Often used as part of {{Shipping}}. Sometimes, RonTheDeathEater is responsible for the "hurt" part and DracoInLeatherPants is responsible for the "comfort" part. (In fact, the derivation implied by those {{Trope Namer}}s is quite common, typically with [[Franchise/HarryPotter Hermione]] on the receiving end.) At other times, the characters stick to canonical roles (if not canonical characterization). In cases of physical hurt, it may be accidental or deliberately inflicted, but almost always there's some reason given why the injured cannot be taken to get medical attention (at least at first), which would involve them being cared for by ''mere'' strangers (with medical training) rather than [[ThePowerOfFriendship someone who cares]].

* "[[http://senoraalcazar.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4ht6t7 An Evening at the Airport]]", a long ''Franchise/{{Tintin}}'' fanfic, has a scene of this between Tintin and Martine. However it is a more subtle version of this as it is pretty understated and Martine's problems are shown as being more existential than the result of some trauma.

* "The Rehabilitation Of Dawn Bellwether", focuses on Bellwether getting paroled after 4 years in prison, trying to clean up her act, being on the receiving end of scorn from all of Zootopia, being haunted by her worst actions in the past, and, throughout all of it, forming a bond with a wolf OC named Vernon Hunter, who also has his moments of being comforted himself, [[spoiler: like when Bellwether goes with the ZPD after being suspected of a local terrorist act, and then when she performs a HeroicSacrifice to save the city]].

It's an Alternate Universe of Return of Jedi, where Luke seduces Darth Vader/Anakin to the Light Side, making him face his scars and inner demons in process. This fic is notable for being written as a counterpart to many fics where either Vader or Palpatine suceed in seducing either Luke or Leia to the Dark Side.

* The [[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse MCU]] fic [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/15299694 Born of the Same Impulse]] combines this with PeggySue. Tony Stark is sent back in time and manages to prevent Ultron, Sokovia, and Civil War. But he is left to deal with the lingering PTSD and trust-issues that were a consequence of the events that he's undone, plus the paranoia that some other disaster might take their place. The Avengers spend the majority their time trying to cheer him up and get him out of his shell, even though Tony can't really tell them about his issues, because they technically don't exist anymore. Tony himself plays the role of comforter in his interaction with his fellow time-traveller, Stephen Strange, who has now lost his powers, and struggles with existential crisis as he relives his accident and the long road to recovery.

* ''Fanfic/MissingSherlockHolmes'': While many of the early segments are devoted to the mystery, the drabbles after the storming of the gang's headquarters edge increasingly into Holmes attempting to help Watson deal with the physical and emotional hurt endured during his captivity, and receiving some comfort in return.

* ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'' fanfic ''Fanfic/SafeAnchorage'' revolves around Theon Greyjoy and Jeyne Poole looking after each other in the wake of their canon abuse and torture.
* ''Literature/TheFriendshipSong'' has in-universe examples. Harper and Rawnie are fond of these sorts of scenarios, with Ty usually saving Nico from some kind of trouble, or both of them dying together but being comforted with their unbreakable friendship.
* An official version for the ''Literature/LastHeraldMageTrilogy'' can be found in the first [[Literature/HeraldsOfValdemar Other Tales of Valdemar]] anthology, ''Sword of Ice''. Mark Shepherd's short story "Chance" expands on an anecdote told in ''Magic's Promise'', where Vanyel fondly remembers his short-term boyfriend Guardsman Jonne. The short story features Vanyel's clothes getting cut to pieces in a mage attack, followed by Jonne taking him to a [[HotSpringsEpisode hot spring]] in a crystal cave and giving him an AfterActionPatchUp that then leads to [[TwoPersonPoolParty sex]]. Compared to his characterization in the second two books, Van is more willing than usual to take a break from his duty and enjoy the moment. Maybe he just likes that Jonne's a few years older than he is and StraightGay, so can't really remind him of Tylendel. The story also contains this line.

* The ''Franchise/AceAttorney'' fandom is a hurt/comfort goldmine, in part because the "hurt" part is as easy as [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes trapping Edgeworth in an elevator or earthquake]]. Partly from the fact that the Hurt and the Comfort are the same character from two different timelines. One is a [[VideoGame/FreedomPlanet Sash Lilac]] who drowned and returned as a sort of water spirit, the other is also a Sash Lilac that was rescued by the No-Zone after her Carol betrayed her. The former appears one day while the latter is having a swim, and they set about dealing with the former's hydrophobia.
** ''[[https://masterperrymartin.deviantart.com/art/Abandoned-Heroism-729305526 Abandoned Heroism]]'', a later fic from the author, is very similar if not an outright SpiritualSuccessor; only instead of a normal Lilac and a wraith-like Lilac bonding, it's a depressed, homeless Lilac getting some comfort from an asexual, Red-Scarf-aligned Milla[[note]]Though info in the author's multiverse lists shows that the Milla the homeless Lilac is grieving over is in the same group as Drowned Lilac - part of the Elemental Wraiths, alongside a Carol and Neera who have yet to be elaborated on[[/note]].

* ''{{VideoGame/Touhou}}'': Kogasa Tatara is a youkai created by abandoning an umbrella. A disturbingly large amount of fanart and doujin applies the same abandonment issues to her human-looking body, and only sometimes with a happy ending.
* ''VideoGame/DeadByDaylight'': This trope is the bread and butter of the game's fanfiction community, primarily regarding the Survivors (Dwight and Quentin are especially popular choices), but occasionally also applied to the more sympathetic killers like the Spirit or the Nurse.
* ''VideoGame/PunchOut'': ''Fanfic/HomeSickNoonboryKedabory'' focuses on Disco Kid looking after a sickly Aran Ryan. Although he is typically a CombatSadomasochist, Aran can't stand being ill, which softens him up to Disco. They end the story an unofficial [[GleefulAndGrumpyPairing couple]].

A bit funnier than the usual angsty/shippy example, mainly because Spongebob is [[AnnoyingPatient taking advantage of Squidward's hospitality]] so he can spend time with him, and it emphasizes the brotherly relationship between the two characters.

* "[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6079358/1/Fix-You Fix You]]" is a ''WesternAnimation/{{Superjail}}'' fanfic that focuses on the Mistress comforting and healing the Warden while Superjail's inmates are rioting.
* The ''WesternAnimation/LittlestPetShop2012'' story "Fanfic/TheTimesTheyAreAChangin2013" identifies itself as one of these, but this tragic tale of [[BreakingTheFellowship the pets' relationships deteriorating]] when Blythe abandons them and Penny's owners move away also has strong DarkFic elements.
* The ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'' fanfic (and FixFic), "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5961606/1/ Payback from a Pipe]]" acts as an epilogue to the episode "[[Recap/FamilyGuyS8E18QuagmiresDad Quagmire's Dad]]." When Stewie finds out about [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown what Quagmire did to Brian]], he [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge hunts him down, beats the crap out of him]], [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech tells him off about everything that's wrong with him and what he did to Brian]], and lastly forces Quagmire to apologize to Brian for attacking him earlier.

* ''Fanfic/IrrationalFear'' is a fanfiction of ''WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse'' about Lincoln comforting Lisa about her FearOfThunder. Unlike most examples, it's completely platonic (Lisa and Lincoln are siblings, after all) and not angsty at all. In fact, it's kind of comedic.
* ''Fanfic/MySuperBestFriend'' is a fan fiction of ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'' that takes place after season 21. It focuses on Stan, Heidi, Nichole, and the boys trying their best to comfort Kyle and help him recover from his trauma developing from accidentally, and indirectly, getting Canada nuked.
* ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'': The JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind sequences in ''VideoGame/FlawedCrystals'' take this form. The gems are shown at their lowest, beaten down by their worst fears, traumas, and mental illnesses. Steven has to show them love, care, and real understanding in order for them to recover.
