TruthInTelevision, even though it's a textbook example of what not to do in a relationship.

** Eight words: I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can). The guy is a complete and utter scumbag and everyone can see it, even the narrator. She keeps insisting she can fix him until the very last line, when it's implied he finally crossed a whole other MoralEventHorizon.

* Michael Hosea of Literature/RedeemingLove is very much this at times. Because God told him to, he stays rigidly devoted to his wife Angel--a BrokenBird who is bitter, cynical, manipulative, and hates men--in pursuit of healing her deep emotional scarring caused by her childhood rape and years of forced prostitution. Angel is skeptical of his love and tries to manipulate him--even having no qualms about sleeping with other men. Even after she begins to love Michael back, she's flighty and angry, sometimes lashing out at him or--on two occasions--leaving him, but he still sticks by her as if she were the most upstanding and devoted wife in the world.

This is probably intentional, since his last name is Hosea ... as in, the Biblical prophet whom God instructed to marry a woman who would be unfaithful to him as an object lesson to Israel about how God sticks with them despite their idolatry!

* Elizabeth Standard in ComicBook/AnyasGhost. She appears to have it all by dating Sean, the BigManOnCampus, but is revealed during the WildTeenParty they attend with Anya that she's willing to quietly stand guard while her boyfriend Sean cheats on her with other girls (including other boys' girlfriends), because she wants to be seen with him, has been with him for three years, and he "only gets bad at parties," claiming she loves him.

* The classic love ballad "When a Man Loves a Woman", originally made famous in 1966 by Music/PercySledge and renewed in 1991 by Music/MichaelBolton, is about a man who would subject himself to worse and worse conditions if it made his love happy. And the final verse suggests he would even turn a blind eye toward her being unfaithful to him.

* The end of Manga/AttackOnTitan reveals this to be the case for [[spoiler:Ymir Fritz, the progenitor of the titan powers that drive the plot. Despite his constant abuses, she was in love with King Fritz and ultimately chose to die to escape them, despite having the power to easily kill him. It's not until Mikasa is able to find the resolve to kill Eren in spite of her own love for him that Ymir's spirit is finally able to vicariously experience the catharsis that allows her titan powers to vanish from the world.]]

Compare/contrast MadLove, where the person in love is depicted as hopelessly blind if not outright AxCrazy; his or her affection is clearly wasted upon someone who doesn't care one bit (but is sometimes happy to take advantage of the situation). See also AllTakeAndNoGive, MonsterFangirl, SunkCostFallacy. Often goes hand in hand with WhyWouldAnyoneTakeHimBack.

this does not actually separate it from Love Redeems, and contradicts the stated difference listed at the end.

Alice is fully aware of Bob's faults, but willingly endures the insults and troubles he dishes out because she believes her unconditional love is strong enough for both of them and/or will eventually reform Bob. What separates the Love Martyr from the Mad Lover is that, in this case, Bob and Alice are in a relationship, albeit a twisted one, and the love is ostensibly mutual, but he pays so little attention to her needs that his "love" for her verges on InformedAbility. Very often, others will ask "WhatDoesSheSeeInHim" or point out to Alice that Bob is a bad boyfriend, but she invariably ignores or dismisses their concerns. Expect her to say, "But you don't know him like I do."
