* Creator/DCComics: Unlike Marvel below, there aren't too many examples of this running around in DC, due to the lower number of telepaths they have in general. One of the few reliable DC force-sensors is Captain Comet, a mutant psychic who was generally the go-to for this when he joined Vril Dox's L.E.G.I.O.N. The stronger DC telepaths like Despero and the Martian Manhunter are presumably capable of it as well, though they generally opt for [[PowersDoTheFighting more direct applications]] of their psychic powers.
* Creator/MarvelComics: Mid to high-tier telepaths in the Franchise/MarvelUniverse are capable of this, with the concept seen most often in the ''Franchise/XMen'' corner of the Marvel U which has several extremely high-tier psychics such as ComicBook/ProfessorX, ComicBook/JeanGrey, [[ComicBook/XMan Nate Grey]] and [[Characters/MarvelComicsExodus Exodus]]. A fight between two of these characters in ''ComicBook/XMenLegacy'' put out enough psychic energy that telepaths literally on the other side of the planet could sense it. Nate's mere entry into the main Marvel Universe nearly puts all of Marvel's premier psychics into comas.
* In ''Comicbook/StarWarsTales'' #17, "The Apprentice", the Sith Master Finn says this about the slave girl Marka who had just mind-tricked his apprentice into taking her with him. Finn wonders if the Force led them to the god-forsaken rock of a world they are on just so they could meet her.

Suppose [[MagicAndPowers magic, ki,]] or PsychicPowers exist, and that there are people who possess these powers. Naturally, [[PowerLevel how strong]] a given person is with these abilities will be a big factor in the plot, both in the [[SuperWeight ass-kicking scale]] and in terms of how characters act and react to each other. But how can writers convey that to the audience? Sure, generally the rule is "show, don't tell", but what if a given character's psychic powers are to pinch shut the carotid artery? Or their SupernaturalMartialArts can crack a planet in two? Having them remind viewers ''"LuckilyMyPowersWillProtectMe"'' gets old fast. And you can't very well have them [[GoodThingYouCanHeal show the power off every time they appear]] so new viewers can get clued in, just imagine what that'd do to the SpecialEffects budget!

** An interesting example comes when Rimuru [[spoiler:fresh off becoming a True Demon Lord]] meets [[DemonLordsAndArchdevils Guy Crimson]], one of the most powerful True Demon Lords in the whole world. Rimuru can sense a massive maelstrom of magicules coming from Guy and among the most intense he's ever encountered, but then realizes after a moment and further confirmed by [[BenevolentAI Raphael]] that Guy is intentionally ''faking'' both the size and control he has over his magical aura both as a method of misdirection from the average viewer and to pick out anyone "interesting" who can figure this out, as someone who can has talent he wants to keep an eye on.

** Any monster with sufficient [[{{Mana}} magicules]] can be sensed even by {{Muggle}}s if they aren't bothering to restrain their magical aura. When Rimuru first emerges from Veldora's Sealed Cave and encounters his future goblin citizens, they are utterly terrified of him despite his CuteSlimeMook appearance because he's just letting his power flow out without restraint, and even at this early point in the series Rimuru has the raw magic power of an A Rank monster, which in the Jura Forest would be an nigh-unstoppable threat that would rip them to shreds. Rimuru realizes just how intimidating it was for them when he uses Magic Sense on himself...only to see a ''massive cloud'' of mana just leaking out of his body before he restrains it, much to the goblins' collective relief since it was choking to be around.

* In ''LightNovel/FullMetalPanic'', a variation of this can be found with Sousuke. He's shown to have a sort of sixth sense, in that he actually has the ability to sense "killing intent" in the air, and can somehow know when there are enemies that want to kill him. He demonstrates this ability several times, though one of the more pronounced instances can be found in the later novels. Tired, wounded (having had [[spoiler: a huge portion of his liver blown out of him by a shotgun]]), and confined to a hospital bed, he was shown to be able to sense a bunch of soldiers sent to kill him, and therefore managed to lay a trap for them by the time they arrived.

* ''LightNovel/RebuildWorld'': Heavily DeconstructedTrope. There are many InnerMonologue and discussions about what character's GutFeeling tells them about hunter's strengths. TheRival Katsuya gives off a strong aura that Shirakabe can't help but respect despite how much he hates Katsuya. Meanwhile Akira gives off a weak aura, but also repeatedly impresses people, to the point he's a PhraseCatcher for WhatTheHellAreYou. The discrepancy causes a lot of navel-gazing by Shirakabe who prides himself on his instincts. At first glance, this discrepancy seems simply to be that Akira's VirtualSidekick Alpha is moving him like PeoplePuppets and everything else she does to aid him, is making Akira seem stronger... but then comes TheReveal. [[spoiler:[[DifferentlyPoweredIndividual Old World Connectors]] like Akira and Katsuya are like a reverse version of TheEmpath, transmitting their feelings into others unconsciously. Katsuya appears strong, because he's prideful, and Akira appears weak, because he believes he's weak. The truth is that Katsuya is a PaperTiger, and after Akira feels more confident from having killed Katsuya while severely handicapped, people stop seeing him as weak.]]

* In ''LightNovel/IveBeenKillingSlimesFor300YearsAndMaxedOutMyLevel'', a sufficiently trained magic user is capable of sensing the {{Mana}} a person possesses, and thus gauging their magical power. It's for this reason that Azusa's efforts to avoid showing her power and become famous fail, because her first opponents, a group of adventurers looking to test their mettle, have a mage who can sense the massive amount of mana that's gushing from her body.

* On ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'', some Bajorans can sense the strength of someone's ''pagh'' by grabbing them by the ear. For his part, when he is first introduced in the episode "[[Recap/StarTrekDeepSpaceNineS01E20InTheHandsOfTheProphets]]" Vedek Bariel notably does not immediately go to grab Sisko's ear, surprising Sisko who was expecting to have his ear grabbed. Bariel tells Sisko that he never liked that practice and if he ever became Kai it would be one of the first things to go.

Absolutely none of these espers can sense a lick of spiritual power from him, but since the insanely powerful but very gullible Mob buys this completely and even credits him for teaching him how to use his own powers, most espers conclude that Reigen's just ''so'' skilled and powerful as an esper that he can effortlessly mask his aura.
