** [[YourMileageMayVary Arguably]] justified, though. Assuming that the implied timeline is correct, he almost died of aids sometime not long before the start of the first season. It's not that far fetched to imagine that it would take him a while to feel up to any form of sexual/romantic relationship again.

*** It does put a different shine on his past relationship with Grindelwald. The pain and betrayal, Dumbledore's resulting fear of his own ambition, and tendency to hold himself separate and therefore alone (throughout the series we see him with many friends, but no true equals - there is no one he confides in except for when he NEEDS someone to know specific information) could easily come out of a friendship gone wrong, but knowing that he's gay makes it pretty clear that he was in love with him.

For many fans who read between the lines in DH, Rowling's announcement was a big IKnewIt moment.
*** The trope's attitude is parodied in [[http://web.archive.org/web/20071024103424/http://callmecaito.livejournal.com/87357.html this]] post, where someone rewrites several Dumbledore quotes to include him stating that he's gay. [[SarcasmMode Seamless!]]

** To be fair, in the last seasons, the show made amends and Will was featured in many relationships, including kissing on screen, just as much as Grace was. The last episode even lampshaded and averted the whole "Grace and Will are soul mates" by pointing out that they needed to make a life for themselves.

* Stewie Griffin of ''FamilyGuy'' is constantly hinted as being gay, but it's never amounted to anything. Of course, he ''is'' a baby.
** This is probably because he hasn't fully come to terms with his sexuality. The writers were originally going to have him 'come out' in one episode but decided they preferred writing for him as [[AmbiguouslyGay sexually ambiguous]].

* ''WillAndGrace'' spent awhile getting Will a boyfriend while securing Grace as his soul mate. Often involves [[TokenMinority Token Gays]] and UnfortunateImplications, the main implication being that gays are [[DyingAlone lonely]]. The polar opposite of AmbiguouslyGay, and often the inverse of the TransparentCloset. Sometimes overlaps with StraightGay. See also: WordOfGay, GetBackInTheCloset, UrbanLegendLoveLife. If the character do get enough action for their sexuality to be more than an InformedAttribute, but still less than others, that's ButNotTooGay

HaveIMentionedIAmGay is when we know that a particular character is gay because we are told so, often repeatedly, and not because we actually see them display any sort of romantic feeling or sexual attraction toward characters of the same gender. The character is out of the closet, and may even proudly talk about past relationships, but we, the audience, never see them going on dates with the same gender, let alone actually having sex. You might notice that on United States TV, [[DoubleStandard you'll see girl-on-girl kissing, but never boy-on-boy]] unless it's a huge punchline, because MostWritersAreMale and GirlOnGirlIsHot.

*Both parodied and subverted in ''ScottPilgrim'' via Scott's roommate Wallace. We initially learn that Wallace is gay not because of his actions, but rather because no-one will shut up about it to the point where it becomes blatantly superfluous. Later we do actually see Wallace in relationships with men, however it's often intentionally exaggerated to draw attention to itself (especially so in TheMovie).
