Compare MamaBear and PapaWolf, which is more or the same concept but only occurs as an immediate defensive reaction to an emergent threat, and does not necessarily entail vengeance or DisproportionateRetribution. The EvilMatriarch is often an extreme version of the Knight Templar Parent, though by no means always. See also MyBelovedSmother and OverprotectiveDad. An older brother who will protect/avenge his younger sibling by any means necessary is a KnightTemplarBigBrother, which is an extreme version of BigBrotherInstinct. For Knight Templar Parents minus the KnightTemplar part, see GoodParents. For the non-parental equivalent, see WellIntentionedExtremist.

When the kids grow up and flee the nest as fast as their battered sense of independence can carry them, this parent is demoted to Meddling Parent. Though this may be difficult if it doubles up with MyBelovedSmother.

* In FanFic/TheImmortalGame, Esteem claims that everything he did to Rarity -- TrainingFromHell, emotional (and possibly physical) abuse, killing her mother (who opposed his plans) -- was all for her own good, to make her strong enough to survive and rule by his side in the new order he'd help Titan create. He also nearly cut out Prince Blueblood's tongue for how he treated her; he's a real piece of work. She calls him out on this during their confrontation and disowns him.
* In the Manga/Naruto fanfic FanFic/AFathersWrath, instead of the yondaime, Naruto's father is Orochimaru. He's so enraged by Naruto being made into a jinchuriki, that in this continuity it's his primary motive for forming the sound village and attempting to destroy Konoha. In sound, he also makes Tayuya something akin to a slave for Naruto for slapping him. It's implied he would have had her killed if Naruto hadn't spoken up about being in a panic at the time and that she'd been trying to calm him down. Otherwise, however, he seems to be a just ruler and a devoted parent.

Due to the nature of the crime, the jury and judge sympathized with Plauché (what he did was legally wrong, but both found it very difficult to condemn him on moral grounds) and he was given a suspended 7-year sentence, only serving 5 years probation and 300 hours of community service. Up to his dying day Plauché had zero regrets about killing his child's rapist.

* In Literature/LetMeCallYouSweetheart, Dr Charles Smith was this to his daughter Suzanne, to the point of stalking her. In particular, [[spoiler:after stumbling across his daughter's body, Smith believed that her husband Skip had murdered her after learning she was having an affair. He worried that Skip would be treated more leniently by a jury, so he hid the evidence of the affair and testified that Skip was unjustly jealous, so that he would get a harsher sentence as punishment for killing Suzanne]]. This created a huge problem, because .

* There are many parents who insist that their kids will not get privacy until they're old enough to live on their own, in order to be able to ensure they're not doing drugs, sexting, drinking, and also to be able to step in if their child is suicidal, hurting themselves, or otherwise suffering depression. Here's one of them.
** The problem with this style of parenting is that it doesn't make better-behaved kids -- it makes sneaky, paranoid kids who have severe trust issues long into adulthood, and tends to fracture relationships with parents once the invasion is noticed, creating a ViciousCycle as the child tries to hide things more in reaction, and the parent tries to hunt even more into their life in retaliation and misguided 'concern'.

In the Harry Potter wiki it has an article on Molly Weasley's curse and calls it unidentifiable. If it was named they most likely would know

** It also includes a more traditional version with Molly Weasley: the otherwise soft-hearted and kind mother kills . This counts as more than just MamaBear in part because it's the only recorded stunning spell powerful enough to stop another person's heart. Doubly surprising considering how strong and experienced her opponent was but works as an in-universe version of the mythical mother lifting a car off her child. "Not my daughter you bitch!"

The myth of Lucretia doesn't seem to count as an example since her father reacted after she had already taken her life therefore there wasn't anything to be overprotective about.
