As a child he had a thing for Shakespeare, which he channels now into lifelike, shape-changing robots based on Shakespear's characters. On a few occasions he uses them as survey drones, and the first vision of the octospiders comes through one of them. Nicole herself engineers her way out of certain situations; this is what she likes about Richard though, and he does it better than her.
