* Creator/GaryGygax, after parting acrimoniously with TSR and losing control of the direction of ''TabletopGame/{{Greyhawk}}'', was basically left with nothing but the ''Gord the Rogue'' licensed novels, which themselves were largely ignored. Consequently, the last such novel ends with the entirety of Oerth being destroyed by Tharizdun, and all the main characters dying and being reincarnated onto a new world. As the books were non-canon at that point, this didn't impact the setting to any degree.

Organized alphabetically.

* ''WesternAnimation/Animaniacs2020'' does this in the finale episode, with a little bit of EndOfSeriesAwareness. In the last episode of the show, some characters criticize the reboot and [[SelfDeprecation the franchise as a whole]] for being repetitive and formulaic. To top it all off, the final scene has a meteor crashing down on Earth, killing the Warner Siblings, the show's cast and everyone else. The end.
* The series finale of ''WesternAnimation/AquaTeenHungerForce'' ends with Frylock and Shake dead, Carl moving away, and Meatwad starting a family in a DistantFinale. Given how it was cancelled on the creators and wasn't their decision, they probably aimed for this trope to make sure there wasn't a revival. This is immediately subverted when it was revealed that not only was that episode not the final one to be released (the next one aired online three days later) but also it wasn't even the last one ''chronologically'' (Shake watches the events on TV and claims that they happened last week). Then again, the series ''does'' run on NegativeContinuity. The series then was revived with a series of web shorts in 2022, followed by a movie later that same year. A twelfth season consisting of five episodes was then announced and subsequently premiered in 2023.

* This is ultimately how ''WesternAnimation/DrawnTogether'' ended in its DirectToVideo Movie. After everything was said and done, Spanky accidentally steps on an Eraser Bomb; killing the entire cast and destroying the Drawn Together house. This is in addition to the other housemates being KilledOffForReal.
* ''WesternAnimation/InvaderZim'': {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d. Vasquez and Nickelodeon would do so years later with [[ComicBook/InvaderZimOni a comic continuation]] and [[WesternAnimation/InvaderZimEnterTheFlorpus a TV movie]].
* ''WesternAnimation/KidCosmic:'' The third season wrapped up with the heroes' Cosmic Stones that enabled their powers becoming permanently inert in the process of defeating Erodius and Fantos, Papa G left wheelchair-bound and on borrowed time as a result of giving up the healing stone in his possession and no hostile alien enemies remaining now that Fantos is dead, the Cosmic Stones no longer work and Erodius is no longer destroying planets. This is clearly to prevent Creator/{{Netflix}} from renewing the series for more episodes without any involvement from Creator/CraigMcCracken. Though given Netflix’s massive [[https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/netflix-animation-erased-executives-fired-220251819.html cancellations]] to its Kids and Family shows that happened soon after ''Kid Cosmic'' ended, [[ScrewedByTheNetwork it’s not like they were going to follow it up anyways]].

* ''VideoGame/CallOfDutyZombies'' reached a fairly definitive conclusion with ''Revelations'', the final map of the ''Black Ops III'' season which resolved the main MythArc and provided an EarnYourHappyEnding for the heroes. However, Treyarch brought the series back for ''Black Ops IV'', with a storyline that undoes the happy ending, and seemed to be building to the ''true'' finale with a great, epic final battle in the works. Ultimately, the story ends on a shockingly dark, bleak note as all the heroes die as they literally destroy the series's universe in hopes of finally ending all the chaos and zombie mayhem. Few of the ongoing plot threads were resolved, the main antagonist ended up not being faced, and literally everyone died except for Samantha and Eddie. Many fans suspect that this was Treyarch's tough-love way of ending the franchise and refusing to do anything further with the series, and asking players to move on.

** ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' does this for ''The Infinity Saga'', as Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow) dies from sacrificing herself for the Soul Stone, Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) dying after using the Infinity Stones that were gathered from the time heist to snap 2014 Thanos and his goons out of existence. Also, the original time stones were destroyed by OG Thanos five years earlier, and Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) ends up traveling back to the 1940s to stay with Peggy Carter after returning the time-heist Infinity Stones to their original points in time and his elderly self passes the shield to Sam Wilson (aka Falcon), believing him to be a worthy successor for the Captain America mantle.

* ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'' received an extremely abrupt DistantFinale ending that had many fans puzzled as to the remaining unresolved plot threads. A short time later it surfaced that Creator/KenAkamatsu had decided to end the series as a protest against his publisher Kodansha for their attempts to take away all the rights to the work, including the copyright itself and their intention to sue any and all {{doujinshi}} artists using the Negima characters and/or setting. Akamatsu, who himself began his career as a doujin artist, [[BerserkButton didn't take kindly to this]], promptly ending the CashCowFranchise immediately. Nobody is killed off, however, as the story goes out of its way to make any sort of continuation completely impossible. The BigBad is dealt with off-screen, and the romance is left ambiguous apart from ShipSinking for the four most popular pairings for the main character. Akamatsu returned to Kodansha once he worked it out with Kodansha that they would never, ever, try the stuff they had talked about before, such as dual-copyright ownership of the manga, suing doujin artists, etc., lest he decide to totally close up shop with them and [[Magazine/ShonenJump go to one of their competitors]]. Added DiffLines:

* The final arc of ''ComicBook/Batgirl2000'', ''Destruction Daughter'', had to wrap up the series while it was being cancelled due to DC editorial deciding they have too many female-lead titles, to be replaced with a book that lasted four issues and the editorial already planning to turn the main character, Cassandra Cain, evil in one of worst cases of CharacterDerailment in comics history. In line with this ''Destruction Daughter'' has Cassandra find ComicBook/LadyShiva is her mother and working for organization that nuked Bludheaven, killing all of the book's supporting cast. This leads Cassandra to break her ThouShaltNotKill rule, murder Shiva and quit superheroics, deciding she is no longer worthy to wear the bat-symbol.

See the film’s trivia page for edit reasons. I’m not even sure if the other MCU entry fits.

** ''Film/BlackPantherWakandaForever'' has a character-specific example of this. After Creator/ChadwickBoseman's passing in 2020, the movie opens with T'Challa being dead from an illness and the character's funeral subsequently proceeding it. And with T'Challa's absence being felt throughout the movie, coupled with Creator/KevinFeige being completley adament on not recasting T'Challa (something he was willing to do with Thunderbolt Ross with Creator/HarrisonFord taking over the role from the late Creator/WilliamHurt), it's very likely he will never be revived in any shape or form.

* ''Series/TheFlightOfTheConchords'': Brett Mckenzie and Jemaine Clement used up most of their existing material in the first season and had a hard time writing the second; rather than struggling to continue, they end the second season with all three leads being deported back to New Zealand and stuck working as shepherds (which they're apparently okay with).

Grant Morrison has their own creator page. I'm also revising the entry on the JLA comic to have at least one instance of mentioning their given name, as there has been more than one comic writer involved with DC who had the surname Morrison.

* This is actually common practice with ''ComicBook/DoomPatrol''. When the original series was cancelled, the entire team was killed off, but the cover encouraged readers to write in to save them, and since then it's happened multiple times that most of the team is killed off at the end of a run. Rather than an attempt to end ''Doom Patrol'', this is used as a way to "clear the board" so that the next writer can essentially do whatever they want; Grant Morrison talked with their predecessor Paul Kupperberg to specifically plan how the latter's run would end with only the characters Morrison wanted to use surviving.
* ''ComicBook/JLA1997'': When Morrison's run ended with the "World War III" arc, they only wrote out most of the characters they'd introduced during their run, leaving the same core 'Big Seven' team they started with (plus Plastic Man), and essentially handing the next writer a blank slate. The only character who ''died'' was ComicBook/{{Aztek}}, one Morrison themself had created, since the character's own comic was cancelled before it had a chance to end properly and Morrison rectified that by having Aztek appear in their run as a member of the League and had their final arc serve as a FullyAbsorbedFinale for Aztek by having him [[HeroicSacrifice give up his own life to beat the threat]].

In a case of in-universe, literal torching, Hellstrom sets fire to Druid's body and dumped the charred corpse into a dumpster.
