Unfortunately, it has mutated, and rapidly ages and kills any animal organism it comes into contact with. By the near-end of the episode, the scientist who takes an interest in it foolishly has a dog with her in the laboratory. The dog knocks the canister containing the genetic material out of her hand, which then smashes open on the floor. To prevent the virulent material from spreading, the laboratory self-destruct countdown activates, with MacGyver and Pete needing to make a hasty exit. They encounter problems in trying to use the one elevator up to the surface, but Macgyver is able to jerry-rig a method of powering the elevator. They get out of the elevator shaft just as the self-destruct initiates, destroying and burying the laboratory.
