Contrast EnsembleDarkhorse (an unexpectedly popular (usually minor or secondary) character) and UnpopularPopularCharacter (a character hated or disliked InUniverse but loved by the fandom), compare CreatorsPet (a character loved InUniverse but hated or disliked by the fandom), and compare and contrast BaseBreakingCharacter (where one part of the fandom thinks a character is the Scrappy but at least a sizable chunk like them). If the Scrappy dies or suffers in some painful way where the audience actually starts to sympathize with the character, then it becomes AlasPoorScrappy. Not to be confused with CuteBruiser which is the original meaning of the word scrappy.

* If you're a kid in the northeast US in gym class, you're probably going to be subjected to lacrosse at some point. Lacrosse has a much, much steeper learning curve than any other sport introduced at the elementary/middle school level, and the majority of any gym class lacrosse game will be spent trying and failing to just pick the damn ball up. The sticks and balls used in gym class are designed for people who don't know how to play lacrosse and are weighted differently from competition quality lacrosse equipmentReal lacrosse sticks have netting attached to a frame, gym class lacrosse sticks are plastic with a bar to keep the ball from falling out of the stick. For added aggravation, there will often be a kid who actually plays lacrosse, and finds the low quality of the class equipment and the incompetence of their classmates intensely irritating.

*If you're a kid in the northeast US in gym class, you're probably going to be subjected to lacrosse at some point.

* Fanfic/Turtles: The student council, especially Kawashima. Most reviewers who express an opinion on them dislike them and virtually no one is defending them, despite the author pointing out that they aren't meant to be hated. Part of the reason is that as of this writing, the fic is at the point in the story in which the student council is almost completely unlikeable(i.e. before the semifinals match with Pravda roughly two thirds of the way through). It doesn't help that the fic going into more detail about the effort needed to get the tankery team up and running again makes the student council come off as less competent than in canon. Kawashima gets the worst of it, as while her terrible aim was regarded as an amusing RunningGag in the anime, people are hoping Koume will replace her with a gunner who can actually hit what she's shooting at.

* Hope Harcourt from Theatre/AnythingGoes has often been criticized as a wet blanket. In a show where every other main character gets to indulge in a fair bit of comedic hijinks, Hope's role is almost entirely devoid of humor. Making matters worse is she's a major source of Wangst. Depending on the scene, she's either whining about how Billy is harassing her, or how she wishes she could be with him. While not widely hated, this combination of being a buzzkill and being unable to make up her mind concerning the show's love triangle has caused many to say Hope is the most thankless principle role.

* While not the case in other versions of Theatre/LesMiserables, Cosette is not very liked in the musical. This is due to many perceiving her as underdeveloped despite her pivotal role, as most of her original characterization is cut out of the stage adaptation. Making matters worse is the musical made her romantic rival Eponine far more popular than she ever was before, thus causing many of Eponine's fans to say that Cosette doesn't deserve Marius.

* Little Red from Theatre/IntoTheWoods. She doesn't get any noteworthy songs, her character is fairly one-dimensional and boring, and she's far less important to the plot than the other principals. In fact, you could probably remove her from the musical entirely without affecting too much, save one scene where she dares Jack to climb the beanstalk again.
