Nuked a giant natterfest that seemed like it didn\'t establish anything.

* Not sure if this is an inversion, but- Sweden, during WorldWar2. They were neutral, but they defended themselves from everyone who trespassed, including Allied bombers flying over their border to attack Germany. It wasn't until they succeeded in shooting down a New Zealand Lancaster, killing all but one crew member, that they decided to stop shooting at the Allies (not sure if this applied to the Germans, though).
** Pretty sure this didn't apply to Germans. When my grandfather was young, the War was still ongoing and a train full of German soldiers stopped in their village (population: 140). People even came and chatted with the soldiers. Some moths later, a British (I think) air plane crashed nearby. These events was of course the most exiting things that had ever happened there.
*** I'd say Sweden was a subversion of this. Sweden had lots of oppurtinities were they had both reason and possibility to go to war. The brother nation Finland is attacked by the "Evil Russian", angering essentially every non-communist? Sweden sends aid and a few volunteers but refrains from military action. The british contemplate invading neutral Norway? Sweden stays silent. Germany demands to be allowed to freighter troops and material, creating the Midsummer Crisis, were Sweden could have said no - many urged them to do this - and resist the Germans. But no. Swedish neutrality was what was important - Whatever the cost.
**** Oddly, Finland was something of a subversion of the subversion, in that they promptly declared themselves 'non-combatant', but, notably, not actually neutral. In practice, of course, this didn't mean all that much beyond an official blind eye to Swedes going off to fight for Finland, up to and including donating a fighter squadron. Sweden did veer close to being... slightly partisan... at some other points. For example, while military force never was used, Sweden helped set up 'police training camps' for exile Norwegians in Sweden.
**** Sweden had very good reasons for not getting involved in the war, most of them being that Sweden's armed forces were crap. And by "crap" I mean NO current-generation planes, NO tanks, and the standard infantry rifle was a breech-loader. People who owned hunting rifles were encouraged to bring them when they joined the armed forces, since they would be better than government issue. Germany and Britain could probably have had Sweden by the nadgers in less than a week. Germany was more of an immediate threat, and there was a large and vocal pro-German (though not necessarily pro-Nazi) minority in Sweden. Hence, Sweden had every reason to suck up to Germany. Was it morally defensible? Probably not. Was it reasonable? Yes.
**** To blame a country because it's government cared about it's citizens interest's smacks of MoralMyopia. At the very least it is morally defensible for Sweeden to desire not to subject it's people to the rigors of war. It is simply not heroic. And America and Britain at least had far more resources then Sweeden and thus come off ill, blaming it.

* This happened twice in the TransformersAnimated cartoon.
** First there was when the new and naïve bot Wreckgar came online. The heroes act like a bunch of jerks and Wreckgar starts helping the villains, albeit not really deliberately.
** The second time was almost the exact same scenario. Two Contructocons named Mix-Master and Scrapper come alive and befriend Bulkhead. Bulkhead invites them to their hideout, but Optimus Prime acts like a Jerkass and gives them a rather cold reception. They eventually join the Decepticons after Megatron treats them far better than Optimus Prime ever did.
*** It also didn't help that after Mix-Master and Scrapper lost their memory of Bulkhead and the Autobots, Bulkhead decided to teach them a lesson and scared them away. That wasn't exactly the best second first impression to have made.
