* This seems to be the default alignment for members of the Batman Bat-Family. Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, and Tim Drake all potentially qualify, motivated most by a desire to help people. Some, though, tend to veer off elsewhere, as with LawfulGood Cassandra Cain, ChaoticGood Stephanie Brown, ChaoticNeutral post-FaceHeelTurn Jason Todd, and TrueNeutral / ChaoticNeutral Damien Wayne, and these ones tend to be noticeably more arms-length (and, coincidentally, are all the offspring of villains). Bats himself swings between LawfulGood and ChaoticGood, DependingOnTheWriter.

turns out that's more chaotic good than neutral

* Michael on BurnNotice definitely fits this alignment. He'll break laws and hurt people (innocent or no) if it means his goal of overall good can be accomplished. He only directly kills if he absolutely has to but he'd never kill an innocent person.

If you have a difficulty deciding which alignment a good-aligned character belongs to, the main difference between LawfulGood, NeutralGood and ChaoticGood is not their devotion to good, but the methods they believe are best to promote it:

* Even though there are some situations where they can't always use this method, LawfulGood characters believe the best way is to have a specific, strict code of conduct, whether self-imposed or codified as a law. Their first impulse when making a moral decision is to refer back to this code; those with externally imposed systems (codes of laws, hierarchies, etc.) will try to work within the system when those systems go wrong. Depending on whether they are more Lawful or more Good, they will either refuse to break the code even though it would hurt someone, or else break it only very reluctantly, and only when it would hurt someone if they kept their code. LawfulGood characters have to be very good at TakingAThirdOption.
* NeutralGood characters are indifferent to OrderVersusChaos, and their only interest is in doing good. They will use whatever means will promote the most good, whether that means tearing down a code of laws, following a code of laws, creating an orderly society, causing the breakdown of harmful kinds of order, or staying away from society altogether. Their only goal is to do good, full stop.
* Most chaotic good characters don't constantly break the law, but they cannot see much value in laws (or, for weaker-CCGs, do not see the value in laws that do not function solely to punish evil). They believe that their own consciences are their best guides, and that tying themselves to any given code of conduct would be limiting their own ability to do good. They do not get along with anyone who tries to instill any kind of order over the ChaoticGood character or others, believing these people to be restricting the freedom of others; however, most ChaoticGood characters will respect the right of others to impose strong codes of conduct on themselves. ChaoticGood characters often focus very strongly on individual rights and freedoms, and will strongly resist any form of oppression of themselves or anyone else.

** The Big Three (male) heroes all seem to be linked to one of the goods, although there's a good deal of ambiguity. Perrin, despite his "simple blacksmith" protests, seems very fond of an ordered society, which dovetails in nicely with the pack mentality of his wold friends. Matt, of course, as the LoveableRogue, would be the representative of chaos in the group, although this gets tempered quite a bit as the series goes on.

...we seem to like the same characters. Actually, I like Akane and I think she gets an absoutely horrible treatment in fanfic. But this is still a really unncessary Wall Of Text. The tropes pages aren't for making argumentative essays.

** Tsundere Akane Tendo generally leans towards NeutralGood behavior (vainly striving to emulate both her fathers samurai heritage and her eldest sister's kindness and traditionally femininine skills), and being respectful of authority figures until they prove unworthy of that respect or willing to bend rules if she absolutely must, but whether this gives her this alignment, or she is more ChaoticNeutral or a possible "average" of ChaoticGood is a BaseBreaker issue. On one hand, she is a generally pleasant, helpful, compassionate, naive, hard-working, idealistic, and very heroic person, admired by her peers for her general demeanor, who is willing to forgive extreme wrongdoings (for example, return unprovoked attempted murder with saving Shampoo's life, or similarly helps and is compassionate towards Taro after he holds her hostage) and she has regularly been willing to sacrifice herself for the safety of others, most frequently Ranma himself, such as putting her life at risk to find a cure for Ranma's ModeLock, or even consciously trading her own for his through magical items when he had been lethally poisoned. On the other hand, she can also be stubborn, self-centered and quite volatile. After Ranma and her big sister Nabiki each separately makie fun of or belittling her, Akane unthinkingly destroys the balcony, and Ranma saves Nabiki from the fall, whereas his fiancee sprains her ankle. Akane had been very afraid for Nabiki's safety, but still felt sore from feeling like an unwanted joke, and makes a careless insincere statement that 'he could take Nabiki instead if he liked her so much', which Nabiki uses as manipulation to transfer the engagement instead. The biggest contention is that she is easily set off when Ranma is either found in extremely compromising NotWhatItLooksLike scenarios, or he repeatedly stomps on her sense of self-worth and exertions by insensitively, arrogantly, or gloatingly insulting her most sensitive spots and manic efforts over and over. It is understandable that she gets upset about this, and she does seem to have some form of autistic awkwardness with figuring out or difficulty managing her feelings combined with a mood-disorder, as her volatile feelings are quite genuine and not so easy to dismiss as 'spiels' or tantrums, but the extremely violent reactions usually definitely seem excessive... although it is a comedy setting with superhumanly strong characters so it is exaggerated for comedic effect. Hence instead of a slap it's a fridge in the face or punching him towards the horizon, but she also has a tendency to unthinkingly lash out verbally when this happens, and then recurrently feels ashamed and apologises if she is shown to have been wrong. She also makes an extreme effort with her cooking, but as with various other things Akane gets so worked up about succeeding with everything, living up to high standards, and stop feeling worthless that she turns too tense to develop any skills or managing to focus on and understand the recipes , so it's usually very inedible. Ranma's consistent means of dealing with it is not exactly to "politely encourage her to relax, help her to learn to do better, and better luck next time", it's usually in the vein of calling it uneataable slop or toxic waste, and rudely running away. However, after some humiliating instruction from Ranma's mother Nodoka, the particular problem of not tasting her food and making it downright horrible is actually something Akane has worked off by the Ryugensawa forest arc. She is here very aware of her shortcomings, does taste her food, can make simple dishes such as curry, tofu, or tea, and is surprised and overjoyed if anyone likes it. She is still not a good cook but no longer a dangerous one. Regardless, some fans consider her an inverted JerkWithAHeartOfGold, meaning someone who is only faking all of her good intents and displays her true nature only when thoroughly upset. The BelligerentSexualTension in combination with his constant belittling insults also make her behave much worse towards her fiance, Ranma Saotome, than anyone else. For comparison, in the storyline covering Mousse's return to Japan, she forgives him in a matter of moments and offers to help him try and get Shampoo to fall in love with him -- despite the fact he just kidnapped her and threatened to give her a Jusenkyo duck curse a few minutes ago. Later that storyline, when Ranma dislikes the idea of throwing a fight to let Mousse seem strong enough for Shampoo (who Ranma considers as a murderous pest) to accept him, she reminds Ranma that he might get rid of of Shampoo's cat form following him around, which is extra bothersome given his intense ailurophobia, and he goes along with it until Mousse decides to to use killing combat. Whether Akane's argument qualifies as morally offensive or not is a YourMileageMayVary. Others simply don't like her emotional naivete.

** Akane Tendo's status as NeutralGood or ChaoticNeutral is a BaseBreaker issue. One one hand, she is a generally pleasant, helpful, compassionate, naive, hard-working, idealistic, and very heroic person, admired by her peers for her general demeanor, who is willing to forgive extreme wrongdoings (return unprovoked attempted murder with saving Shampoo's life) and she has regularly been willing to sacrifice herself for the safety of others, most frequently Ranma himself, such as putting her life at risk to find a cure for Ranma's ModeLock, or even consciously trading her own for his through magical items when he had been lethally poisoned. It is understandable that she gets upset about this, and she does seem to have some form of autistic awkwardness with figuring out or difficulty managing her feelings combined with a mood-disorder, as her volatile feelings are quite genuine and not so easy to dismiss as 'spiels' or tantrums, but the extremely violent reactions usually definitely seem excessive... although it is a comedy setting so it is exaggerated for comedic effect. Hence instead of a slap it's a table or punching him towards the horizon.

An lot of inaccurate (no knife-threatening), or Accentuate The Negative information here. I've tried to make it more accurate.

** Akane Tendo's status as NeutralGood or ChaoticNeutral is a BaseBreaker issue. One one hand, she is a generally pleasant person, admired by her peers for her general demeanor, who is willing to forgive wrongdoings (particularly those not commited by Ranma) and she has been willing to sacrifice herself on several occasions, such as putting her life at risk to find a cure for Ranma's ModeLock. On the other hand, she can also be selfish, stubborn, self-centered and quite volatile, to the point she once broke off her engagement with Ranma because he saved Nabiki from a fall and then pointed out he had to do so because Nabiki was a "normal girl" who lacked Akane's martial arts training... despite the fact she had been afraid for Nabiki's safety for those very same reasons mere moments ago. The biggest contention is how easy she is to set off when Ranma Saotome is involved, and the JerkAss extents she can go to when angered, particularly by Ranma. Some notable examples include threatening him with a knife for an innocuous comment she misconstrued as a comment on her cooking ability, throwing a tantrum after he politely excused himself from a meal to go training and she found she had, as usual, ruined it, and at least once not only ignored his attempt to explain how something was NotWhatItLooksLike (specifically, why he was apparently groping Hinako but deliberately remembered him as the villain in that exchange afterwards.

I guess you is mistaking The Messiah with Messianic Achetype. The Messiah means a character EXTREMELY good, not the messiah of some religion.

Others, such as TheMessiah, can vary between LawfulGood and NeutralGood.
