** At the beginning of the series, there has been a GreatOffscreenWar that has lead to Avon Barksdale and his crew in control of the Westside housing projects. After Avon goes to jail, and Stringer loses their old drug connection, they start losing their grip, leading to other crews muscling in on their territory, which leads to a very anti-climactic shootout between Bodie's crew and the newcomers, where both gangs ATeamFiring fail to even scratch the other side, but a stray bullet [[MurderByMistake hits and kills a small kid]], pissing off Stringer Bell, who explains that the police attention from killing a kid is bad for business. [[ProfessionalKiller Brother Mouzone]] is also introduced when Avon uses his contacts to hire him as muscle to hold on to the towers during what he assumes is a takeover from Prop Joe's Eastside gang, unaware that they are there as a result of Stringer and Joe's agreement.
** Season 3 revolves around a turf war between Avon Barksdale's drug organization and the new organization of Marlo Stanfield. Both sides take heavy casualties, with the war ending when the Major Crimes Unit arrests Avon and most of his gang in a weapons stash house.
** Season 4 sees Marlo working to maintain his turf, using his enforcers Chris Partlow and Snoop to execute rival dealers as well as associates who have become liabilities.
