There's something about hexagons which make them look inherently advanced. This makes sense, since they're stylish yet practical. They slot together like squares, but look more complicated despite being more efficient to build with (a hexagon has a greater area for the length of its sides than a square, hence why bees use hexagonal honeycombs for storage). Board games, especially wargames, often use hexagons instead of squares because it allowed for clearly laid out movement in six directions without "diagonal" movement across corners. Not to mention even the name ''[[GratuitousGreek Hexagon]]'' sounds futuristic.

* Very much invoked by ''Franchise/RatchetAndClank'', stating with ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankFutureToolsOfDestruction Tools of Destruction]]'' thanks to the added detail possible on the ''UsefulNotes/PlayStation3''. In particular, Captain Qwark's outfit got a hexagon print, and almost every element of the UI used hexagons.

Added DiffLines:

* During UsefulNotes/WorldWarII, the Allies found that by making hexagonal bombs, they could elimiate the wasted space that occurred with regular, circular bombs, allowing planes to carry more bombs.

* ''Series/FraggleRock'': {{Lampshaded}} by Cotterpin Doozer after she accepts the Architect's offer to become his apprentice.
-->'''Cotterpin:''' Um... uh... would I have to do everything you said?\\
'''Architect:''' Well, of course.\\
'''Cotterpin:''' Oh. Well, I don't know, then...\\
'''Architect:''' Well, then again, if I hadn't been contrary, do you think Doozer constructions would look as they do today? Oh, the last architect liked circles! Took me years to get some nice squares.\\
'''Cotterpin:''' Oh. Well, uh... personally, I like hexagons.\\
'''Architect:''' ''[chuckling]'' Ohh, there'll be no hexagons around here, young lady.\\
'''Cotterpin:''' Mmm, we'll see...
