** Firefly, one of the second-tier members of the ''Franchise/{{Batman}}'' RoguesGallery, is this. He's an arsonist for hire, but the money is secondary to the fires themselves -- he actually sees beautiful women dancing in the flames. Before he turned to crime, he worked in pyrotechnics for movie SFX. He was run out of the business when he was a used too much fuel for a stunt with ExplodingBarrels, leaving the lead actress severely burned on 80% of her body... and he asked if he could keep the footage from that take.

The History of the Seattle Mariners opens with a story of how a pyromaniac led to MLB arriving in Seattle for the first time.

Added DiffLines:

* In a crossover with real life, ''WebVideo/TheHistoryOfTheSeattleMariners'' points out that the history of UsefulNotes/MajorLeagueBaseball in UsefulNotes/{{Seattle}} could be traced back to a pyromaniac (or a serial arsonist). After one Robert Bruce Driscoll was caught setting a fire in 1935, he either confessed to or was linked to a total of 140 fires in that decade. One of the fires he confessed to setting destroyed Dugdale Park, a [[UsefulNotes/MinorLeagueBaseball minor-league]] ballpark. A few years later, beer magnate Emil Sick built a new ballpark on the Dugdale Park site, which would become known as Sick's Stadium. Decades later, that stadium would be the bargaining chip the city would use to attract an MLB expansion team. The city eventually got its expansion team in 1969, the Seattle Pilots, but the Pilots lasted only one season before departing to become the Milwaukee Brewers. (The Mariners would finally arrive in 1977, by which time the Kingdome had been built.)
