** Leviticus Cornwall bears similarities to a number of 19th-century robber-barons, such as Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and John D. Rockefeller. His hiring of the Pinkertons reflects both Edward Henry Harriman of Union Pacific hiring them to hunt down the Wild Bunch. Henry Frick is another likely inspiration, being a business man who hired the Pinkertons to keep employees in line.

* ''VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption'' and its sequel have a number of examples, not surprising given their setting:
**[[MadScientist Marko Dragic]] is a pretty obvious expy of UsefulNotes/NikolaTesla, being an immigrant from the Balkans with a penchant for electrical experimentation (sometimes taking it to insane levels).

Henry Frick is another likely inspiration, being a business man who hired the Pinkertons to keep employees in line.
** Colonel Henry Favours is very much similar to John Chivington, perpetrator of the Sand Creek Massacre. Chivington actively worsened relations with the local tribes, committed atrocities, and was likely driven in part by a desire for glory, similar to Favours. Both also were nearing the end of their respective careers, Chivington's commission as colonel almost being over and Favours being near retirement age. Favours's attempt on Monroe's life is likely inspired by claims that Chivington orchestrated the death of Captain Silas Soule, who refused to participate at Sand Creek and testified against him.
***He also likely was inspired by General Custer's aggressive behavior as well. However, Custer and Chivington both contrast with Favours by having distinguished themselves in battle in the Civil War, compared with Favours who is largely seen as a joke by his contemporaries.
** Augustin Allende is a mix of figures. His name suggests Augustin Pinochet and Salvador Allende, Chilean leaders on opposite sides of the political spectrum. He is also similar to Victoriano Huerta, who not only took the country over by force during the time period the game takes place, but also was distrusted enough that many factions formed an EnemyMine against him. His behavior of being a brutal tyrant that has women brought to his house to rape evokes the likes of Lavrentiy Beria and Uday Hussein.
** The Lemoyne Raiders are not too different from the various Reconstruction-era militant groups such as the Red Shirts and White Man's League (the latter even fought and had a monument built in New Orleans, which Saint Denis is based on) that often terrorized the South and fought against Union and Republican rule.
*** Likewise, fellow gang Murfree Brood is partly based on Sawney Bean's cannibal clan.
** Randall Forrester is likely based off of cannibalistic serial killer Boone Helm.

* The seasons in ''VideoGame/ConquerorsBlade'' are all based closely on historical wars or armies, usually with only minor changes to names of people and places. Thus we have clones of Suleiman the Magnificent (Fatiyh Suleiman), Joan of Arc (Gabrielle-Maelys), Harald Hardrada (Harald the Slaughterer), King Edward I of England (King Edmund of Loegria), and Robin Hood (the Wildwood Ranger).
** And then there's the Sanada clan from the ''Sengoku'' season - ''whose names aren't even changed at all''.

It's been decided that Manhua and Manhwa examples shall be placed into their own folders. Moving example to the correct section.

* ''Manhwa/ShinAngyoOnshi'': Most of the characters are named after and based on figures from across Korean history, not just the 18th Century the series is set in. Most of the time the author simply removes the family names and combines the personal names into one -- such as Munsu (Bak Mun-su), Wonsul (Gim Won-sul) and Yeongsil (Jang Yeong-sil) to name a few.
