At one time, the trope was in danger of becoming a ForgottenTrope, since Toys "R" Us ceased operation in the United States late in TheNewTens. Canada, Asia and Oceania still have their stores and are still going strong, and the brand name's franchising and licensing deals (in Asia, the brand's franchiser bought the exclusive rights to the brand in the region). It was saved when Toys R Us started reopening stores in the US under new management in late 2021.

Presumably becoming a ForgottenTrope, since Toys "R" Us no longer exists... at least in the United States. Canada, the Philippines, and Japan, among other countries, still have their stores and are still going strong, and the brand name's franchising and licensing deals. Then again, there are rumors it may be re-opened in the US as Tru Kids Inc owns the brand rights in the US and Doug Putnam in Canada.
