* In ''Anime/SaberMarionetteJ'', Panther was voiced by Creator/KikukoInoue. She could not reprise her role in ''J Again'' on accouint of maternity leave, so Creator/EmiShinohara replaced her. Inoue was able to return for ''J to X''.

* Median voice actor Humberto Solorzano's most famous role is arguably [[ManipulativeBastard Gendo Ikari]] from ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'', and was the only other actor apart from Creator/VictorUgarte to return for the ''Renewal'' dub (even severing as TheOtherDarrin for [[TimeShiftedActors young Gendo]]). Despite this, he did not return for ''Anime/RenewalOfEvangelion''... until the third movie came out that is.

* The Smash Bros-eqsue ''VideoGame/CartoonNetworkPunchTimeExplosion'' featured only two characters (Mandy and Bubbles) receiving their original voice actors. When the console version came out, several characters got their original actors back.

* ''Disney/ReturnToNeverLand'', the sequel to Disney's ''Disney/PeterPan'', would have featured Kathryn Beaumont playing Wendy in an epic fifty-year RoleReprisal, but she got Other Marty'd by Creator/KathSoucie. Later that same year, Beaumont ''did'' get to be Wendy again in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI''.

** Creator/JenniferHale returns as Rojo in ''Omniverse'', after being replaced by Creator/KariWahlgren in ''WesternAnimation/Ben10UltimateAlien''.[[note]]It should be noted that Rojo only appeared for a cameo in "Hit 'Em Where they Live", an episode that included Charmcaster, so that recasting was probably done because it'd be easier and cheaper just to have Wahlgren do it rather than getting Hale back for a bit part.[[/note]]

** While TheOtherDarrin within the show, Storm's original voice actress in ''WesternAnimation/XMen'' Iona Morris, reprised the role during the ''ComicBook/SecretWars'' adaptation instead of Alison Sealy-Smith as Morris lived in LA and the original guest appearances of the X-Men proved expensive.

** In the Japanese dub of ''Anime/DragonBallKai,'' Creator/YukoMinaguchi did not voice Video due to her studying abroad, so she was played by Creator/ShihoKakinuma instead. Minaguchi would return as Videl for both ''Anime/DragonBallZResurrectionF'' and ''Anime/DragonBallSuper''.

* In ''{{Film/Phantasm}} II'', Creator/JamesLeGros replaced A. Michael Baldwin for the role of Mike but eventually Baldwin returned for the next films.

** [=DiZ=] was played by Creator/ChristopherLee in ''Kingdom Hearts II'', Creator/CoreyBurton in ''Chain of Memories'', Lee again in ''Days'', and Burton in all appearances since then.

* In ''VideoGame/PrinceOfPersiaWarriorWithin'', Creator/YuriLowenthal was replaced by Creator/RobinAtkinDownes for the role of the main character but Lowenthal came back for ''VideoGame/PrinceOfPersiaTheTwoThrones'' and VideoGame/PrinceOfPersiaTheForgottenSands.

* In {{Film/Phantasm}} II, Creator/JamesLeGros replaced A. Michael Baldwin for the role of Mike but eventually Baldwin returned for the next films.

* In ''Series/DoctorWho'', K-9 was voiced by John Leeson in Seasons 14-16, and then by David Brierley in Season 17. Leeson, however, returned in Season 18 and in all of the character's [[CommutingOnABus intermittent returns]] to the franchise since.

Not a huge issue, since Kairi was barely in those games, but ''Days'' notably introduced Xion, meant to be a case of SignificantDoubleCasting with Kairi, who wound up being played by Alyson first. For Kairi and Xion's incredibly brief scenes in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'' and ''VideoGame/KingdomHearts3DDreamDropDistance'', Hayden returned to both roles, putting Hayden and Alyson in the remarkable position of being ''each other's'' Other Darrin. Alyson came back for the HD remake of ''Days''. Since most of Alyson's work has been as Xion, and most of Hayden's has been as Kairi, English-speaking fans associate ''both'' actresses with the characters' identities, and would like to see the two characters played by different actresses in future installments.
** [=DiZ=] was played by Christopher Lee in ''Kingdom Hearts II'', Corey Burton in ''Chain of Memories'', Lee again in ''Days'', and Burton in all appearances since then.

* In ''Disney/{{Aladdin}}'', Robin Williams reprised his role as the Genie for the second sequel, ''Disney/AladdinAndTheKingOfThieves'', which came after Dan Castellaneta had played the role in [[Disney/AladdinTheReturnOfJafar the first sequel]] and [[WesternAnimation/AladdinTheSeries the TV series]]. Williams was persuaded to return when ''King of Thieves'' was already in production, making him Castellaneta's [[TheOtherMarty Other Marty]].
* ''Disney/ReturnToNeverLand'', the sequel to Disney's ''Disney/PeterPan'', would have featured Kathryn Beaumont playing Wendy in an epic fifty-year RoleReprisal, but she got Other Marty'd by Kath Soucie. Later that same year, Beaumont ''did'' get to be Wendy again in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI''.
* On ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'', the Robot Devil is usually played by Dan Castellaneta, but was replaced by Maurice [=LaMarche=] in one episode where his appearance was merely a throwaway gag.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheEmperorsNewSchool'', the spin-off to ''Disney/TheEmperorsNewGroove'', saw Fred Tatasciore replacing John Goodman. Goodman took over in the second season.

* When the Franchise/{{Barbie}} film series received an AnimationBump and started tackling more modern storylines, they also intended to get a fresh voice actress for Barbie, so Kelly Sheridan was let go after almost ten years in the role, and replaced with Diana Kaarina. Kaarina lasted barely more than a year before fan demand brought Sheridan back.
* Bulk Biceps of ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' was [[CreatorCameo voiced by director Jayson Thiessen]] back when all he ever said was [[BigYes "YEAH!"]] When he became an AscendedExtra with actual dialogue for the episode "Rainbow Falls", Michael Dobson was used. Thiessen's "YEAH!" returned in "Equestria Games".

Lazenby was poorly received, so the producers paid Connery a then-record $1.25 million to return for ''Film/DiamondsAreForever''.

TheOtherDarrin is an inevitable part of showbiz: actors are only human, and sometimes their health, schedule, and contracts don't let them hang around and reprise their roles. But that doesn't always mean the actor has been blacklisted and the studio finds their heinous abandonment unforgivable: sometimes they're asked back. Usually this is met with [[AndTheFandomRejoiced much rejoicing]]... though probably not from the replacement.

* A snarly example from ''Franchise/TheHitchhikersGuideToTheGalaxy'': Trillian was played in the original radio show by Susan Sheridan, and in the TV adaptation by Sandra Dickinson (despite most of the radio cast being kept on.) In the relaunched radio series made much later, ''both'' Trillians were cast, with Sheridan as the "original" Trillian and Dickinson as her alternate-universe counterpart from ''Literature/MostlyHarmless''.

* ''Series/RedDwarf'':
** Holly was played by Norman Lovett in Seasons 1 and 2, changed to Hattie Hayridge in seasons 3 to 5, was absent in season 6, then was back to being Norman Lovett in 7 and 8 (and disappeared again in Back to Earth and 10.)
** Kryten was played by David Ross in his first appearance, originally written to be a one-off character. When Kryten became a regular crew member, Ross was unavailable, so Robert Llewellyn was given the role. Ross returned later as the voice of the semi-regular "Talkie Toaster".

** Margot Yale was a RecurringExtra in the main series voiced by Marina Sirtis, and became a BigBad in the third season voiced by Tress [=MacNeille=]. Marina Sirtis came back for one episode of that season, but playing Demona rather than Margot.

* ''isney/ReturnToNeverLand'', the sequel to Disney's ''Disney/PeterPan'', would have featured Kathryn Beaumont playing Wendy in an epic fifty-year RoleReprisal, but she got Other Marty'd by Kath Soucie. Later that same year, Beaumont ''did'' get to be Wendy again in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI''.
