* ''Film/{{Titanic 1997}}''. Rose's hair is already partly loose, but she takes the rest of down and shakes it out in preparation for her nude painting scene.

* A quasi-parody happens in the Murder Mystery episode of ''Series/LizzieMcGuire'' when Larry starts chatting up Veruca, both of them dressed in Edwardian era clothes. Veruca shakes her hair down as some faux dramatic music plays.

* This is also frequently used in feminine hair care product (shampoo, dye, etc.) commercials, usually enhanced with CGI to produce unnaturally-perfect-looking shimmering cascades of flowing liquid beauty.
* In ''Series/CallTheMidwife'', when the young nurses go off to a dance in the first series Sister Bernadette wistfully watches them go, then returns to her room, removes her veil and cap and unpins her hair, letting it fall around her shoulders, obviously reflecting on the sacrifices she's made for her calling and wondering what might have been if she'd not taken holy orders. This is very early foreshadowing (the fourth episode of the programme!) of her storyline in the second series, where she's torn between her vows and [[spoiler:her love for Dr Turner]].
* ''Series/{{Cheers}}'' got Frasier and Lilith together with this trope. Diane asked Sam, then Dr. Sternin, for something to unstick the refrigerator door — like a hairpin. "Don't you see what these two people — who are such geniuses at romance - are trying to do is to get you to take your hair down thinking that it will stimulate me like some Pavlovian dog. So why don't you just oblige them get this silliness over with so we can get on with our lives," says Dr. Crane. Lilith unpins the tightest hairbun in professional psychology. "You mean like this?" * ''Series/{{Mad TV}}'': Season 1 featured a skit starring German supermodel Claudia Schiffer as [[Film/JamesBond Jane Bond]]. While working undercover as an [[SexySecretary office temp]], she takes out the pin that was holding up her blonde hair (complete with a dramatic slow motion shot as her hair cascades down) upon her introduction towards the villainous Dr. Boss and her assistant, Part-Time Job.

* ''Series/SavedByTheBell'': Towards the end of the Season 2 episode "From Nurse to Worse", [[HosptialHottie Nurse Jennifer]] invites Zack into her office. Upon seeing him, Jennifer is sporting a PrimAndProperBun, for which she immediately discards after she tells Zack that it's [[GettingHotInHere warm in the room]].

** Homura Akemi opens her braided twintails during a {{Flashback}} when she [[spoiler:undergoes a major and extended CynicismCatalyst, transforming her into TheStoic {{Determinator}} she is in the present timeline, [[ThatManIsDead with even deeper loathing of her old, weak self]]]].

* In ''Film/LordOfTheRings'', Eowyn, who was disguised as a man, confronts the Nazgul, who says "[[NoManOfWomanBorn No man can kill me]]." She takes her helmet off, revealing her hair, and says "I am no man."

* ''Disney/{{Mulan}}''

** Chi Fu also forcefully pulls her hair out of its bun [[spoiler: when he reveals she is a woman]].
* In ''Disney/TheLittleMermaidIIReturnToTheSea'', Ariel wears her hair tied up in a bun whenever she is on dry land, symbolizing how much more stern and strict she is. When Triton transforms her back into a mermaid, her hair comes undone and falls loose freely. After the ordeal is over, Ariel is shown wearing her hair down as a human to reflect her change in character.

* Some versions of "Literature/{{Rapunzel}}" say that Rapunzel's long golden hair is braided 90% of the time, and it's only untied when Mother Gothel or the prince climb up it. [[Disney/{{Tangled}} The Disney version]] has Rapunzel's hair completely loose all the time, returning to being a braid only when she and Flynn briefly return to her home kingdom before Gothel captures her again.

* Parodied in ''Fanfic/FarceOfTheThreeKingdoms'', when Guan Yu shakes his ''beard'' loose (to prove his identity).

* A variation in ''{{Disney/Frozen}}''. Elsa's hair is up in a bun to reflect her strict and isolated lifestyle. When she breaks free, she unties the hair. It falls into a long braid rather than loose but the effect is the same. She also brushes her bangs out of her eyes

Imagine this picture: a woman with her hair tied up in and held in place only with a pin or some kind of stick, usually as a PrimAndProperBun. She pulls it out of her hair and shakes it out, allowing it to fall down freely. This is sometimes accompanied by a DramaticWind.

Compare LettingHerHairDown when a woman is shown wearing her hair down or looser to show how she's relaxing as a character, and SlipknotPonytail when the hair gradually becomes undone on its own. Sometimes overlaps with BeautifulAllAlong. Could be seen as a sister trope to the ImportantHaircut without any actual hair cutting. If it's done for FanService then it'll usually be accompanied by a HairFlip.

* Happens in ''Disney/{{Mulan}}'' at the end of the "Reflection" song where Mulan slowly removes all traces of the makeover she got for her meeting with the Matchmaker.

* In ''Film/MrAndMrsSmith'' Jane goes to see a mark pretending to be a prostitute with her hair pinned up. The first part of the seduction is shaking her hair out.

* ''Series/TheHandmaidsTale'': Offred does this [[spoiler:before having sex with Nick. (Handmaids must wear bonnets at all time.)]]

** Kyouko pulls out her ribbon, letting her hair loose during the fight against Oktavia ([[spoiler:Sayaka's Witch form]]) in Episode 9.
