* The alien ships in ''Film/IndependenceDay''. An interesting bit of FridgeLogic in this one - the ship's center is hovering a teeny bit over the mast of the Empire State Building. That would mean the spaceship was scraping the tops off of the World Trade Center towers.

* The pilot of ''Series/StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds'' has Captain Pike violating the Prime Directive (technically, General Order 1, as the name "Prime Directive" will be given to it only at the end of the episode) in order to force two factions on a pre-warp planet to make peace before they destroy one another. When the president refuses to listen, he orders the ''Enterprise'' into the atmosphere, and the shocked natives see the starship floating above them, giving them a sense of perspective.

When the president refuses to listen, he orders the ''Enterprise'' into the atmosphere, and the shocked natives see the starship floating above them, giving them a sense of perspective. Pike avoids court martial because [[spoiler:the natives were already interfered with when their telescopes picked up the Battle of Xahea at the end of season 2 of ''Series/StarTrekDiscovery'' and used that knowledge to build a warp bomb. Since anything having to do with Control and the ''Discovery'' is classified, Starfleet can't acknowledge Pike's violation without revealing the coverup]].

** "Scorched Earth" plays it straight. The entire plot of the episode revolves around convincing the OminousFloatingSpaceship not to terraform a resettled civilization out of existence (not that the AI commanding it wants to, it's just too far into the process to start again somewhere else, so stopping would doom the species in hibernation on board).

* In the ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'' episode "Blink of an Eye", Voyager gets stuck in orbit above a planet on which time moves differently: days pass for Voyager while from the surface it appears to hover for millennia. Complicating matters is the fact that Voyager's presence is causing quakes. Initially the society restructures its religion around "The Sky Ship", and then, as its technology improves, tries to contact it. The planet eventually gets to the point where it can't survive any more quakes and attacks Voyager. An astronaut is able to make it to Voyager, learn its true nature and return (decades having passed on the planet) to convince his people to pursue a peaceful solution.
