** And that's only if your puberty is "normal." If you're a girl with PCOS or endometriosis, puberty is only the gateway to a lifelong struggle with pain and health problems. If you're a boy with androgen-sensitive epilepsy, you'll soon have your first seizure. If you're spectacularly unlucky, you can develop ovarian or testicular cancer even before you're fully developed. If you're intersex or transgender, it will be an uncomfortable, embarrassing, and potentially mentally scarring tp the degree of hellish experience if you're still unsure and/or you are being raised by parents that don't believe people can be intersex or transgender.

* Puberty, on both an emotional and physical basis. Physically, there's everything from hormonal changes that can lead to quite a few issues (everything from PMS/PMDD in girls to aggression and violence in boys, intense hunger combined with either rapid weight gain or the inability to gain weight in both sexes, voice changes in both sexes with girls becoming higher and softer voiced on average and boys generally developing a cracking, squeaky voice that hopefully to them deepens with time, and emotional/mental issues such as depression or anxiety) to the obvious physical changes of menstruation and breast development in girls and sudden, unwanted erections in boys. Oh, and then there's just the "normal" things that can go wrong, such as a sole ovarian cyst in girls or spermatic cord/testicular torsion in boys - both of which tend to happen most in puberty when the organs involved are still growing.

* Both gaining and losing weight. Weight gain often sneaks up on most people who are the most prone to it, and it literally can take only a few months to go from "healthy" to "obese" and a few more from "obese" to "morbidly obese." While gaining weight itself often isn't very painful (if it was, it wouldn't be so easy to do so quickly), what it does to your general state of fitness is - you will become less capable of things you were easily capable of before, short of breath faster, in pain faster, and that's not even starting on the emotional damage of being a "fatty" or even an "ex-fatty" from social ostracism. Losing weight involves working out, often until you are in pain or past it if you weren't fit before, diets that are often unappealing at best and starvation at worst (if healthy doesn't work), and if nothing else works, medications with severe side effects, liquid diets, and stomach stapling or banding surgery.

* In The Legend of Zelda fanfic Blood and Spirit, [[spoiler: Link is forced to suffer this gradually throughout the plot of the story, due to his corruption at Majora's hands in a variety of ways, which is slowly turning him into another copy of the Fierce Deity. On the physical side, almost every time the hero enters into a spell of corruption, the chest wound he received in the battle against the original Fierce Deity that started the corruption in the first place reopens, causing him considerable pain. But even worse than that is the mental/emotional side of things. Not only does Majora constantly torment him and threaten him inside his own head, but the demon also vows that it will force Link himself to kill Zelda and everyone else he cares about once the hero has fully succumbed to the corruption and even goes as far to say that this has always been the hero's destiny since he was born. It's no wonder that both Majora and the corruption are revealed as two of the only things Link truly fears.]]

* In Dragon Ball Z, Frieza's transformations in particular tended to involve a lot of screaming and incredibly painful-looking contortions. Buu's final transformation consisted of nothing but standing around and screaming for a very long time, but that may have been less physical pain and more that he was devolving from a fairly intelligent AxCrazy to a mindless EldritchAbomination.

** Adding to this, Koji and Koichi most likely go through the most painful transformations of them all. This is because the beast spirits do bend their bones, flesh, and bodies to match their evolution. Everyone else is human shaped while they have to suffer a complete bone re-structure.

* The poor title character of the dark and edgy KamenRider deconstruction film Film/ShinKamenRiderPrologue suffers from this. Rather than simply having the 'armor' appear over his body, Shin's body actually changes, distorts and morphs into the Shin Kamen Rider. This is only done twice in the film, and is extremely painful for the guy (also leaving him naked for some reason); specific super-creepy examples include his forehead splitting open four ways at once, and his jaw splitting in half. They had to tone the costume down a bit for his appearance in KamenRiderDecade, and even then he was pretty scary-looking.
