' is an InspirationallyDisabled one, not her.
* ''TheToxicAvenger'' from the Troma trash movies has a hot girlfriend who's blind. Very convenient since he's monster-like ugly. See also BlindAndTheBeast.
* Cherry Darling, ''PlanetTerror'''s main protagonist, loses a leg during the course of the film. If anything, she was enabled by this rather than disabled--after all, where else are you going to stick an assault rifle?
* Frigga/Madeline, the protagonist of ''[[ThrillerACruelPicture Thriller: A Cruel Picture]]'' (AKA "They Call Her One-Eye)" [[EyePatchOfPower had only one]]... yeah...
** Elle Driver from ''KillBill'' was modelled on the above character.
* In ''HeWasAQuietMan'', the protagonist gets the girl after she is rendered a quadriplegic. [[ItGotWorse It gets worse]].
* HelenaBonhamCarter in ''The Theory of Flight''.
* Jenelle Betz, from ''DropDeadGorgeous''. A beauty pageant contestant, she bases her whole perfomance on (really bad) [[HandLanguage sign language]]. When an accident makes her deaf, she's described as rejoicing and revelling in her new status as a DisabledHottie.
* {{Monica Bellucci}} gets to play a deaf-mute ''gun moll'' in ''{{Dobermann}}''. Deaf and non-verbal, she's still every bit as mean as her lover, the boss of their ragtag team of thieves and murderers.

* Ian Stott of Cherie Priest's ''Bloodshot'' fulfills this trope. He's a handsome, charming, urbane WhiteHairedPrettyBoy vampire who was [[spoiler:blinded by government experiments.]]
* As a teenager, the protagonist of ''The Shadow of the Wind'' falls in love with an older woman who is blind.
* In ''ThingsNotSeen'' by Andrew Clemens, Bobby falls in love with a blind girl.
* In ''Hornet's Sting'' by {{Derek Robinson}}, Major Cleve-Cutler falls in love with a beautiful woman who happens to have lost a leg (we never find out how).
* In the ''GauntsGhosts'' novels, deaf sniper Nessa is repeatedly referred to as attractive or downright beautiful.
* Dea in ''TheManWhoLaughs'' is a beautiful and virtuous blind girl, and the primary love interest of the protagonist.
* Amy a.k.a. Cucumber from ''{{John Dies at the End}}'' is missing a hand, which the protagonist Dave interestingly enough doesn't discover until midway through the novel.
* Theodora "Teddy" Carella, the hot wife of Detective Steve Carella, in the ''[=~87th Precinct~=]'' novels by Ed [=McBain=].
* In the ''SweetValleyHigh'' books, the gorgeous and popular Regina Morrow is deaf when she first appears. She eventually has surgery to correct the deafness.
* In ''PrettyLittleLiars'' Jenna fits this because of her blindess.
* Olivia Presteign from TheStarsMyDestination is an albino (complete with a realistically terrible eyesight and various related health problems). She is also ''incredibly'' hot. [[spoiler: [[EvilAlbino She's also the villain.]]]]

* Matt of ''SeventhHeaven'' dated a deaf girl off and on for several seasons, even learning sign language for her.
* There was a beautiful blind girl in an episode of ''[=~30 Rock~=]'', too. Subverted though, as at the end of the episode, the blind girl touches Kenneth's face for the first time and brushes him off immediately.
** Can you blame her? Once you think you've gone black it's hard to go back.
--->'''Kenneth:''' Yeah, well... you're not so good looking yourself!\\
'''Jennifer:''' No, I'm pretty sure I'm hot.
* There was an episode of ''SavedByTheBell'' where Zach pursued a girl in a wheelchair. Instead of it being an obstacle, though, he goes out of his way to be good about it, and even organized a wheelchair basketball game. Turns out she ''hated'' having all the attention cast on her, and wanted to be treated like anyone else.
* In ''Series/ArrestedDevelopment'', Michael dates a blind lawyer for a short while (possibly a ShoutOut to ''{{Daredevil}}''). This was [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] as she was fully capable of sight (except when some incident left her temporarily blind); she just acted like that to play with the emotions of the jury.
* One episode of ''HappyDays'' has Fonzie falling for a GirlOfTheWeek and, when he does his usual "finger snap girl-attention-grabbing gesture", finding it doesn't work. He worries that he's lost his mojo for a few seconds until Richie realizes that the girl in question is deaf.
* Another male version, Artie from ''{{Glee}}'' is in a wheelchair... and one of the show's most popular male characters.
* In ''StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'', Dr. Bashir falls for GirlOfTheWeek [[http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Melora_Pazlar Melora Pazlar]], who, having been raised on a low gravity planet, cannot walk in normal gravity.
* An episode of ''{{Friends}}'' features Chandler dating a girl with a prosthetic leg, and having to come to terms with it. Eventually, he realises that it's not a relevant flaw... and she [[MinorFlawMajorBreakup dumps him for having a third nipple]].
** [[RunningGag It's... it's more of a nubbin...]]
* On ''TheWestWing'', Josh has a thing for Joey Lucas, who is deaf and speaks with the help of her interpreter.
** Marlee Matlin (the deaf actress playing Lucas) probably counts as a real life example.
* Played with in ''JoanOfArcadia'' with Kevin who is both male and a regular cast member.
* Daphne Millbrooke on ''{{Series/Heroes}}'' has a degenerative condition which prevents her from walking, but her powers override it and give her SuperSpeed. When an eclipse takes those powers back, she becomes weak again, but this does not dissuade Matt.
** Does Emma, the [[DisabilitySuperpower deaf]] [[MusicalAssassin sound-manipulator]], count?
*** Deanne Bray, the deaf actress who plays Emma, is a real life example.
* ''DarkAngel'' had Logan / ''Eyes Only'', a hunky dude in a wheelchair, as [[SuperSoldier Max's]] love interest.
* Bennet on ''{{Dollhouse}}''. It's [[spoiler: River Tam]] with her arm in a sling. Or as Topher[[spoiler:s]] put it:
-->'''Topher''': Imagine John Cassavetes in ''The Fury'' as a hot chick.
-->[[spoiler: '''Topher!Victor''']]: Which you know I often have!
* Jim Byrnes of ''{{Highlander}}'' and ''{{Wiseguy}}'' a real silver fox.
* In the ''CurbYourEnthusiasm'' episode "Denise Handicapped", Larry dates a pretty woman in a wheelchair, and uses the fact that people are more considerate with the disabled to his adavantage.
* [[{{House}} Gregory House]] is a male UnkemptBeauty with a cane and a drug addiction.
* Ann from the ''{{Bonanza}}'' episode "Sound Of Thunder" was deaf and mute.
* In an episode of ''StupidStupidMan'', Nick dated a hot blind girl and seemed to have genuine feelings for her. However, he ended up dumping her because he couldn't get past the fact that she would never be able to appreciate exactly how gorgeous he was.
* Megan on the first two seasons of ''{{Weeds}}'' qualifies.
* On an episode of ''KingOfQueens'', Carrie is temporarily blind after bad laser eye surgery. Her husband Doug tries to console her by saying her blindness makes her more approachable, "Like Marlee Matlin! She's very hot but the deaf thing makes you think 'Hmm, I can get her!'"
* Auggie on ''CovertAffairs''. Blind and very handsome. Also has better romantic chemistry with Piper Perabo's character than either of the intended male romantic leads.
* Barbara Gordon/Oracle from ''Series/{{Birds of Prey}}''. [[http://birdsofpreyonline.com/gallery/dmeyer/BP01_DMCT09.jpg Sexy.]]
* Bonnie on ''{{Jericho}}'' was deaf, hot, and pretty badass with a shotgun when she needed to be.
* BBC ran an ''AmericasNextTopModel'' style show called ''Missing Top Model'', where all of the contestants where physically disabled. The winner has had several shoots with various magazines, including FHM.
* In an episode of ''{{The A-Team}}'' Face starts putting the moves on a girl who is blind. [[HandsomeLech Of course that doesn't stop him]].
* One of the most famous roles by Chilean actor Bastian Bodenhoffer is a rather atypical version of this, the blind book seller Leo from the SoapOpera ''Te conte''. Leo is remarkably cheerful and HotBlooded for the trope, sort of a HandsomeLech as well, very popular with women (specially the female leads, [[{{Tsundere}} Gianna/Shanna]] and [[TheOjou Sabrina]]) and [[spoiler: he wasn't born blind - he lost his sight in an accident when he was a teenager. By the end of the story he goes through the archetypical operation that may restore his sight... and it actually ''fails'', thus Leo is blinded forever.]]
* The ''[[{{Ptitlelr67penz}} Spartacus: Blood And Sand]]'' episode "The Thing In The Pit" features a brief but memorable appearance [[hottip:*:ironically, many didn't notice her missing hand because they were distracted by the realistic-looking prosthetic penis she's wearing]] by this(Warning--{{NSFW}})[[http://i53.tinypic.com/zoi45s.jpg]] extra with one hand.
* ''Series/SwitchedAtBirth'' has several deaf characters, all of whom are quite attractive- Daphne, Emmett, Emmett's mother.
* In ''DaysOfOurLives'' the "supercouple" Kayla and Steve used to have both of its members like that. Steve was (and, to date, is) still half-blind, wearing an EyepatchOfPower, and Kayla, after a (then) unknown assailant gets her into a gas explosion, loses her voice and hearing due to an odd combination of physical and psychological damage. After Kayla wakes up, Steve starts to woo her more eagerly, until they eventually elope. However, [[IGotBetter shortly before the marriage, Kayla gets a nigh-impossible recovery, regaining both voice and hearing]].
** Steve himself later gets a prostethic to fix at least the cosmetic part of his handicap, but he's forced to return to his badass eyepatch.
** While Kayla's recovery is suspiciously complete, even after a whole story-arc as a DisabledHottie, her knowledge of sign language isn't forgotten. Instead, becomes a plot point in every other occasion where the cast is meant to interact with deaf individuals.
* Seems disabled characters are a normal occurrence in SoapOpera fiction, as ''Camila'' in ''[[http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0220251/ Nano]]'', the protagonist main love interest, is (psychosmatically) deaf and mute. Coupled than acually Manuel, the titular ''Nano'' is already married, and spends most of the story unaware than Camila is non other than his long lost ChildhoodFriendRomance, and [[spoiler: she regains her voice and hearing in the end, when Manuel divorces his nagging wife to hook up with her]], makes of Camila a thinly veiled expy of TheLittleMermaid
* Again, an entire storyline in ''GuidingLight'' revolves about ''Beth'' being declared legally dead, while she was just mute, amnesiac and out of town, living a romance with her saviour.
** Then the cast gets ''Abigail'', a deaf Amish girl conflicted by returning to her community, or living in the ''outside world'' with the benefits of modern technology, and the prospect of having her hearing surgically restored. She chooses the latter.
* MyNameIsEarl's one-legged girl who is a permanent fixture on Earl's list after he stole her car. Earl attempted multiple times to meet her, but so far only managed to get beat up by her new boyfriend, this trope's male equivalent who has no legs and only one arm. [[CurbstompBattle It did not end well for Earl.]]
* Raj, in ''{{The Big Bang Theory}}'' he's, by himself, a selective mute unable to vocally communicate with the opposite sex, a thing women tend to find cute and endearing. However, his friends try to set him up with a stunningly beautiful deaf-mute girl, on the account that, being deaf, she wouldn't notice, or care for, Raj's handicap. She [[spoiler: ends dumping him the same, as she was just interested in Raj's money]].
* One episode of ''TheRockfordFiles'' had Jim meeting an attractive blind psychologist. While she was technically only a temporary love interest, she does show up again in a later episode. Jim still held a flame for her, but she was engaged to another man.

* ''Theatre/{{Wicked}}''. Nessarose, Elphie's sister is in a wheelchair, at least until she gets the ruby slippers.
** In the book, she was born without arms, and needs help to get around because she has balance troubles as a result; she also needs help eating, etc. The slippers don't do anything about her condition, they're just pretty gifts from her father, which allow her to give Elphaba a decidedly backhanded comment (it sounds like she's saying Elphie's pretty enough and doesn't need clothes to look good, and that's probably what she means, but Elphaba clearly hears "How much does an ugly girl need pretty things anyway?").
*** Glinda eventually enchants the slippers to help Nessa with her balance issues. With the slippers, she's still armless, but she can walk and everything by herself without needing outside help.
* See the Toxic Avenger example above? They made a musical out of it. The blind girlfriend is still in it. And is still smokin' hot.

* This is literally the entire point of the English-language DatingSim[=/=]VisualNovel ''KatawaShoujo'' (literally, "Disability Girls"), every heroine being disabled in some way. It is, in fact, much BetterThanItSounds.

* Another male example with [[BadassLongcoat Auron]] of ''FinalFantasyX'', who is blind in one eye after being [[spoiler: attacked by Yunalesca]]. He also keeps his arm in a sling, but this appears to be just for show as it is shown to be in working order for some of his overdrives.
* ''NoMoreHeroes'' has Holly Summers. She has a prosthetic leg that shoots homing missles.
* ''RivieraThePromisedLand'' has Meute, the resident mermaid, mute to due to an unspecified accident and with a fairy caretaker to speak up for her. [[spoiler: A completely optional sidequest allows you to fetch her the needed McGuffin to restore her voice, but it's a slow process and her voice skills stay impaired until the very end]].

They have the hots for each other, which is possibly the only aspect of their relationship that isn't severely dysfunctional, even by [[AllTrollsAreDifferent troll]] [[BlueAndOrangeMorality standards]].
** Terezi's a borderline case. She's blind, but she has [[TheNoseKnows super-developed senses of smell and taste]] which, as far as she's concerned, [[DisabilitySuperpower more than make up for her lost sight]]. Her boyfriend just wishes she'd stop trying to lick his face.
** Spades Slick is missing an eye and an arm, and Snowman still has the hots for him. Granted, she's the one who poked out Spade's eye and ripped off his arm in the first place.
* Mecha Maid from ''{{Spinnerette}}''.
* Mia from ''UnintentionallyPretentious'' is blind, and is [[http://www.unintentionallypretentious.com/index.asp?c=124 usually]] [[http://www.unintentionallypretentious.com/index.asp?c=71 played]] [[http://www.unintentionallypretentious.com/index.asp?c=129 straight]].

* Venom of the Axis of Anarchy in ''TheGuild''. A subversion in that she's a bitch.

* ''DrawnTogether'' had Princess Clara's mentally disabled cousin Bleh in the episode "The Other Cousin", who could count cards and catch things without looking at them. Spanky Ham calls her "retarded hot".
* Male example: [[AvatarTheLastAirbender Prince Zuko]]'s disfiguring facial burns haven't done anything to put off the {{Squee}}ing fangirls, in or out of universe.
** Also [[http://piandao.org/screencaps/ep17/ep17-598.png Teo]], who's stuck in a wheelchair.
** Some fans believe that Toph Bei Fong will grow up to be this.
* Another male example (YourMileageMayVary on that one) is blind Garrett from ''QuestForCamelot''.
** He's certainly "pretty" enough to become [[ActionGirl Kayley's]] love interest [[spoiler: and marry her in the end.]]
* ''FamilyGuy'''s Joe Swanson is a man's man, from the waist up anyway. Greased-up Deaf Guy? Not so much.
** One episode has Chris wanting to date Ellen, a girl with Down Syndrome and succeeding in this endeavor, but losing interest after it turns out that she's not so nice as he expected all people with Down Syndrome to be.
* Male example in ''TheVentureBrothers'': Dean's erstwhile LoveInterest Triana gets together with Raven, a {{Goth}} who walks with crutches and looks like [[Literature/{{Twilight}} Edward Cullen]].
