A particular style of roleplaying that grew ''on'' forums[[note]]specifically, {{Imageboards}} with anonymized userbases, which made it impossible to keep track of which user controls what character[[/note]] is the ForumQuest, where a single shared character is controlled by anyone who wants to post a potential action that character could take, with the GM typically accepting the one with the most votes. This style involves a lot less work and upkeep on the part of the GM compared to a more traditional RPG, and it's particularly resilient to players entering and leaving the game because as long as there's at least one person interacting with the GM, the game can continue the same as though there were dozens.

** ''Roleplay/DinoAttackRPG'', hosted on Website/BZPower.com, ended on December 21, 2012 after seven years of a single continuous story. More remarkable is the fact that it was inspired by a half-year Lego line and was kept alive by less then a dozen players.
