* In ''OrderOfTheStick'' Vaarsuvius executes Kubota, the SmugSnake responsible for the Azure City fleet's trouble for months, had numerous ships attacked and the citizens murdered in an attempt to usurp power, and just finished murdering his loyal ninja minion. After getting captured by Elan, he was bragging about how he was going to get away with it all when V pops in and disintegrates him. Puts that jackass in his place, right? Weeeeeell... Turns out, V didn't know Kubota had done anything worth vaporizing over. Based on a few snippets of conversation and mostly the fact that he was tied up. Makes you wonder if V would have done the same thing to a drunken party-goer into bondage that Elan was escorting home.

So he [[LastStand charges]] at the Big Bad's army armed only with a broken sword. She prepares to jump through the skylight so as to crash the [[TheOmniscientCouncilofVagueness The Omniscient Council Of Vagueness']] meeting. He's about to lay a can of whoop-ass [[DeTerminator after getting beaten to a pulp]]. She's about to [[LetsGetDangerous show]] the baddies why she's got the reputation for badassery she has.

A NegatedMomentOfAwesome is when a character is about to get their CrowningMomentOfAwesome, only for it to never come. The CMOA in question ends up accomplishing [[AllForNothing nothing]], [[NiceJobBreakingItHero making things worse]], or, if the CMOA was a hero apparently emerging victorious in battle, the enemy gets back up and just completely turns the tables back on them. Compare DethroningMomentOfSuck, HopeSpot, and WhatCouldHaveBeen. Contrast with CrowningMomentOfAwesome and MissedMomentOfAwesome. Is surprisingly common in [[DarkerandEdgier more cynical]] works or even modern comedies poking fun at tropes and various cliches.

Then SamuelLJackson begins this rousing speech, it's the turning point of the movie...aaand then [[spoiler: a shark jumps out of the water and eats him]].

*For this troper, Orihime from ''{{Bleach}}'' had one early in Soul Society against the 4th seat of Squad 7. Picture this: A soul reaper knocks Uryu off the roof(removing him from the battle) then turns to Orihime, who dodges with ease. Uryu tells her to run but she steels herself, resolve eyes and all, and fires Tsubaki with all the badassitude of any of the FiveManBand. I was expecting her to take his arm off, order him to run away, and then help Uryu up. Instead, Tsubaki is injuried and Orihime has the DistressBall glued to her hands until she confronts Yammy, which is the same event repeated. She was a promising ActionGirl, but gets treated as the TheLoad by her own teammates and evetually sees herself as this.

* How on Earth Asuka's battle vs. the Mass Production [=EVAs=] in ''[[NeonGenesisEvangelion End of Evangelion]]'' did not end up as the first entry in this category is utterly beyond This Troper.
