The trope comes from a long-standing tradition among fashionistas that red hair contrasts best against green or light blue attire, which is one reason redheads are encouraged to wear green to make a striking visual appearance. Everybody loves redheaded characters, in particular the [[FieryRedhead feisty ones]], whether they be [[RedHeadedHero heroic]], [[EvilRedhead evil]] or just [[HeroesWantRedheads love interests]]. And in fiction, there's a high chance that you might find a redhead wearing something green. Why? Because red is green's complementary color; therefore, they go well together. Bonus points if the character in question has [[GreenThumb earth-themed]] [[ElementalPowers abilities]].
