* Grigori Rasputin was supposedly poisoned, shot, beaten, and stabbed in an assassination attempt before being bundled into a carpet and thrown into the river where, it was claimed he actually died of drowning. However, according to his Wikipedia entry, new evidence claims there might not have been any poison in his body and the bullet wound to his head should have killed him instantly.

* ''Made of Diamond'': Way, way beyond SuperToughness. The power of the ImplacableMan and TheJuggernaut, nothing does anything to this being. [[TheFrantics Not a boot to the head]], or [[ImmuneToBullets a bullet to]] [[EyeScream the eye]], or [[DropTheHammer a sledgehammer to]] [[GroinAttack the groin]]. Sufficiently strong characters ''might'' be able to [[BlownAcrossTheRoom knock them through a wall or mountain]], but just one hit like that won't have any lasting effect. This is generally what people first think of when referring to this trope.

* Parodied in ''WesternAnimation/DrawnTogether'', by the character Captain Hero, especially in an episode in which he and Foxxy Love go through an extreme form of BDSM relationship: because Captain Hero was indestructible, Foxxy could act out her most violent desires without fear of injuring him permanently (this disregarding the fact that ''all'' of the characters in the series die on a frequent basis, only to return shortly afterwards as if nothing had happened).

* ''[[PhysicalGod God]]'': Face it. Sometimes you [[CompleteImmortality CAN'T]] [[KillTheGod kill a god]]. It's physically and theologically impossible. However other gods can sometimes kill gods, so they do technically fit the "nigh" part.

* ''Made Of Air'': Going the opposite direction, there doesn't seem to be something to fight... but that "something" can fight ''you''. Either they have the power of SuperSmoke or the IntangibleMan completely at will so that you can't attack them, or they may [[ElementalShapeshifter exist in some form]] that makes direct confrontation just not possible. (A [[AstralProjection possessing spirit]], for example, who [[BodySurf jumps from body to body]].)

* The titular creature in the horror parody ''MonsterInTheCloset'': it emerges unscathed from an artillary bombardment, being electrocuted and shot with a prototype laser. (It turns out it can only be destroyed when [[spoiler: all closets in the world are destroyed]].)

* In ''Literature/FineStructure'', the Powers are all of the "made of diamond" version. It takes a diamond-tipped syringe to break Arika's skin, and even not even that will work on Jason. But both of them pale in compairison to Anne Poole, who is possibly the single most indestructible object in existence. [[spoiler:When she gets thrown into a black hole, ''[[DivideByZero the Universe breaks before she does.]]'']]

* An Asura player character will sometimes reference this trope almost exactly, saying "I'm nigh invincible!" whenever they get a protection buff.

** Bowser is absolutely ridiculous even ''without'' the Star Rod. Throughout his long villainous career, he's survived lava, bottomless pits, more lava (this time getting his skin boiled off ''and'' keeping on going without it), being ''thrown through a star'', and ''being smashed by an asteroid '''into a black hole.''''' He always gets back up in time for the next game.

* Splendid the flying squirrl from HappyTreeFriends is practically [[NoSell immunue to anything that can kill a regular character]]. This is most prominent in "Breaking Wind" where he survives ''an explosion that temporarily destroys the entire planet''! In fact, his only official death was caused by KryptoniteFactor.

* In VideoGame/TeamFortress2 TheMedic can do this; if he managed to heal enough without dying he can make himself and his healing target invulnerable for about ten seconds. A good medic with fast fingers can constantly move his medi-beam to make a good quarter of his team invulnerable at once. Obviously, it’s a good uber-charge can be a game changer.

* The eromakasi (eaters of light) in ''Carnivores of Light and Darkness'', ''Into Thinking Kingdoms'', and the ''Journey of the Catechist'' series in general (by AlanDeanFoster) can only be killed by eromakadi, because they are basically mist, and need to be sucked in. The most powerful mage in the world has two of them as bodyguards. That isn't the only nigh invincible creature around. The wall, a several mile long wall that can walk is also next to invincible, with the main characters just running under it.
