* In the ''movie'' ''Disney/{{Aladdin}}'', the guards were actually fairly useful, even managing to catch Aladdin once. In the ''[[RecycledTheSeries series]]'', they're another story. Aladdin solves all of Agrabah's problems, while the guards seldom do anything and sometimes even get in the way. The opening of the episode "Black Sand" is probably the best example of this. All four guards fail at catching a tiny flying eel. Subverted with Razoul when he's given ADayInTheLimelight.

** Aliens raid the town and start ravaging it? Quick! Let's look through the neighborhoods and arrest every sexually active teenager we find!
** There's an obviously distraught girl walking in the rain with her head down. Possible rape victim. Did we arrest her or her sister earlier? Let's just arrest her now and ask questions later!
** The girls' [[PromotionToParent sister-turned-caregiver]] is mutilated almost completely beyond recognition in a senseless murder? Let's wait until the house smells of death a full day later before we ''even bother'' to investigate!

* DoubleSubversion in ''VideoGame/LEGOIsland''. When the Brickster escapes jail, the police officers Nick and Laura Brick take part in the chase to catch him, removing blockades and investigating the helicopter pieces along the way, and are ultimately the ones who arrest him once again. That does not change the fact that the Brickster was escape from jail so easily and steal the police helicopter, or the fact that most of the work to catch the Brickster once again is done by Pepper Roni, ''a pizza delivery boy'', instead.
** Discussed in brutalmoose's review of ''LEGO Island'':
-->'''brutalmoose''': But don't worry, though. Even though I just released the only criminal on LEGO Island, the police are basically like, "Oh, s'all good."
-->'''Infomaniac''': So we need someone to race over there! Someone who can use a vehicle that can travel on roads and paths, over ramps, and in a jiffy!
-->'''brutalmoose''': Oh, you mean a motorcycle.
-->'''Infomaniac''': A skateboard, perhaps!
-->'''brutalmoose''': [[FlatWhat What?]] There are two people on motorcycles right there! [''arrows point at Nick and Laura, both riding motorcycles''] But no, the general consensus is that a skateboard would be a much, much better idea. [[SurroundedByIdiots Everyone here? Idiots.]]
** It's even worse in the sequels. In ''LEGO Island 2: The Brickster's Revenge'', Nick's only role is granting Pepper permission to use the police helicopter. In ''Island Xtreme Stunts'', Nick does some investigation into the Brickster's activities. In both games, Laura does nothing, and Pepper is ultimately the one who has to do ''all'' the work catching the Brickster.

Read some of the other examples. These are works in which there ARE police, but they\'re useless. DARPG has NO police to be useless due to its apocalyptic setting.

If we start listing apocalypses as justified examples, then that would probably make this page much longer than it needs to be. Besides, there\'s no major crime, murder, mystery, etc. that police would normally solve but don\'t in DARPG, which is what this trope is about.

** I always thought that it was implied that he was slightly framed by the Chicago police more than that they were incompetent.
** To be honest, his wife's 911 call did a good job of saying her husband was the one who attacked her. I can believe that that call was all the proof the cops needed in their minds, and all his tales of a mysterious killer who left no traces was just him making stuff up to cover for himself. The real question is just how the real killer knew that's what her dying words were going to be and didn't hang up until she got them out.
*** Her 911 call clearly started with "There's someone in my house", as in an intruder, not her husband. At the very least, it should have provided reasonable doubt for Kimble.
