Of course, if you're a target of his slash-and-burn budget, this is unlikely to generate much warmth in his direction, unless it's the BurnTheWitch kind.

And if the events of the first season finale are interpreted, even God hates his guts. Being a walking cultural paradox does absolutely no favors for him.

** Kurt. He's staggeringly manipulative and borderline StalkerWithACrush on Finn, but he's victimised and struggling for acceptance and it's hard not to just want to jump through the screen and give him a cuddle.

Rather racist (he actually called his cat Nigger-Man) but also sickly, often terribly poor, and chronically depressed, and his family whom he loved died when he was quite young. He eventually died at age 46 of malnutrition and intestine cancer after suffering constant pain for a year.
** The cat's name wasn't a symptom of his (at times pathological) racism; the word wasn't considered much of an insult by grand majority of the whites at the time, even though it wasn't entirely politically correct even then.

* Whatever can be said about Glenn Beck (and there's, uh, a lot), the guy did have pretty tragic beginnings: his mother, who had chemical addictions and manic-depressive fits, died when he was fifteen; one of his brothers committed suicide, to which Beck responded to becoming a drug addict, and still is still recovering. * No matter how you feel about Aileen Wuornos theres no denying she had a terrible life. Her mother left her, father committed suicide, grandfather brutally beat and raped her, burn marks from playing with fire as a child, neighborhood kids threw rocks at her, baby taken off her, made homeless and forced to sleep in snow at 13, forced into prostitution as child, brother died of cancer and repeatedly hospitalized due to beatings and rapes by johns including a broken pelvis. And then she started to strike back and murder a row of men...

** [[WellDoneSonGuy Jason Todd]] / [[AntiHero Red]] [[AntiVillain Hood]]. YourMileageMayVary with him as well, but considering he grew up on the streets, has had his foster mother (drugs), his father (Two-Face), his real mother (Joker) and his adopted father (Batman, really lost in time but he doesn't know that) all die on him, had his real mother betray him to the Joker when he tried to help her, was brutally beaten and then blown up by the Joker, was resurected without his memories and forced to dig his way out of his grave and live on the streets, was dunked in a Lazarus Pit to regain his memories, found out his adopted father had failed to avenge his death, was "betrayed" again when Batman attacked him to stop him from killing the Joker...SoYeah.

* Muramasa of ''{{Bleach}}''. Sure, he personally instigated the [[EmpathicWeapon Zanpakuto]] Rebellion and [[spoiler:incinerated Katen Kyokotsu and Sogyo no Kotowari to death]], but as Kouga descends deeper into madness, he quickly became an [[SmugSnake self-centered, arrogant, abusive]] JerkAss that frequently treated Muramasa as a mere tool, instead of an actual person. However, since Muramasa was the one that led Kouga to his crazy, power-drunken self, one could say that he brought it on himself. This disharmony causes Muramasa to literally lose the ability to hear his master when needed... which led to Kouga [[KickTheDog stabbing]] Muramasa as soon as he was unsealed, and was completely uncaring about Muramasa's explanation.

** Hiyori Sarugaki, [[BrattyHalfPint a aggressive and short-tempered girl]] with rather violent tendencies who seems to [[Jerkass hate everyone around her.]] However, many fans felt sorry for her when [[spoiler: Hollowfied Ichigo tried to strangle her to death and when Gin ''cut her in half'']].
** Sure, [[TricksterMentor Urahara]] could've gotten by without callously [[ManipulativeBastard manipulating]] [[Chessmaster everybody around him]], but you gotta feel sorry for him once his [[FreudianExcuse backstory]] is shown. [[spoiler: His lieutenant and one of his best friends were hollowified in front of him and he [[MyGreatestFailure failed to save them]], then was blamed for it.]] Poor guy...

* Meriwether Lewis. Read some of his comments on American Indian women and you'll pretty much just want to kick his racist, sexist ass. However, he was at least clinically depressed, possibly bipolar, and he was also a hypochondriac and an alcoholic, and he was rewarded for his service to the Republic with a high-stress job that exacerbated all of these conditions and also landed him with a bunch of political enemies out for blood. Oh, and despite being a genuine hero, when he tried to find a wife, he repeatedly struck out. And while this may have simply been due to his Jerkass side, there is also reasonable speculation that he was a repressed gay man and in unrequited love with William Clark, and even if he wasn't in love with Clark, it's pretty clear that he felt a stronger attachment toward his friend and co-commander than was noticed or reciprocated. When he finally set out for Washington to deal with various political and financial messes he'd gotten entangled in, he was supposedly so broken that he deliriously believed Clark was coming to his rescue and called out for him just before shooting himself multiple times, drunkenly managing to botch his own suicide despite being a crack shot. And he was only 35! Of course, some believe this wasn't suicide, but murder by said enemies, but either way, he was definitely a first-class Woobie.
