Adding \"Samurai Jack\" entry.

to:

* SamuraiJack is shown on several occasions to be skilled with a bo staff (along with [[MultiMeleeMaster just about every other melee weapon on the face of the earth,]] but a staff is probably the second-most-common weapon he's seen using, next to his signature magic katana).

* The main character from the first ''{{Suikoden}}'' used a bo staff as his primary weapon. Jowy, the [[Childhood Friends|Childhood Friend]] of TheHero in ''SuikodenII'', uses a simple blue staff as his weapon of choice, whilst TheHero himself uses DualTonfas. Prince Freyjadour Falenas from ''SuikodenV'' used a collapsible tri-sectioned staff.

One early use of the staff being used by wizards and magic users dates back to the rediscovery of Publius Vergilius Maro (better known today as Vergil or Virgil) and the Aeneid. When the Christians took to burning all the old pagan texts they could find, they read the [[strike: Aeneid]] Eclogues and discovered several references to a prophecy about a man who would be born, descended from God, and would lead his people to new prosperity. In all likelihood this was meant to be the child of Mark Antony and Octavia (sister of Octavian/Augustus). The Christians, however, assumed that it was a reference to Jesus, and preserved it. Throughout the Middle Ages, Vergil would become known as a sort of pagan prophet. Some would even write his name Virgil, because "virga" is Latin for "staff, rod, or walking stick."

** Soon after, in a battle with the Amalekites, the Isrealites would trounce their foes as long as Moses held his staff high. They started losing when his arm got weak and droopy, so some folks got a rock for him to sit on, while his brother and another fellow helped him hold the staff up the rest of the day.

*** ** Traditionally, there is no difference between bokken techniques and quarterstaff techniques in principle- both are attempts to emulate a sword with a length of wood. The quarterstaff is weilded like a Zweihander.

** Of note: staves in WoW are quite diversified and often far from simple. Forms vary from mere gnarled wooden sticks and straight wooden staves, to crystal-tipped staves with more crystals orbiting the tip, to staves tipped with flames, and the most powerful endgame staves tend to be incredibly overcomplicated contraptions, and [[http://www.wowhead.com/item=32374# one particular staff obtained from Illidan]] is essentially a superstretched LIVING [[StarCraft Zergling]]/Felhunter hybrid made into a staff.

* Quarterstaves are Jaheira's weapon of choice in ''BaldursGate''. Due to the restrictions of her Fighter/Druid build, they are also some of the ''only'' weapons she can wield. Fortunately there are powerful staves in ''Shadows of Amn'' and an [[InfinityPlusOneSword Infinity Plus One Staff]] in ''Throne of Baal''.

* In the ''BelisariusSeries'' a new order of warrior monks is formed that uses quarterstaffs as their weapons. The reasons are mainly political. The order is to be used to fight in the streets of Alexandria against street gangs and religious fanatics. If they use swords then it will look like soldiers slaughtering unarmed civilians. However, if they use staffs then it is just another street brawl between club wielding religious factions which is a daily occurence in Alexandria. When the riots begin, the street mobs are massacred by ranks of highly disciplined and highly trained staff wielders.

* A standard-issue weapon for the Zulu Imperial Army was a staff with a wooden or metal head far smaller than that of a typical club, known to Westerners as a "knobkierie" (old Afrikaans for "walking stick with a knob on it"). It could be used as anything from a fighting staff to a light club and was famously effective as a secondary weapon to the assegai (stabbing spear). It is still used in Zulu cultural ceremonies, and to this day is a common melee weapon for home defense throughout almost all communities in South Africa. It is featured in the South African coat-of-arms.

* {{Diablo}} loves these. The first game had elaborate staves with some of them even having [[BladeOnStick blades on either end]]. Almost all of them had some powerful spells, and high melee damage. The second game, had simpler staves that provided bonuses to sorceress' skills. They also had high melee damage, but are not likely to be used in an actual fight.
