fame normally wears his hair long in a ponytail to keep hair out of the guns he examines, but often lets it down in the field. Combined with his rough yet dignified Imperial/Van Dyke facial hair and a generally pleasant and inoffensively educational demeanor, Ian was quickly christened Gun Jesus by fans. This got to the point that even [[https://twitter.com/hecklerandkoch/status/1128722987694211072 gun manufacturer Heckler and Koch got in on the joke]]. This isn't a new development at all; one of ''Forgotten Weapons''' most popular videos is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sI3x30iamHc Ian on the gun range at Halloween, dressed in the stereotypical garb of the Lord]].[[labelnote:Extra joke]]Ian is also firing the Chiappa "Holy Trinity" triple-barreled shotgun just to stick to the theme.[[/labelnote]]

* Ironically, the real Jesus most likely would ''not'' qualify for the trope. Not only did he most likely have far more [[DivineRaceLift Semitic features]] than most art would have you believe, but long hair was not common for men at his time. He probably ''did'' have a beard, but both historical texts and artwork from the era confirms that men in that time and location wore their hair and beards cut ''short'', so as to protect against lice. The Bible does not give any details about Jesus's appearance, but the fact that the people sent to arrest him needed Judas to point him out suggests that Jesus was a completely average-looking, ordinary Jewish man. Meaning he certainly did not have long hair, which would be extremely atypical of the era.
** The Old Testament prophesies also hint at this on the few occasions they comment on the Messiah's physical appearance. Isaiah 53, for example, describes him as having "no beauty of majesty to attract us to him; nothing in his appearance that we should desire him."
** The only thing close to an eyewitness description of Jesus's appearance anyone has been able to find thus far is that attributed to the Jewish historian Josephus, who described Jesus as not only short-haired but also four feet tall, with terrible posture, and a ''mono-brow''. Whether Josephus is an even remotely reliable source, though, is up for debate, though the idea of Jesus being a Semetic Creator/DannyDeVito ''is'' admittedly very amusing.

* Jebus from WebAnimation/MadnessCombat looks much like the saviour, down to having a golden halo. In the earlier episodes, this is because he was a straight parody of Jesus, but later episodes would give him a bit more of an individual character, greatly expanded on in the series' official video game Project Nexus, rebranding him as a scientist named Dr. Jebediah Christoff working for the Nexus Core who betrayed and killed the project's director. With all of these developments, his roots as a parody of Jesus remain deep seated.

A conservative interpretation suggests that Durer is responding to the tradition of the Imitation of Christ. The more controversial view reads the painting as a proclamation of the artist's individual identity and his role as creator.
