** I don't see why people say that. When you think about it not much has changed. Sure Mal deals a nice blow to the alliance, some people die, and River gets a little better (but there's no evidence to suggest she's now perfectly normal). Does that really end the Status Quo? Its not as if at the end Mal had found a gigantic pile of money then hijacked the Alliance's brand new super cruiser. They're still living on the edge of the law, they're still just barely scraping by running cargo missions in a ship that's falling apart. What, if not that is the status quo of the show?

* ''Game/MegaMan and Bass'' takes place between ''Mega Man 8'' and ''9''. It's even called "Mega Man 8.5" in the internal programming. There is a case for the GameBoy ''Mega Man'' titles being interquels of the main series. The "Wily Tower" segment of ''The Wily Wars'' could conceivably be set between ''3'' and ''4''.
** ''Mega Man and Bass'' is not an example, as it came out before ''9'' and after ''8''. It's just a non-traditional sequel title crossed with a spin-off.

** The Star Wars EU is packed with interquels, really. TimothyZahn's TheThrawnTrilogy took place five years after ReturnOfTheJedi; the New Republic was still fighting a defiant Empire, the Empire's capitol world had been taken over, Han and Leia had married. When this trilogy jumpstarted the EU, and a lot of novels explored the years after that, others took on the intervening space. And there's always intervening space and new stories to tell.
** ShadowsOfTheEmpire is worth noting as a multimedia interquel designed to have every tie-in a movie set between ESB and ROTJ would have - a {{Novelization}}, a video game, a six-issue comic book, a soundtrack, toys, trading cards - without the movie. There were even [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we7B9hFO308 a trailer.]]
