* In ''Literature/HeavenOfficialsBlessingTianGuanCiFu'', Xie Lian, [[KingIncognito going incognito among mortals]], is confronted by a pack of hungry ghosts during Zhongyuan Festival and is preparing to defend his mortal companions when the ghosts cut and run. Assuming that this trope is in effect, he looks behind him, sees his companion San Lang who congratulates him on scaring the ghosts away, and concludes that the ghosts must have seen through his disguise.
