[[caption-width-right:350: The simplest two examples (and Kero-chan).]]

->''"Dreams are like flowers in your hair! Girls wear many of them. Adults look foolish even with '''one'''."''
-->-- '''Mameha''', ''Literature/MemoirsOfAGeisha''

Any decoration a character (almost always a young girl) wears in her hair--bands, clips, {{flower|InHerHair}}s, ribbons, tiaras, you name it--to make herself look younger and cuter. A grown woman wearing one looks childish, though a character with RapunzelHair might be able to get away with cool-looking decorations; a male character (regardless of age) wearing one looks silly ([[DoubleStandard and, of course, his sexuality will be called into question]]), making this an AlwaysFemale Trope. (Except in YaoiGenre, where [[{{Uke}} cute young guys]] can wear barrettes or hair clips. Or when RealMenWearPink is in play.)

Mostly used in anime, if the author has OnlySixFaces, but the relatively mundane setting doesn't call for the more outlandish AnimeHair or even nonstandard HairColors; the next best way to distinguish heads is by having the girls wear their hair up with increasingly iconic accessories. Especially prevalent if the main character has brown hair. They're also commonly paired with GirlishPigtails.

The type of hair decoration also tells you something about her age. Double-orb hair clips and Alice bands are usually worn by preschool girls, while middle- and high-school students prefer ribbons. A particularly common decoration is a ribbon tied into a huge bow. This is more common for elementary or middle school children, and usually signals innocence.

Sometimes this overlaps with TertiarySexualCharacteristics: you know it's a girl ''because'' she has hair decorations. Naturally, she'll be cuter.

Occasionally part of a NiceHat, FrillsOfJustice, and/or PimpedOutDress.

Compare PinkMeansFeminine, LongHairIsFeminine.

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* Hild from ''Manga/AhMyGoddess''--the amount of decorations and ornaments in her hair are stunning, and make her look even MORE beautiful. Her daughter seems to copy this aspect of her.
* In ''Manga/AimForTheAce'', Reika has an enormous pink bow, the captain has white barrettes, and Kyoto has large orange bows holding back her terrible [[StarWars Princess Leia-esque]] [[{{Odango}} buns.]]
* ''Manga/AirGear'': Kururu's hair is absolutely ''littered'' with bobby pins, as well as a large X-barrette.
* In ''Manga/ArpeggioOfBlueSteel'' Ashigara wears a pair of hair clips in the shape of a stylised wolf, which along with her CuteLittleFangs reference her RealLife counterpart's nickname "The Hungry Wolf".
* In ''Manga/AttackNumberOne'', the easiest way to distinguish which girl is which is by their headbands or bows. Kozue wears a yellow headband with a bow on it. Midori has a blue headband.
* ''Manga/AxisPowersHetalia'': Several of the females wear something in their hair.
** Hungary has her pink flower (representing Lake Balaton).
** Taiwan has plum flower-shaped pins.
** Seychelles uses red ribbons.
** Belgium and the sisters Ukraine and Belarus use headbands.
** Liechtenstein has a single blue ribbon given to her by Switzerland so [[{{Bifauxnen}} people wouldn't mistake her as a boy]].
** Monaco has a big purple bow.
** Wy has a red flower. Vietnam occasionally is drawn with flowers in her ponytail.
** One of the almost nonexistent ''male'' examples is Norway, who uses an cross-shaped hairpin along with his NiceHat. It's also some sort of communication device or phone, as he uses it to speak to [[AllTrollsAreDifferent his friend Troll]] and once uses it to contact his younger brother Iceland in one of his character songs.
** Noto-sama, whose ponytail is detachable.
** Himaruya once said of Belgium's early artwork: ''"She also originally had no ribbon, though Himaruya noted that the design would have been innovative as it is rare for his female characters to lack hair accessories"''. As well, an early draft of Liechtenstein reportedly had her ribbon replaced with a headband.
** Several of the [[GenderFlip Nyotalia girls]] also wear something in their hair: Japan has a yellow chrysanthemum or pink sakura flower, America wears star-shaped barrettes, England has X-shaped pins, Canada wears maple leaf-shaped barrettes and ties her pigtails with white ribbons, Austria has round purple pins, Romano wears a headband much like Belgium's except it is pink, Spain has some kind of flower, and Korea has a red or pink bow tied around her braid.
* ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh'':
** A subversion occurs in the manga. Sakaki thinks Chiyo looks awfully cute in a plaid bow she wears once. She desperately wants to be cute herself, but when she does an ImagineSpot about what this would look like, she realizes her [[FaceOfAThug fierce aura]] is too overpowering.
** In the anime, when Chiyo says that her present for her 10th birthday was ribbons, Sakaki imagines Chiyo in ribbons (and a pink dress) and has her usual reaction to cute things. She also imagines herself in ribbons, to the effect described above.
* ''LightNovel/BakaAndTestSummonTheBeasts'': At least once, almost every female, regardless of age, (and in certain moments, regardless of [[DudeLooksLikeALady actual]] [[WholesomeCrossdresser gender]]) wear some kind of hair dec, be it clips, ribbons, scrunchie, or barrette.
* Ryuu of ''Anime/CuteHighEarthDefenseClubLove'' has a white headband to hold a rather long fringe back. Noting [[{{Parody}} the tongue-in-cheek nature]] of the show, his sexuality isn't supposed to be questioned... but [[YaoiFangirl the fans will run with it]], anyway.
* ''Anime/{{Beyblade}}'':
** Mariah/Mao wears a pink hair ribbon which is tied in a way that makes it resemble cat-ears.
** Another example is Ray, who wraps his near ankle length hair in a white cloth, making it resemble a tiger tail.
* The titular Birdy Cephon Altera of ''Manga/BirdyTheMighty'' can be seen wearing either a hairband (the original manga and OVA) or a finned headset (the remake manga and ''Decode'').
* Finnian ("Finny") of ''Manga/BlackButler'' is a rare example of a male character wearing small barrette-type things in his hair. It seems to highlight his innocence, or something like that. Before you start mocking his looks, just remember he can [[spoiler: lift and throw a 15-foot-tall marble statue several hundred feet straight up.]]
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** [[TheMedic Orihime]] has two blue flower shaped hairclips that were a gift from her dead brother Sora. They later become a sort-of EmpathicWeapon of hers. Ichigo's little sister Yuzu also wears barettes.
** Miyako Shiba used to tie her hair with a black ribbon.
** A rare male example features: Byakuya. Though you'd have to be suicidal (or Kenpachi) to question his fashion sense. (It's a JustifiedTrope in his case: these specific hair decs are a treasure of the Kuchiki family and Byakuya must use them as the leader of the clan.)
** Some female Arrancars have either this, or Hollow masks that ''look'' like hair decs. I.e: [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cirucci_4027.jpg Cirucci Thunderwitch]] or [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vlcsnap-000011_1691.jpg the girls from Harribel's fraccion]]
** Post time-skip Yachiru now wears a skull and crossbones in her hair.
* In ''Manga/BlueExorcist'', Rin gets a clip from Ryuji so that the former's fringe doesn't get in the way. This doesn't serve much purpose except to prove that Ryuji is a better friend to Rin than he thinks he is.
* Almost all the girls in ''Manga/CandyCandy'' wear something in her hair. The eponymous Candy has her iconic twin red bows, Annie wears a hairbow, Eliza and Susanna prefer big bows on the back of their heads, Louisa uses blue bows, etc. Pretty much the only girls who didn't put hair decs were Patty (she uses a short bob) and Frannie (too practical to be concerned with her appearance). [[spoiler: It becomes very important when Candy is framed by Neil and Eliza for trying to hurt Annie: Annie can't testify in her favor, but she manages to leave one of her hair ribbons to silently tell Candy that she believes in her innocence.]]
* In ''Manga/Brave10'', Isanami sports a jade headpiece that, while cute, is clearly more than for looks. It's name is the Kushimitama, and was given to Isanami by the head priest for [[ProtectiveCharm protecting]]. [[spoiler:Turns out it protects the world from her SuperPoweredEvilSide.]]
* ''Manga/BungouStrayDogs'':
** Yosano's butterfly hair clip.
** Kyouka and Alcott's headbands.
** Elise's bow.
** Tanizaki's hair clips.
** Kouyou, Golden Demon, and Demon Snow all wear their hair in buns fastened by long pins.
** Lucy wears a FlowerInHerHair.
* ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'': Sakura and Tomoyo (see the picture).
** In one episode, Toya gives The Mirror card disguised as Sakura ribbons for her long hair, since even though Sakura had short hair, he could see through the disguise. The ribbons then appear on the card's artwork.
* All the main characters from ''Manga/ACertainScientificRailgun'' have some kind of hair decoration. But Uiharu Kazari definitely tops them all--she basically wears a bouquet for a hairband. (Her younger self apparently only wore a flower or two, but it's grown since then.)
* ''Manga/ChibiMarukoChan'': When Maruko dresses up, she will often wear a ribbon tied into a bow in her hair.
* In ''Manga/Cyborg009'', [[TheSmurfettePrinciple sole female cyborg]] Francoise aka 003 wears a red headband. he 2001 series shows her wearing it ''before'' she was kidnapped and forcibly cyborg-ized.
* May Chang from ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' ties her OdangoHair with white bands and wears two white beads at the end of each of her BraidsOfAction.
* ''LightNovel/LoveChunibyoAndOtherDelusions'':
** Shinka has a prominent hairclip at the front
** Rikka has a yellow ribbon on the side of her head.
** Taken to the ridiculous extreme with Sanae Dekomori who has small weighted bags tied to her [[RapunzelHair Rapunzel]] length [[MegaTwintails Twintails]], as a form of improvised [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolas bolas]].that, up until now, [[EpicFail have only worked on herself]].
* ''Anime/CodeGeass'' has them on Shirley several times, out of uniform.
** Male example: Lelouch wears a flower in his hair in one official art.
** In ''Anime/CodeGeassAkitoTheExiled'', ''everyone'' has them in their caravan costumes, regardless of gender. Akito has a piece around his braid with jewels on it, and Leila has different jewelry around her egg-shaped buns.
** Akito's brother Shin wears different sorts of things on his ponytail - usually a long, purple string tied into a bow. Out of uniform, he wears a large ribbon bow, like Baroque gentlemen would wear.
* ''LightNovel/DateALive'': While almost every non-adult girl has some sort of hair decoration, Kotori has two sets for her [[FieryRedHead red TwinTails]]. And her ''[[SplitPersonality personality changes depending on the color]]''. Black for the [[ShanaClone tough]] [[ImprobableAge Commander]], White for Shido's [[{{Tsundere}} cute little sister]].
* Sayuri from ''Manga/{{DAYS}}'' has a single small braid with a bow on it.
* Marcille from ''Manga/DeliciousInDungeon'' braids her hair and ties it up with a red bow.
* Lala the demon girl from ''Manga/{{Devilman}}'' wears a pink butterfly bow in her hair.
* Not even Creator/KatsuhiroOtomo is immune--Etsuko, the little girl who is the protagonist of ''Manga/{{Domu}}'', hold back her curly hair with two clips, reminding the audience that she's only a child [[ExtraordinarilyEmpoweredGirl but one that can save them.]]
* Akina of ''Manga/DontBecomeAnOtakuShinozakiSan'' is always seen wearing a heart-shaped hair clip on the right side of her face.
* Eureka, from ''Anime/EurekaSeven'', always wears a hairclip on her at the beginning of the series until [[spoiler:an accidental almost-fusion with the Scub coral]] causes her to lose them along with most of her hair. Renton gives her a new barrette [[FlowerInHerHair with a flower on it]] at the end of the series.
* ''Manga/FruitsBasket'':
** Tohru is fond of wearing ribbons in her hair, as is Motoko. Kagura also wears them occasionally.
** Male example of sorts: Ritsu. Though he [[WholesomeCrossdresser DOES dress up as a girl.]] [[spoiler: The two or three times we see him in male clothes, he ties his hair with a smaller ribbon.]]
* ''Manga/FushigiYuugi''
** Miaka from the original series always has hair decs in any appearance with her {{Odango}}, but she usually uses pink ribbons, which play an important role in the manga.
** In the ''Manga/FushigiYuugiGenbuKaiden'' prequel, Takiko tends to wear a sole big bow ribbon.
* ''Anime/FutureGPXCyberFormula'': Asuka wears a hairband in the earlier series, and in the later series Satsuki wears a bow on her side ponytail.
* UpToEleven with Miki Noda of ''Manga/GAGeijutsukaArtDesignClass'' wears different hair decs ''every episode. '''At least.'''''
* The protagonist of ''Manga/GunslingerGirl'', Henrietta, normally wears a black headband.
* ''Anime/{{Hamtaro}}'': Laura Haruna with her 2 yellow hair clips.
* ''LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya'':
** Haruhi's [[IconicOutfit yellow or orange ribbon]]. She used to change hair decs daily (as well as wearing her hair loose on Monday, and adding one tail/bun/braid/whatever for each subsequent day of the week) until Kyon remarked on it; the next day, she came to school with the yellow ribbon and much shorter hair, a look she's kept from then on. [[spoiler: It's hinted that such was the hairstyle she used when she ''really'' met Kyon... three years ago.]] Haruhi's ribbon is a notable sticking point for the gender swapped version of the show--some artists make it into a {{Hachimaki}} like headband or a pair of headphones, while others just leave it as is, with the HandWave that he ''is'' eccentric.
** Kyon's sister also has some.
** Yasumi's smiley-face hairpin may be the strangest hair decoration in the series yet.
* ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'': While not her cuteness, definitely her femininity, Hinagiku's hair clip. Also shows her devotion to her parents.
** Nagi's twin-tails also are a form of cuteness, to the point that she's been threatened twice because of them, and Saki looks decidedly unnerved when she's forced to take her place.
** Athena uses both OjouRinglets and a black ribbon on her hair.
** Izumi and Fumi use hair decorations to point out their cuteness, as well as their air-headedness.
* ''Anime/HeavyMetalLGaim'': Amu always wore a light-yellow ribbon. Nei Mo Han in her first appearances sported a red hair band that just screamed EightiesHair!
* ''Manga/HidamariSketch'': [[CheerfulChild Yu]][[OlderThanTheyLook no's]] own X-shaped hair clips are her defining physical characteristics, often serving to symbolize her in the anime. Miyako was surprised to find out that they aren't hereditary. One time, when they went to the pool, Yuno wore a bathing cap, but when Sae removed it, she went back to get her clips. And at the bathhouse, when she removed them to wash her hair, Miyako put them on and got Yuno to look at her newly-''X'd hair''.
** Nazuna's hairbeads, which apparently jingle.
* ''Manga/HimechanNoRibon'': Himeko does get a ribbon and looks cuter while wearing it.
* Old-school manga heroine [[Manga/HoneyHoneyNoSutekiNaBouken Honey Honey]] wears an enormous pink bow on her head.
* Kaoru from ''Manga/ICantUnderstandWhatMyHusbandIsSaying'' wears a simple red clip in the front.
* Many characters, [[CastFullOfPrettyBoys mostly male]], wear them in ''Anime/{{K}}'' official art, mostly as a few clips in their bangs.
* ''Manga/KaguyaSamaLoveIsWar'':
** Fujiwara has a "super black" bow that seeming sticks to the front of her hair without any visible form of support. It's such an integral part of her character design ([[RuleOfFunny to the point that she keeps in on while wearing a bald cap]]) that fans have been known to joke that it's some sort of parasitic organism or SoulJar. Her older and younger sister also have their own accessories (Toyomi having a flower clip at the end of her side plait and Moeha having a pair of bows to hold up her pigtails)
** Kaguya wears a red ribbon to hold up her hair and serve as a visual representation of her status as a DefrostingIceQueen. [[spoiler: When [[GhostInTheMachine Kaguya (Ice)]] takes control during the post-culture festival arc, she removes it.]]
** Kashiwagi wears a red hair clip on the left side of her head, [[IrritationIsTheSincerestFormOfFlattery identical to the one that her best friend Maki wore back in their freshman year]].
** Hayasaka has a blue scrunchie to hold up her side tail.
* Tiff/Fumu from ''Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa''.
* ''Anime/LittleWitchAcademia'':
** Lotte wears a purple headband.
** Constanze wears a big, red ribbon on the back of her head.
** Jasminka Wears light red bows at the end of her pigtails.
** Ursula wears a light brown band at the end of her MotherlySidePlait.
** Hannah wears a yellow ribbon to hold up her hair.
* ''Anime/LuckyStar'' has Kagami and Tsukasa with ribbons and a bow, respectively.
* ''Anime/MazingerZ'': Sayaka Yumi always wore a pink headband. It was pretty iconic.
* In ''Anime/NanakaSixSeventeen'', Nanaka wears a side ponytail with a double-orb elastic after a head trauma causes her to think she's 6 years old again.
* ''Franchise/MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha'':
** Nanoha and Fate trade ribbons at the end of season 1. It's quite cute.
** Hayate and Reinforce II also have matching ribbons around one lock of hair at the left temple. It's also worth mentioning that Reinforce II was literally ''born'' wearing it.
** Hayate keeps her ribbon into her mid-20s. Seeing as how she's [[spoiler:one of the most powerful mages in history, half ancient-artifact-superweapon, and leader of her own specialist team of super-mages]]...''you'' tell her she can't wear it at that age.
* ''Manga/MahouSenseiNegima'':
** Asuna wears a pair of bells on her GirlishPigtails. Especially in the flashbacks.
** Setsuna uses a hair tie to achieve her distinctive half-bangs side-tail look.
** Chao wore {{Odango}}, while Ku Fei uses... something, to achieve spiky twin-tails. Also, Kaede Nagase, Yue Ayase, Satomi Hakase, and the Narutaki twins.
** Although not a girl, Negi has his hair bound with a ponytail. He seems to have have abandoned this in his later appearances though. The ponytail magically comes back when he's not in Raiten Taisou mode.
* In ''Manga/{{MAR}}'', Princess Snow almost always wears her iconic oversized pink bow on her head. If she isn't... there's something wrong. It's also helpful in distinguishing Snow from Koyuki, [[spoiler: as it's eventually revealed Snow is a copy of Koyuki, who ends up merging her soul back into her at the very end.]]
* Yumi and Touko from ''LightNovel/MariaSamaGaMiteru'' both tie their GirlishPigtails up with ribbons. Notably, they both have them in a number of different colors and patterns and swap them out daily.
* ''Maris the Chojo'', a.k.a. The Supergal, a ''Comicbook/{{Supergirl}}'' {{Expy}} created by Creator/RumikoTakahashi, wore a barrette shaped like the Japanese symbol for Yen, reflecting Maris' obsession with getting rich.
* ''Manga/MinamiKe'': Part of what makes Mako-chan such a cute girl is the hair clip in "her" hair. [[WholesomeCrossdresser Proof that this trope is not limited to actual girls.]]
* ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED'': Lacus Clyne has her distinctive barrette. In ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny'', Meer Campbell has her star-shaped barrette.
* ''Manga/NabariNoOu'': Raimei ties her hair up with ribbons, and Juuji wears a distinctive hair clip shaped like a shuriken. Raikou wears protective charms, ribbons, and at one point a hair bauble ''with hearts on it'' in his hair...though it's not like his [[AmbiguouslyGay sexuality wasn't already under question anyways]].
* Asuka from ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' always wears her "A-10 clips", a headset that's part of the UnusualUserInterface for the titular [[HumongousMecha Evangelions]], even when she is out of uniform. This is symbolic of just how passionate she is about her career as an Evangelion pilot, and--tragically--how little life she really has outside of it.
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'' has Sakura, who wears the Konoha headband like a ribbon (and had a ribbon prior to becoming a ninja), and Ino, who exhibits a little hair slide in ''[[TimeSkip Shippuuden]]''.
* Mio from ''Manga/{{Nichijou}}'' has a pair of wooden cubes that she wears in her pigtails, which manage to stay in place despite lacking any visible form of support. [[MindScrew They may or may not be superweapons of the Fey kingdom]].
* ''Anime/OjamajoDoremi'': Doremi Harukaze has a music note pin in one of her {{odango}}, but it's Hana-chan who shines in this trope from the time she's introduced. Even when her magical crystal scrunchies shatter in ''Dokkan'', Hana has a new pair that has wing-shaped decs (she even puts a spare on Pao-chan... a male, mind you).
* Ichigo Otohime and Morei Nekomata of ''Manga/OmujoOmutsuJoshi'' wear hair clips in their hair corresponding to their names. Strawberries for Ichigo, and cats, two with differing expressions, for Miss Nekomata. Ichigo's are distinctive enough that the male lead, Shouta, realizes she's the one being described by someone as soon as strawberry hair clips are mentioned.
* Also shows up in ''Manga/OniisamaE''. Tomoko wears a bow on her TomboyishPonytail, Aya has barrettes, Junko has two red ribbons, Fukiko wears a headband (and used to wear a hairbow in her youth), Miyuki uses double-orb pins and "Lady Vampanella" Hoshino wears a red bow. Normally Nanako doesn't wear anything in her hair since it's rather short, but when SheCleansUpNicely she tends to put on twin ribbons.
* ''Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub'':
** [[CosplayOtakuGirl Renge]] has a giant bow on her head that makes her stand out from the rest of the girls, though it doesn't really make her cuter, just more Renge.
** A few times in the manga, the twins wear hairpins in their hair to pull their bangs back.
* Koboshi from ''Manga/PitaTen'' wears [[AnimalEaredHeadband cat ear]] hair decorations.
** Misha also has some cute bunny-shaped decs.
* ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'': Misty's ponytail holder has baubles; Dawn not only wears a hat, but ''also'' sports three yellow triangular hair clips. And if these two let their hair grow for the next ten years then up the size of their apparel by an order of magnitude they may hope to compete with the hair dec PowerLevel of Sinnoh champion, Cynthia.
* ''Manga/{{Pretear}}'' is one of the only series that gets away with having a distinctly heterosexual male character wearing a dec, though it manifests in the shape of a large, tube-shaped bead and clasps around his ponytail in back. Later, it is revealed that every Leafe Knight possesses one of these "communicator beads" to some varying degree of size and placement.
* This trope is one of the reasons some viewers was convinced that 'Pidge' of 'Voltron Force' the dub of ''Anime/GoLion'' was really a girl, the other being 'his' friendship with the space mice.
* Of all the characters in the ''Anime/PrettyCure'' franchise, there's only ''one'' character who doesn't have ''any'' hair decorations as a normal person or as a Cure: [[Anime/FutariWaPrettyCure Nagisa Misumi/Cure Black]].
* ''Manga/ThePrinceOfTennis'': Sakuno wears flower-shaped hair clips, while An bounces from either heart-shaped or simple blue barrettes. Tomoka ties her pigtails with double-orb pins when not in school, and so does Narumi Iijyuin in the anime. [[spoiler: An's hairpins become {{Chekhovs Gun}}s in the anime-only Senbatsu arc: when she suddenly switches from her blue barrettes to the heart-shaped ones without reason, Ryoma deduces that she somehow lost them... then he finds the lost clips on the floor and discovers her link to a [[StaircaseTumble recent and very serious incident]]...]]
* ''Anime/ProjectAKo'': C-ko wears daisy barrettes in her hair, which goes with her ditziness and immaturity.
* ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'':
** Madoka Kaname spends her time in the morning choosing which ribbon she's going to wear on her hair to make herself attractive. Her friends even lampshade it. [[spoiler:It later becomes Homura's TragicKeepsake.]]
** Mami Tomoe has a flower hairpin in her hair. [[spoiler:It's the form her Soul Gem takes when she's transformed, and was the first thing to get crushed when Charlotte ate her alive]].
** In TheMovie, Sayaka Miki has a fortissimo note-shaped hairpin when she's in magical girl form.
*** [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in Creator/UmeAoki's [[https://images.puella-magi.net/f/ff/Movies_BDs_4koma_Official_Translation.jpg?20130807041050 official 4koma]], in which Kyoko joked that Kyosuke doesn't want Sayaka because she's obnoxious.
** Of a less spoilery form, all the other Magical Girls have this. Homura has a hair band, Sayaka has a few hair clips, and Kyoko has a ponytail ribbon.
*** This seems to be a series tradition by now, with nearly any new magical girl possessing Hair Decorations, a NiceHat, or both. Nagisa of ''[[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagicaTheMovieRebellion Rebellion]]'' wears hair bobbles in her civilian guise, as does Yuma of ''[[Manga/PuellaMagiOrikoMagica Oriko.]]'' The [[AntagonistTitle titular character]] of the same series wears a sidetail in a scrunchie, and her [[BattleButler bodyguard]] wears two hair clips similar to Sayaka. ''[[Manga/PuellaMagiKazumiMagica Kazumi]]'' mostly went for the hat option, but it still managed to cram in Yuuri's... unusual ties for her MegaTwintails and the [[CreepyTwins Soujus's]] ponytail tie. ''Manga/PuellaMagiSuzuneMagica'' [[http://images.puella-magi.net/e/e2/Puella_Magi_Suzune_Magica_Vol_1_Cover.jpg?20131027084157 continues]] the tradition. Reportedly, this was also why Sayaka gains her now-ubiquitous ''fortissimo'' hairpin for her uniform in the CompilationMovie; Creator/UmeAoki felt she looked a bit lacking next to the other four.
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'':
** Ukyo wears a big white ribbon in her hair tied with a bow on the side, and sometimes uses a matching ribbon to tie back her sleeves. Both are traditional signs of her trade as a small restaurateur.
** When SheCleansUpNicely, Akane tends to add ribbons to her looks.
** Shampoo wears Odango, which are practically the uniform of the AnimeChineseGirl, and spices them up with cute ornaments.
** [=OVA=] character Natsume somehow wears the 15 foot ribbon she uses for her part of ''[[MartialArtsAndCrafts hiryu carimbou]]'' attack [[SiblingTeam she shares with her older sister]] as a hair bow
* [[HornyDevil Kurumu]] from ''Manga/RosarioToVampire'' is almost never seen without her frilly tiara.
* All of the ''Manga/RozenMaiden'' dolls.
* ''Manga/RurouniKenshin'':
** Kaoru has her hair ribbons. By the end of the manga [[spoiler: she stops wearing them and has a more mature look upon becoming a [[BabiesEverAfter mother]].]]
** In one omake a rescued girl tie Kenshin's hair with a bow, and a lady passing by says it suits him.
* Common in ''Manga/SakuraTrick''. Haruka's kerchief is the most noticeable, but Yuzu and Kotone are the only major characters without any.
* ''Franchise/SailorMoon'':
** Tsukino Usagi, Chibi Usagi and Chibi Chibi all wear {{Odango}} orbs and tiaras in their Sailor forms. Super Sailor forms throw in barrettes. The [[Manga/SailorMoon manga]] had the barrettes from the beginning.
** Mako-chan has a cute jeweled hair tie.
** Minako has a red bow, which even has a backstory of its own: in ''Manga/CodenameSailorV'', it was her first crush who suggested her to wear it, telling her it would look good on her. [[TragicKeepsake Then she found out he was a youma, and ended up making him her first kill]]... [[SubvertedTrope And kept wearing it because he was right: it]] ''[[SubvertedTrope did]]'' [[SubvertedTrope look good on her]].
** Naru always wears her green hairbow, and in the manga, most of Usagi's classmates are distinguished by their hair ties.
** The [[CloudCuckooLander extraterrestrial-investigation-club leader]] Kotono from Rei's school wears red hairbows.
** The Sailor/Amazoness Quartet from the manga are an extreme case, as their hair decs (and hairstyles as well) are [[AnimeHair practically]] [[ImprobableHairstyle improbable]].)
* Kafuka of ''Manga/SayonaraZetsubouSensei'' almost always wears a distinctive yellow ribbon in her hair. It's been noted that without their hair styles, most of the girls would look [[OnlySixFaces practically identical]]. In Kafuka's case, it's more like [[CuteAndPsycho Every Girl Is Scarier With Hair Decs]].
* ''Anime/SerialExperimentsLain'': A side-tail tied with an X-shaped knot is Lain Iwakura's probably most prominent feature.
* ''Manga/SoulEater'' Evans subverts the stuffing out of this trope by regularly wearing a girls' headband... and rocking the look.
* Chika of ''Manga/StrawberryMarshmallow''.
* ''Anime/TheSwissFamilyRobinsonFloneOfTheMysteriousIsland'': Flone wears an exotic flower.
* Almost everyone from ''Manga/ShugoChara'' with a Guardian Character has a hair decoration which transforms to show a character change. Amu Hinamori, for example, wears an X-shaped barrette which changes to match whatever Guardian she's using. The boys of the series are not immune.
* Various ''Anime/TenchiMuyo'' girls get in on this. Most memorable is Sasami, with her pigtails and orb thingies.
* ''Anime/TweenyWitches'':
** Arusu wears a red barrette with a circular tip on the right side of her head and two yellow simple barrettes on the left side of her head.
** Eva wears brown bands at the end of her GirlishPigtails.
** When she fought Wizard Kingdom alongside the wizards to retrieve the True Book of Spells, Atelia wore a pink black-trimmed band at the end of her hair. By the time the wizards retrieved the True Book of Spells, she replaced it with a red gold-trimmed band.
** Credelle wears two blue black-trimmed bands at the end of her low pigtails.
** Melissa wears brown hair ties at the end of her GirlishPigtails.
** Yoko wears a yellow band at the end of her MotherlySidePlait.
* Speaking about X-shaped decorations, in ''Manga/KenkoZenrakeiSuieibuUmisho'' the main heroine wears a pair of them. For some reason, they are light enough to fly in the wind.
* ''Manga/WanderingSon'':
** Nitori sometimes wears hair decorations when out as a girl. She usually wears a hair pin or headband when not wearing a wig. In fact the first article of female attire she owned was a headband.
** Mako usually wears a headband when going out as a girl.
* ''Manga/YakitateJapan'': Azuma's signature hair band (another male example).
* ''Anime/YokaiWatch'': Katie wears a pink bow in her TomboyishPonytail. This is to show she's a TomboyWithAGirlyStreak.
* ''Manga/{{Yotsuba}}'':
** Yotsuba is cute enough normally, but when she adds bunny hair ties to her pigtails while dressing up for a [[FestivalEpisode festival]], the {{moe}} is turned UpToEleven.
** Torako doesn't normally wear hair decorations, but after she teaches Yotsuba how to tie a "butterfly knot", Yotsuba ties one into her hair. When her friend, Asagi, comes home:
-->'''Asagi''': Oh, how cute.
* ''Manga/YourLieInApril'': Kaori wears a [[FlowerInHerHair flower hairpin]] as part of her performance outfit.
* In ''Franchise/YuGiOh'' ([[Manga/YuGiOh the manga]] and the [[Anime/YuGiOhFirstAnimeSeries first anime]]), Miho has her hair tied back with a ribbon. In the manga, she is nicknamed "Ribbon" because of it.
* Yanagi Takayama, from ''{{Anime/Glasslip}}'', is usually seen wearing a dark red or pale yellow bow in her hair.

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* Ghost girl Talia of ''ComicBook/BrodysGhost'' wears several hairclips, including one with a skull and one with a heart.

* Dorothy Gale wears a large hair bow in Marvel's ''Oz'' graphic novels. Princess Ozma wears her usual flowers and diadem ensemble.

* ''Comicbook/{{Supergirl}}'':
** Pre-Crisis Kara used to wear a white or red hair-band in the seventies as seen in ''Comicbook/DemonSpawn'' and ''[[Comicbook/{{Supergirl 1972}} other Supergirl stories]]''. ''[[Comicbook/{{Supergirl 1982}} Later]]'' she wore white barrettes.
** Kara's iconic -and infamous- 80's costume includes [[http://www.craveonline.com/assets/uploads/2014/11/Convergence-Round-3.jpg a red headband]]. She was in her middle twenties when she started wearing it.
* ''ComicBook/WonderWomanAndTheStarRiders'': Solara wears a strange facinator that looks like a bunch of buildings carved from pink glass or plastic. Star Lily wears a tiered metal cover over her ponytail tie in addition to flowers in her hair.
* As of ''ComicBook/YoungJustice2019'' ComicBook/WonderGirl Cassandra Sandsmark wears a black hairband. Her prior incarnation occasionally wore a red one, but was best known for wearing a set of goggles like a headband.

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* In ''WebAnimation/ASadnessRunsThroughHimCOMPLETESnowtuftWarriorsAUMap'', Snowtuft puts a new bird feather behind his ear everytime something monumental happens in his life.
* The one-off character Maria, from ''Fanfic/CalvinAndHobbesTheSeries'', is said to wear a {{pink|MeansFeminine}} headband.
* ''Fanfic/HigherLearning'': Asuka's iconic red hair clips are actually a plot point. When Shinji [[spoiler:sank inside Leliel]] Asuka was scared, upset, angry and she did not know what to do. Not knowing who else talk to, she visited her teacher Kaoru seeking counsel and reassurance. She dropped her hair clips during her visit and Kaoru threw them away when he found them. A while later Kaji found them in his trash, thought wrongly he had hurt her or taken advantage of her and almost shot him.
* In ''Fanfic/NeonGenesisEvangelionGenocide'', Asuka's relationship to with her two iconic neural hair-clips is examined at several points. She ponders that they used to be a mark of pride, but after everything what she has gone through, she doesn't know if she should be sad or happy when she wears them. [[spoiler:Notably, she throws them in the trash when she is wracked with guilt after the incident with Unit-08, taking to temporarily use red rubber bands to set her hair instead.]]
* ''Fanfic/NobodyDies'': For the first fifteen chapters, Asuka's hair is down completely, due to her mother pulling her from the Evangelion Project. Instead, her older brother Uriel wears the hair clips, like Canon!Asuka. During a spa day with Mari in chapter 16, she gains a pair of non-functional hair clips as a finishing touch, mainly a gambit by Mari to get Shinji's attention. It worked. She kept these non-functional clips for off-duty times, even after becoming Unit-02's pilot.
* ''Fanfic/TheOneILoveIs'': Asuka always wore her iconic red hair clips. After she [[spoiler:went missing,]] Shinji wore them for a while.
* ''FanFic/PrettyCurePerfumePreppy'':
** Chiara and her daisy hairclip.
** In some original sketches Chloe had a pink-red-ish butterfly hairpin.
* In ''Fanfic/SugarPlums'' Ume wears a plectra (an ornate Asian stringed instrument pic) in a high set bun in her hair. Kiriko despite being three years older wears a cloth hairband with three cloth flowers on it, both of these items are things the two of them exchanged at gifts at a years end celebration.

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* This is popular with the Franchise/{{Disney Princess}}es. In chronological order:
** WesternAnimation/{{Snow White|AndTheSevenDwarfs}} wears blue and red headbands each with a bow on top.
** WesternAnimation/{{Cinderella}} has a white headband with a bow on it, a silver headband, and a white crown.
** [[WesternAnimation/SleepingBeauty Aurora]] has a black headband and tiara.
** [[WesternAnimation/TheLittleMermaid1 Ariel]] has a white pearl barrette, large blue bow tied into a ribbon, and tiara.
** Belle from ''WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast'' has a blue ribbon and gold band
** Jasmine from ''WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}}'' has blue, purple and gold crowns with bands tying her hair.

** Anna wears a ribbon in her hair with her Coronation Day dress. She also wears ribbons and a sunflower in "WesternAnimation/FrozenFever" and a festive piece that looks like leaves and cranberries with her HappyHolidaysDress in "WesternAnimation/OlafsFrozenAdventure."
* Alice from ''WesternAnimation/AliceInWonderland'' is not a princess but wears the classic "Alice band' from the Tenniel illustrations.
* Jane from ''WesternAnimation/TheBookOfLife'', wears heart-shaped hairclips that have an arrow "piercing" them.
* WesternAnimation/{{Coraline}} has a dragonfly.
* Violet from ''WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles'' starts to wear a headband in the middle of the first film.
* In ''Anime/KikisDeliveryService'', Kiki wears a rather impressive red bow. It's a direct reference to the illustrations in the original book, where it's her most distinguishing feature.
* Fifi, the main antagonist from the direct to DVD sequel of ''WesternAnimation/OpenSeason'', "Open Season 2". Despite wearing a cute blue bow on his fluffy head, Fifi is a neurotic and slightly unhinged poodle who didn't intend to let Weenie go back to the wild with Boog and Eliot without a fight. Also he's a male.
* Chihiro in ''Anime/SpiritedAway'' has a small band to tie back her hair. Later, she replaces it with a sparkly one that Zeniba says will protect her because her friends made it for her. [[spoiler: After leaving the spirits' world at the end, a quick sparkle shows the audience that it wasn't all [[AllJustADream just a dream.]]]]
* ''WesternAnimation/WreckItRalph'':
** Vanellope von Schweetz takes it UpToEleven; she seems to have stuck roughly 40 small pieces of candy, including a peppermint disk and a gummy bear, onto her own hair. (Though Ralph says she has "dirty hair"; maybe that's what dirty hair looks like in a world where everything, including the dirt, is made of candy.) Her ponytail is tied with a licorice stick.
** Some of the other ''Sugar Rush'' racers have candy in their hair too, though not to Vanellope's extent. Minty Zaki has a large candy wrapper tied in a bow, Snowanna Rainbeau has a spoon in her sherbet-looking FunnyAfro where a hair comb would stereotypically be, and for a male example, Rancis Fluggerbutter has a peanut butter cup on the side of his head. Most notably, Candlehead has an actual lit candle on top of her head.

[[folder:Films -- Live Action]]
* In ''Film/AnotherTimeAnotherPlace'', Janie almost always wears kirby grips or a clasp to her hair out of her face. She even wears them during her [[ItMakesSenseInContext awkward naked daydream]].

* ''Film/{{Matilda}}'': Matilda always wore a hair ribbon that she tied into a bow.
* Valeris, the SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute for Saavik, wears a silver hairband in ''Film/StarTrekVITheUndiscoveredCountry''. One assumes this is in line with Starfleet regulations.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* Children's book heroines are often associated with specific hair decorations thanks to their original illustrators:
** ''Literature/AliceInWonderland'': Alice Pleasance Liddell, who thanks to the Tenniel illustrations for ''Literature/ThroughTheLookingGlass'' (and a little help from Disney) is famously associated with the Alice band.
** Kiki from ''Literature/KikisDeliveryService'' is associated with a a large, floppy bow thanks to the original Akiko Hayashi illustrations. This was a CallBack to many classic children's book illustrations from the Edwardian era through the RoaringTwenties.
** Princess Ozma of the ''Literature/LandOfOz'' books is usually depicted with two large poppy flowers in her hair thanks to the original John R Neil illustrations. She's also frequently depicted wearing an elaborate golden diadem marked "OZ" but that's a [[CoolCrown different trope]].
* [[LongHairedPrettyBoy Jerin]] of ''Literature/ABrothersPrice'' chooses to include a blue ribbon in his braid. When he goes to court and the royal hairdressers get a turn with him, they braid beads, tiny flowers, and ribbons into it.
* In the ''Literature/CharlieAndLola'' books and the associated television series, Lola wears blue butterfly decorations in her hair.
* The main protagonist of Creator/RobinJarvis' ''Literature/DeptfordMice'' trilogy, a mouse girl named Audrey, always wears a pink ribbon in her hair. She ties it in such a way that "the top of her head look[s] as if it [is] sprouting".
* ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'':
** Gloria Thogsdaughter, one of Susan Sto Helit's classmates in ''Discworld/SoulMusic'', wears ribbons in the school colours. [[OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame In her beard.]]

* In the web-novel ''Literature/{{Domina}}'', Akane has a number of beads hanging from her ponytail. The significance of this has yet to be addressed.
* In ''Literature/TheGoblinEmperor'', at the elven court, both sexes wear lots of hair decoration, mostly in the form of sticks, combs and jewels.
* In ''Literature/HarryPotterAndTheOrderOfThePhoenix'', Dolores Umbridge is frequently described as wearing Alice bands and other hair ornaments not at all suited to a woman of her age. It's part of her sickly-sweet projection.
* In ''Literature/RachelGriffin'', Rachel wears a black and white polka-dot hairbow. At one point, while looking at another character's [[UnreliableNarrator memories]], can only recognize herself by seeing it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live Action TV]]
* On ''Series/BeakmansWorld'', all of the assistants' hair is riddled with adornments. Beakman even took a rubber band needed for an experiment right from Josie's hair once. This is a holdover from its source material, the NewspaperComic ''You Can with Beakman and Jax'', where the latter has a bunch of jacks stuck in her hair.
* On ''Series/{{Cheers}}'', Woody Boyd's girlfriend wore a plain-colored headband that emphasized her youth and [[VirginityMakesYouStupid innocence in every sense of the term]].
* And you can't go without mentioning [[PlayfulHacker Penelope Garcia]] from ''Series/CriminalMinds''. That woman's hair is like a Christmas tree. Quite possibly a nod to her youthful optimism and general eccentricity.
* At the end of the Swedish TV series ''Dårfinkar & dönickar'', [[spoiler: the 12-year-old main character, who's been going around dressed as a boy, reveals herself as female. In both the girly outfits we see her wearing, she has a matching bow in her hair.]]
* In ''Series/DoctorWho'', Zoe always wears an Alice band. Miss Kelly in ''[[Recap/DoctorWhoS6E5TheSeedsOfDeath The Seeds Of Death]]'' goes one better, with [[http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/File:GiaKelly.jpg something resembling a coffee cup]] attached to her ponytail.
* Quinn Fabray on ''Series/{{Glee}}'' seems to have a fondness for wearing cute clips and headbands along with her sundresses, contributing to her SeeminglyWholesomeFiftiesGirl look.
** Rachel also has a fondness for headbands. She even wrote a song called "My Headband". [[StylisticSuck It wasn't very good.]]
* Plot point in ''Series/GoGoSentaiBoukenger''--Natsuki usually wears her hair in twin tails. But when her true identity as the last princess of Lemuria is revealed, she loses the yellow bands that hold them, and turns against the team. Once she gets her memory back and returns to normal, she starts wearing the twin tails again.
* Blair on ''Series/GossipGirl'' was known for her headbands during the first two seasons, and it was even [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by Serena, who ripped off one during a fight once, and Dan.
* Would Philip from ''Series/KamenRiderDouble'' count? He uses binder clips and bulldog clips.
* ''Series/LizzieMcguire''
** Miranda Sanchez is known for this. There's even a montage of her wearing various decs in one of the Zoog Disney FourthWallMailslot {{Ad Bumper}}s.
** Many female stars on the Disney Channel wore hair accessories. Creator/HilaryDuff from the same show, Creator/RavenSymone on ''Series/ThatsSoRaven'', Creator/BrendaSong on ''Series/TheSuiteLifeOfZackAndCody'', and countless others.

* On the Korean dorama ''My Princess'' plucky heroine Lee Seoul always has an awesome hair clip, headband, or barrette.
* Marian from ''Series/RobinHood'' often wore a curved hair pin...she used it as a dagger on a couple of occasions.
* Emily from ''Series/{{Skins}}'' is never without a tiny adorable bow in her hair throughout S3 (precisely co-ordinated with the rest of her outfit, including her ''knickers'' at one point when she goes skinny-dipping), except when she's [[TwinSwitch pretending to be her twin sister Katie]] (at which point she combines their two signature styles with a giant, garish leopard-print bow).
* Vala Mal Doran on ''Series/StargateSG1'' tended to wear her hair in [[GirlishPigtails a pair of tails]], or at least had sparkly clips or a tiara. Compared with actress Claudia Black's neat little braid as Aeryn Sun in ''Series/{{Farscape}}'', the difference is impressive. It should be noted, however, that this does '''not''' make her [[SubvertedTrope any more innocent.]]
* On ''Series/TerminatorTheSarahConnorChronicles'', Sarah relates a story from her youth of frequently going to a drugstore with a friend from a slightly richer family with a single dollar to buy hair clips, barrettes and other bits of pretty for the friend's long hair.
[[MonsterOfTheWeek Callie]], the [[UndeadChild ghost girl]] from the ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'' episode "[[Recap/SupernaturalS03E05BedtimeStories Bedtime Stories]]" has a bright red headband in her hair, contrasting against her [[RavenHairIvorySkin Raven Hair and Ivory Skin]].
%% * Daphne in ''Series/StuckInTheMiddle'' has those.
* Elizabeth from ''That's Just Me'' always wore her long hair in ponytails, pigtails, rope braids, braids, buns, ondangos...and she never forgot her headbands! Later episodes have her with short hair, so now she wears pretty headbands and barrettes to keep her bangs out of her face.
* ''Series/TheThundermans'': Nora can be seen wearing hairbows in every episode.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Toys]]
* Most G1 ''Franchise/MyLittlePony'' ponies had bows on their tails.

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing'':
** Blathers's little sister Celeste wears a big pink bow. (Though these would be ''feather'' decs instead of ''hair'' decs...)
** The protagonist can also wear hair decs starting with ''Wild World''.
** Isabelle has a red hair-tie with bells on it.
* Tooty from ''VideoGame/BanjoKazooie'' has her hair in pig-tails.
* Coco Bandicoot from the ''VideoGame/CrashBandicoot'' series wears a ribbon or a flower in her hair depending on the game.
** Yaya Panda from [[VideoGame/CrashTeamRacingNitroFueled Nitro-Fueled]] has an orange ball-like bead on her hair.
* Many girls in the ''VideoGame/DeptHeaven'' games--particularly the girls of ''VideoGame/RivieraThePromisedLand''. Each of them has a hair decoration of some sort; even [[TheDragon Malice]] offers a hairband as an item drop once.
* ''VideoGame/EarthBound'':
** Paula wears a large red ribbon in her hair. She can also equip a range of ribbon accessories.
** The Mr. Saturns wear ribbons as well, although it's impossible to tell which ones are female and which aren't.
* ''VideoGame/EndRoll'': Gardenia lost one of her hair ornaments in Dozing Forest, so Russell spends his first day in the town searching for it with Tabasa.
* ''VideoGame/EnsembleStars'': Apart from individual cards, many of which feature unique hair decorations, some characters consistently wear hair decorations:
** Hinata and Yuuta can be partly identified by whether the hair clips they wear are pink or blue respectively, and very much fit the young GenkiBoy trope
** Souma uses a simple paper tie for his SamuraiPonytail
** Mao ties his fringe back with a clip which the characters acknowledge gives him the look of being unreliable (as male characters with hairstyles like this are typically the energetic idiot type) when he is actually TheReliableOne.
* ''VideoGame/EnslavedOdysseyToTheWest'' has [[TheChick Trip]] use a robotic dragonfly as a hair decoration. When resting, it stays perched tucked behind her ear, and its wings look like feathers.
* ''VideoGame/EternalSonata'': March and Salsa have their bunny ear decorations.
* Headbands and other headgear show up now and then in the ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' games. The most important decorations, however, don't usually show up on the character models: Those ubiquitous little Ribbons that confer immunity to StandardStatusEffects (and quite a few non-standards, as well).
** All three girls in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII'' wear noticeable hair decorations, both in-game and in character art. Aerith's is of particular importance: her red ribbon holds [[spoiler:the White Materia, needed for Holy]].
** Ritz from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyTacticsAdvance'' has a hairpin while [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyTacticsA2 the sequel's]] female protagonist Adelle has a bow.
** Rikku's hairstylings from ''FFX-2''. Beads and headband and braids galore! Yuna has her fair share of hair doo-dads, but Rikku's take the cake.
** [[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20081129145412/finalfantasy/images/6/65/Lulu_Menu.jpg Lulu]] also gets in on it: she has four decorative pins, each unique and with varying levels of decoration themselves, to hold her plaits in a bun on top of her head.
** Serah Farron, of Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 wears a pink or black jeweled hair tie to hold up her side ponytail.
** Creator/YoshitakaAmano laughs at the idea that this trope is AlwaysFemale:
*** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV'' protagonist Cecil's design in ''VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy'', true to his Amano origins, has a headband and beads in his [[LongHairedPrettyBoy long, pretty hair]]. Not only Cecil, but almost every character has some sort of bead in his/her hair, even if they weren't there in [[Creator/YoshitakaAmano Amano's]] original designs. And if by any chance they don't wear them in their head the beads will be in the character's outfit, this applies to [[Creator/TetsuyaNomura Nomura's]] designs such as Tidus or Sephiroth
*** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'' has Edgar, with not one but two pretty blue ribbons in his hair.
*** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX'': Do feathers count as hair decs if they're [[MixAndMatchCritter actually growing]] from Kuja's scalp?
*** [[http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130227105008/finalfantasy/images/c/cf/CaiusFMV.png Caius Ballad]] of ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII2'' has a several accessories--most noticably, his headband, but he also sports plenty of beads and feathers.
* ''VideoGame/FireEmblem'':
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight'' and ''VideoGame/FireEmblemMysteryOfTheEmblem'':
*** In any of his incarnations, [[RareMaleExample Prince Marth]] will wear a golden tiara. [[spoiler: Similar to the one worn by Lucina, one of his descendants, as she [[SweetPollyOliver masqueraded as "Marth"]]... sorta.]]
*** While Marth's girlfriend Caeda does ''not'' use hair decs, many of the other women in the games do: Cecil (white ribbon), Marisha (double orbs), Maria (yellow band), Minerva (gemmed band), the Pegasus sisters (headbands), Linde (headband and ponytail band), Nyna (gemmed headbands), etc.
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemGaiden'' and its remake ''Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia'':
*** A certain golden circlet turns out to be vital to the plot: [[spoiler: it belonged to Celica's MissingMom, Liprica, and it becomes Celica's key to promote from Priestess to Princess.]]
*** Several other girls wear hair ornaments, too: the Pegasus sisters (again, hairbands), Faye (two red bows tying her GirlishPigtails), Clair (metallic headband, only in the remake), Delthea (ponytail band), Genny (black band with a purple bow), Rinea (fluffy big flowers), Tatiana (diadem wit two big decorations) etc.

A Build 2!Female Avatar can be given two small hair ribbons, while a Build 1!Female Avatar can wear a slim forehead band... which can also be worn by [[RareMaleExample a Build 2 Male Avatar.]]
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemFates'':
*** Ths Female Avatar has ''many'' prospect hairpins and headbands, and official art gives her a black band with a golden brooch.
*** Almost all the women in the army wear hair decs: hairbands, tiaras, bows, veils, ribbons, [[MartialArtsHeadband martial arts headbands]], hairpins, combs and assorted ornaments.
*** ''Fates'' is also the rare game where several ''[[RareMaleExample men]]'' wear hair ornaments, including the Male Avatar, who can optionally be given a slim forehead band.
*** There's also the Accessory Shop as part of My Castle, where the Avatar can trade jewels and food for various accessories, including hair ones, and then give them to anyone in the army, regardless of gender.
* Doctor Judith Mossman in ''VideoGame/HalfLife2'' has a large, plain hair clip on the back of her head.
* [[DumbBlonde Tess]] from ''VideoGame/JakAndDaxter'' has a pink hairband.
* Several of the Presents in the ''VideoGame/KatamariDamacy'' series act like these. Interestingly, there's no gender boundaries, so you can have the Prince or any of the male Cousins [[WholesomeCrossdresser running around in]] [[EverythingsBetterWithRainbows pretty rainbow ribbons]].
* In ''VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters'', many girls use pins and bows. Yuri has a red band, Athena has a red hairbow with a golden star (and later switches to a white one), Mai wears a traditional pin [[ItWasAGift given to her by her late grandmother]], Momoko has a big fat pink bow, Xiangfei has baubles, Kasumi wears a red band with a small plate on the front, Chizuru has a white headband [[spoiler: and so does her sister Maki]], Rose either wars bows or a small crown. A RareMaleExample also occurs. [[DudeLooksLikeALady Ash Crimson]] and his black headband [[spoiler: which [[TragicKeepsake Elisabeth keeps]] when he's {{ret gone}}d.]]
* Ribbon from ''VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards'' has a bow on her hair.
* ''VideoGame/LoveNikkiDressUpQueen'':
** Nikki's sprite lack of any pins or ribbons, but the "Accesories" include '''many''' hats, hairclips, headbands, etc.
** Nikki's best friend Bobo offers a triple treat — she's got bows, flowers, ''and'' barrettes that all match her outfit. This offers a contrast with Nikki's other close friend Kimi, who wears a simple black bow on the back of her head.
** Queen Nanari has [[FlowerInHerHair lilies]] woven into her [[HairOfGoldHeartOfGold blond hair]], complimenting the flowers that adorn her gown.
** Many of Nikki's female friendly rivals wear one or another kind of hair decs: Bai Jinjin has black barrettes with golden stars, Aron has purple minibands, Timi has a tiny cat-shaped pin, Toto changes hair decs every time she changes clothes, Annabel has hair bows, etc.
* Not only do girls in the ''VideoGame/LuminousArc'' series wear various kind of headgear and hair accessories, but you can also buy and equipt some of them with '''ribbons''' as armor.
* ''VideoGame/MegaManClassic'': Roll has a simple green ribbon bow in her hair.
* Neptune and her sister Nepgear from the ''VideoGame/{{Neptunia}}'' series wear D-Pad-shaped hairclips. Nepgear has only one while her older sister wears two.
* Lip from ''VideoGame/PanelDePon'' has a blue double-orb hairclip on her ponytail and a big pink bow on top of her head.
* The ''[[Franchise/ShinMegamiTensei Persona]]'' series seems to like this trope.
** The original ''VideoGame/{{Persona}}'' has Maki's red ribbon and Yuka's green scrunchies.
** In ''VideoGame/Persona3'' we have Aigis with her... headband/headphone thingy (though it's because she's a robot), Maiko's scrunchies, and Yuko's hairclips.
** The female main character in ''[[UpdatedReRelease Persona 3 Portable]]'' has her [=XXII=] hair clips, which are an alternate numbering of the Fool Arcana.
** In ''VideoGame/Persona4'' we have Nanako's ribbon hair ties, Yumi's single clip, Hanako's ribbon clips, and Margaret's and Yukiko's headbands.
** In ''VideoGame/Persona5'', there's Ann's single clip, Makoto's hairband (which looks like a ''braid''), Hifumi's red three-leaf clover rope knot, and [[spoiler:Lavenza's headband with butterfly and rose ornaments]]. There's also two rare adult examples with Chihaya's headband and Sae's hair clips.
* Nearly every single human {{Player Character}} in the ''{{Franchise/Pokemon}}'' video games has a hat, bandana, or some head accessory. The characters from the core series all have them, and even in ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'', where you can customize your outfit, [[http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:PlayerCharactersGrouped.png hats are still mandatory.]] In ''VideoGame/PokemonRanger'', the player characters wear red sweatbands on their heads. Guardian signs switches this to goggles. ''Shadow of Almia'' doesn't have this for the boy, but the girl has pigtails that are held with visible pink scrunchies. ''VideoGame/PokemonConquest'', based on feudal Japan, has these [[http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Conquest_Heroine_I.png samurai-like]] [[http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Conquest_Hero_I.png head pieces]]
* Flora, ''VideoGame/ProfessorLayton'''s adopted daughter, is never seen without her hair tied back in a dark pink ribbon.
* ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog'':
** Amy Rose wears a headband. Her younger/classic version that was used until ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'', despite looking like she wore a headband, actually wore a handkerchief of sorts.
** Tikal wears a tiara.
** Blaze wears a hairband.
* Several characters from the ''VideoGame/SoulSeries'' (mostly of the "cute girl" variety, such as Cassandra, Talim, Amy, Xianghua, Seung Mina and Tira) wear various hair decs. While not of the "cutie" sort, Taki and [[ActionMom Sophitia]] also wear them, though obviously not to the same effect. Setsuka's hair decorations are the most elaborate in the series, especially in ''SC III'', where her hair is piled up on top of her head in a geisha/oiran style, held in place with various ornamental clips and combs.
* ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsNEO'': Sharlie Lunoille uses hair decs.
* In ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'', most Pokémon can be pimped with ribbons, hats, and other head accessories to help tell them apart.
* ''VideoGame/TalesSeries'':
** ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheWorld'': The three Kanonnos all have hairbands and season-appropriate attachments to complement their pink hair: a tulip (spring) for [[spoiler:Pasca]] Kanonno, a coconut tree (summer) for Kanonno Earhart, and a maple leaf (autumn) for Kanonno Grassvalley.
** ''VideoGame/TalesOfZestiria'' has all of the girls in the party wear some sort of hair decoration which include a flower, beads, a headband, and a ribbon.
** ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia'' has Leia wearing a headband with flowers before switching to a NiceHat in ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia2'' where Elize also gains a pair of ribbons for her pigtails. In both games Jude can get hair decorations as well from his school costume hairstyle that involves using hair clips on one side of his head.
* A few female characters in ''VideoGame/{{Tekken}}''. Regular users of the trope are [[RobotGirl Alisa Bosconovitch]], who has a flower-like ornament ([[spoiler:which [[RebelLeader Lars]] keeps as a TragicKeepsake after her unwilling FaceHeelTurn]]), and both Julia and Michelle Chang, who wear headbands with feathers signaling their Native American heritage. [[AloofDarkHairedGirl Jun]] and [[BigGood Angel]] also have those (a white headband and a tiara respectively), which add a sophisticated effect.
* Most of the [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters very large cast]] of ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'', or at least the ones without {{nice hat}}s. Some of them go one better and wear ''both'' nice hats and hair decorations, like [[CuteWitch Marisa]] and [[GadgeteerGenius Nitori]]. For some examples:
** Nitori, Komachi, Kisume and Shinki use double-orb fasteners for their pigtails.
** Marisa, Sakuya, and Hong Meiling all have ribbons for their braids, as does Orin for her twin braided ponytails.
** Yukari's long, full-bodied hair is usually managed by tying the ends together with a set of ribbons.
** Reimu, Cirno and Utsuho have a single, large ribbon centered on the back of their heads.
** Youmu and PC-98 Alice have a smaller ribbon placed off-center of their head.
** Suika has a large ribbon ''and'' a cube ''chained'' to her hair.
** Mokou and Rumia have paper talismans ([[UsefulNotes/{{Onmyodo}} Ofuda]]) tied in their hair. Justified in Mokou's case because it seems these talismans stop her hair from burning because of her own [[PlayingWithFire fire spells]].
** Sanae has a Frog hairclip and a Snake decoration thing coiled around her hair. They represent the two goddesses she serves under (Suwako being the frog, and Kanako being the snake).
** Both Reimu and Sanae wear pairs of hair tubes. It seems to be a {{miko}} thing.
** Hatate has a pair of ribbons for her [[GirlishPigtails twin-tails]].
** Seiga's hairpin is notable in that it's actually a "Wall-Removing Chisel" that she can use to [[IntangibleMan pass through walls]].
** Kosuzu wears two bells in her hair for each of her pigtails, relating to how [[MeaningfulName her name means "little bell"]].
* In ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'', female goblins have a few hairstyles with skull decs in their hair. It's pretty damn cute.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Visual Novels]]
* Maya Fey, a young Spirit Medium from the ''Franchise/AceAttorney'' series, wears orb-shaped jewels in her hair, which could be considered her trademark, seeing how she doesn't even take them off whenever she changes out of her usual Kimono (in the games, as well as in official artworks, except for a single, rather old, picture, where the orbs are replaced by fluffy ribbons). Also, supporting character Maggey Byrde wears hairclips, which complement her cute face.
** Kay Faraday from the ''[[VisualNovel/AceAttorneyInvestigationsMilesEdgeworth Investigations]]'' spin-off wears a hair stick that's shaped like a giant key. When Edgeworth asks her how she even gets that into her ponytail, her only answer is silence followed by a "No comment."
** Maya's little cousin, Pearl, has a cute purple hairband as a child. When she gets older, she keeps the hairband but gains a jewel in her hair just like "Mystic Maya".
* In the VisualNovel/AsagaoAcademyNormalBootsClub the female protagonist, Hana, wears a red bow.
* In the ''[[VisualNovel/EfATaleOfMemories ef]]'' visual novels, every single one of the heroines has some kind of hair dec. Miyako? Great big yellow bows. Kei? Headband. Chihiro? Hair clips. Mizuki? Little hair ribbons. Yuuko? Big fat white bow.
* ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'': Rin Tohsaka has a bow for each of her trademark [[GirlishPigtails pigtails]].
** Sakura Matou has a single red ribbon [[spoiler: that Rin gave her when they were little girls before she was taken away by the Matous]], and Saber ties her hair with a blue one.
* ''VisualNovel/{{Tsukihime}}'': Most of the major girls have something. [[TheOjou Akiha]] has her hairband, [[{{Meido}} Hisui and Kohaku]] have a bonnet and a big ribbon respectively. [[TokenMiniMoe Ren]] has an even bigger ribbon.
** Going into ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood'', there's Sion and her NiceHat and Miyako with her hair ribbons.
* ''VisualNovel/{{Kanon}}'''s [[{{Bokukko}} Ayu]] is never seen without her [[MementoMacguffin hairband]]; in addition to being a visual identifier, it also functions as an [[ChekhovsGun extremely important plot device]].
* Most girls from ''VisualNovel/{{CLANNAD}}'' wear hair ornaments; most notable are the mirrored clips of the Fujibayashi twins, Fuko's purple ribbon and Kotomi's hair baubles.
* ''VisualNovel/HigurashiWhenTheyCry'': Satoko wears a headband and Mion wears a yellow ribbon. Subverted with Hanyuu, as in-series some do believe she's wearing hair accessories however she really ''does'' have [[HornedHumanoid horns]].
* ''VisualNovel/UminekoWhenTheyCry'': Beatrice has a [[FlowerInHerHair rose]], Lambdadelta has bows, Ange has baubles and Maria has a headband with a small crown attached to it.
* ''VisualNovel/TokimekiMemorial'':
** Many of the girls use different kinds of hair decs. In the first game, main heroine Shiori collects them, so if you give her clips and ribbons you'll get quite the brownie points with her.
** And in the ''Girl's Side'' versions of the games, you get brownie points with your date-guy if you wear his preferred type of (hair) accessory.
* ''VisualNovel/YoJinBo'''s Hatsuhime keeps her hair tied back with a big red bow.
* ''VisualNovel/EienNoAselia'' gives some ribbons to Lemuria to make her stand out more. She's the most normal looking girl among the cast after Kyouko. [[spoiler:It also serves to differentiate her from Lesteena.]]
* All of the ''VisualNovel/LittleBusters'' girls have at least one decoration: Rin has her bell, Komari has two stars and two ''very'' long ribbons, Haruka has spherical hair bobbles on her ponytails and two clips on her fringe, Kud has a little [[AnimalMotifs bat-shaped]] clip, Kurugaya has a big yellow bow, and Mio has a pink headband. Of the Ecstasy girls, Sasami has two [[AnimalMotifs cat-ear-shaped]] bows, Kanata also has hair bobbles, and Saya has two large white ribbons. The girls also end up putting a bow in Riki's hair when they [[DraggedIntoDrag drag him into drag]].
* In VisualNovel/TrueLoveJunaiMonogatari, the PatientChildhoodLoveInterest Mikae Morikawa uses a simple yellow band.
* Chiaki Nanami from ''VisualNovel/SuperDanganRonpa2'' has a hairclip shaped like an 8-bit spaceship, rather fittingly for the Ultimate Gamer.
* Chigara Ashada from ''VisualNovel/{{Sunrider}}'' has a red bow in her hair, which sometimes acts as ExpressiveHair when she feels flustered. It’s not just for show, either—she and Asaga both mention that the bow can be used to shock people like a taser. In the ''[[HighschoolAU Sunrider Academy]]'' spinoff, [[IdenticalTwinIDTag it’s also used to distinguish her from her twin sister Lynn]].
* The elaborate ArtNouveau-inspired uniforms of ''VisualNovel/SweetEnchantments'' include golden hair decorations for all of the women [[LongHairedPrettyBoy and Zain]]. Runa and Zain each wear a hair-clip behind an ear, and Zain also wears gold and purple beads in his hair; Emeril has a puffy brown and gold bow to go with her GirlishPigtails; Liora, the boss, wears a gold circlet with a [[FlowerInHerHair pale purple flower]] over one ear. When the heroine starts working in the cafe, she gets a hair clip with a gold rose design to go with her uniform.

[[folder:Web Animation]]

* ''WebAnimation/TokyoMagicStar'': Sakura wears a pink bow in her hair and Ichigo has a black ribbon.
* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'':
** Blake Belladonna wears a black bow at all times to hide her LittleBitBeastly cat ears and avoid prejudice because of them.
** Other hair decorations include Weiss Schnee's snowflake-like hair tie, Penny Polendina's own hair bow, the Malachite Twins and their flower-like hair decs, and Pyrrha Nikos' circlet [[spoiler:which is all that is left of her after Cinder murders her.]]
* ''WebAnimation/DSBTInsaniT'': All of the [[ClothingSwitch Clothing Switches]] have one so far.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Comics]]
* In ''Webcomic/{{Blindsprings}}'', Tamaura's enormous hairdo is decorated with roses.
* ''WEbcomic/ButImACatPerson'': Miranda's ever-present beads, and Bianca's [[http://erinptah.com/catperson/chapter-two-page-17/ butterfly clip]].
* Anne from ''Webcomic/CogaSuro 2''. Given that the only time she's ever been seen without a hairband of some colour is [[spoiler: when she transforms into a lightning-shooting skeleton thing,]] she is most definitely cuter with it by default.
* ''Webcomic/CrystalHeroes'': Marina wears not just one, but eight hair clips, and even wears [[https://www.crystalheroescomic.com/page-4/ different]] [[https://www.crystalheroescomic.com/page-75/ color]] hair clips in the same fashion to match her outfits.
* Persephone in ''Webcomic/DestroyerOfLight'' sometimes wears flowers in her hair. Her mother is a harvest goddess, so it pretty much comes with the job.

* Toni from ''Webcomic/HannaIsNotABoysName'' wears an X barrette.
%%* ''Webcomic/HelloCthulhu'' certainly springs to mind.
* The standard design for [[SillinessSwitch Trickster Mode]] characters in ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'', both in canon and in fan designs (some of which ultimately [[AscendedFanon became canon]]), includes some sort of foodstuff worn like a hairclip. It started with [[http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=002153 a lollipop for John]] (hit Ctrl+T in-game), and ([[CallBack much much later]]) was expanded to include [[spoiler: [[http://www.mspaintadventures.com/trickster.php?s=6&p=007663 a cupcake for Jane, a pumpkin for Jake, an ice cream cone for Roxy and a can of orange soda for Dirk.]]]] Clearly, the hair decorations aren't even the silliest thing about them.
* In ''Webcomic/TheInexplicableAdventuresOfBob'', Jean is defined visually as the GirlNextDoor partly by the ever-present barrette in her hair. She loses it in the course of one adventure, and Bob finds and returns it to her. Her response is, "Thanks, Bob. I... Well, I feel off-model without it."
* ''Webcomic/{{Megatokyo}}'': [[http://megatokyo.com/strip/970 Piroko]], [[http://megatokyo.com/strip/748 Yuki]], [[http://megatokyo.com/strip/1078 Miho]]? Well, probably all of them, really.
* Emily in ''Webcomic/{{Misfile}}'' wears a headband because she doesn't like her widow's peak. It also serves as a symbol of her insecurity because she is very self-conscious without it.
* TheWoobie Hannelore from ''Webcomic/QuestionableContent'' wears a pink hairband [[http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1611 in one comic]], boosting the urge to glomp to dangerously high levels.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* This isn't uncommon to see in a lot of female characters circulating somewhere on the internet, examples include [[http://heist-hex.deviantart.com/art/Metamorphosis-Hair-62359065]] and [[http://hazelruko.deviantart.com/art/The-hair-got-mess-up-253897537 here]]
* Many of the OS-tans have some sort of iconic hair ornament in most of their incarnations. In particular, the "XP"-shaped barrette of XP-tan comes to mind.
* As of summer 2013 it's become popular on Tumblr to photoshop flower crowns onto people of either gender that you're a fan of. Examples include: the casts of ''Series/{{Sherlock}}'', Franchise/StarTrek, Wendy Davis and the TX Democrats... To name a few.
* Early ''Franchise/{{Noob}}'' webseries episodes and comics show [[TomboyWithAGirlyStreak Catherine]], Golgotha's player, wearing hair decorations: a bow-shaped barette in Season 2 and a big hairbow in the fifth comic.
* In her review of ''WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeastTheEnchantedChristmas'', WebVideo/TheNostalgiaChick wore cute little bows along with her usual [[GirlishPigtails pigtails]]. The fact that the review was heavy on her own brand of Nerd-Rage is probably just a coincidence.
* The Cat, from Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, never appears on camera without her signature headband with cat ears attached.
* ''Literature/WhateleyUniverse'' examples: Geomancer and Generator at [[SuperheroSchool Whateley Academy]]. They're both high school freshmen, although Generator looks like she's about eleven. Geomancer likes ribbons in her hair. Generator likes sparkly hairclips. But they've been ''weaponized''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Videos]]
* ''WebVideo/TheAutobiographyOfJaneEyre'': Adele Rocherster is a little girl who is into girly things, and often sports a ponytail or plaid, and so she wears various bands, ribbons and headbands. In one episode, it's clear that she and her nanny/tutor Jane were experimenting with hairstyles and hair decoration, and they are both seen wearing very nice headbands in similar style.
* ''WebVideo/ManicPixieDreamWife'': Simone, the manic pixie from the title, is a fan of quirky clothes and she wears various cute Hair Decorations (crocheted decorations, artificial flowers, butterfly hair clips, bands, or sea shells). Once she starts working in an office, she gradually starts wearing plain, corporate clothes and stops decorating her hair. Her husband Chance is afraid she's 'broken'.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* Obligatory ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' example: Toph's headband. Also, to some extent, the clips that hold Katara's hair loopies together.
** On ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'': Korra's hair is normally seen in an encased tri-tail style; Asami always has half of her hair pinned back with a [usually] simple hair clip; and Ikki has her little yellow [[BuffySpeak hair bun thingies]].

* Diana in ''WesternAnimation/MartinMystery''.
* Lil of ''WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}}'' wears a pink bow in the only lock of hair she has. She occasionally trades it with her brother Phil to pretend to be him--they can still be distinguished from each other, if you look closely, but the only real distinction is that he wears shorts under his duckie smock and hers is a dress. Lil also has longer earlobes in most episodes, and she wears pink shoes in contrasts to Phil's blue pair.
* Both Rose (a headband) and Haley (bands in her GirlishPigtails) have hair decorations in season 1 of ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDragonJakeLong''. With the huge art design revamp of season 2, they were removed.
* Applies to the majority of cute female characters in ''WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleRescueRangers''. Even Gadget's goggles may count--[[GogglesDoNothing she certainly doesn't wear them for their practical utility]]. One of the main differences between her and [[EvilTwin Lahwhinie]] is that the latter is wearing a flower in her hair. On the other hand, Gadget is seen wearing the very same flower instead of her goggles in two other episodes.
* A few ''WesternAnimation/CodeLyoko'' girls and women wear accessories in their hair. Sissi Delmas in Season 1 wore a headband, while in Season 4, she traded it in for a couple of hair clips. Yumi normally wears her hair down during the day, but ties it up during the night. Milly is always wearing pigtails.
* Jazz in ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'' has a headband. Considering the trope itself describes it as girls wearing it to "look younger", it is an ironic choice that Jazz would wear one when she claims she's "an adult stuck in a teen's body". Learning to embrace her childhood while she still can IS part of her CharacterDevelopment.
* On ''WesternAnimation/DanielTigersNeighborhood'', Miss Elaina wears a pink hair band and two pink scrunchies, while Chrissie wears a pink hairband with blue and yellow floral decorations and a second pink band to hold her ponytail. * Giggles and Petunia from ''WebAnimation/HappyTreeFriends''.
* ''WesternAnimation/HeyArnold'': The reason Helga wears her pink bow is that Arnold told her that he liked it.
* In ''WesternAnimation/JinxyJenkinsAndLuckyLou'', Lou wears a four-leaf clover in her hair, [[BornLucky appropriately enough]].
* ''WesternAnimation/KipoAndTheAgeOfWonderbeasts'': Kipo, noticing how Wolf hair blocks her eyes when she does some of her more acrobatic moves, gives her a hair clip to keep it back.
* ''WesternAnimation/LittleAudrey'' herself.
* ''Franchise/MyLittlePony'':
** All the Ponies in ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyAndFriends'' had a ribbon on their tail. Megan, the TokenHuman, had a pink bow too, and her little sister Molly had hair baubles.
** In ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', Applejack's kid sister Apple Bloom wears a big pink ribbon in her hair. Also, Princess Celestia and Luna wear status-appropriate tiaras. Some of the Gala dresses Rarity makes in "Suited For Success" include these; Rainbow Dash's comes with a laurel wreath, Rarity's comes with a tiara, and Fluttershy's includes flowers in her hair.
** In ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTVSpecials Rescue at Midnight Castle]],'' Bowtie had two yellow ribbons in her hair, along with her tail ribbon.
* WesternAnimation/PepperAnn wears a blue scrunchie in her hair for her ponytail.

** CreepyChild Suzy Johnson, the manipulative little sister of Candace's boyfriend Jeremy, wears two blue bows in her hair.
* ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls'':
** Blossom wears a large bow.
** The main design difference Bubbles is given in the [[WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls2016 2016 reboot]] is that she now has blue hair decorations holding up her GirlishPigtails.
** In [[ComicBook/ThePowerpuffGirls the comics]] Bubbles' EvilCounterpart Brat has her [[RapunzelHair large pigtails]] tied with bows. Blossom's evil counterpart has huge, curly ribbons in her hair.

* In ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'', baby Maggie wears a powder-blue bow. Lisa sometimes wears a red bow for formal occasions.

* Molly from ''WesternAnimation/TaleSpin''.
* Starlee Hambrath, of ''[[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fast Forward]]'' wears a headband, which is itself decked out with two small disks attached at each side, making it look somewhat like a pair of goggles.

* The most iconic part of Sid Chang from ''WesternAnimation/TheCasagrandes'' is indeed her pink headband.

[[folder:Real Life]]
* Though she does not wear them often, Mallory Ervin (Miss Kentucky 2009-10) wore flowers in her hair for her official Miss America portrait.
* Very much TruthInTelevision in the Victorian Era, according to [[http://www.judgmentofparis.com/board/showthread.php?t=756 this post]].
** Ribbons and bows were mainly popular with younger women for daytime; feathers and plumes of all sorts were so popular as evening accessories, especially during [[LaBelleEpoque the 1890s and 1900s]], as to be almost mandatory.
** Advertisments and illustrations from the EdwardianEra onwards often depicted little girls wearing huge hair bows. This carried over into children's book illustrations right up until the 1920s.

* French ''[[Series/AmericanIdol Pop Idol]]'' winner Julien Doré wears one as his trademark. As an walking example of RealMenWearPink, he [[http://www.stars-celebrites.com/DORE-JULIEN/dore01.jpg more than gets away with it]].
* Former ''Series/DanceMoms'' dancer Jojo Siwa likes wearing bows.

* ImportantHairAccessory: Wearing or removing
a hair accessory signifies character (almost always a young girl) wears in her hair--bands, clips, {{flower|InHerHair}}s, ribbons, tiaras, you name it--to make herself look younger and cuter.

Sometimes this overlaps with
development.

* ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh'':
* ''Anime/{{Beyblade}}'':
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
* ''Manga/BungouStrayDogs'':
* ''LightNovel/LoveChunibyoAndOtherDelusions'':
* ''Manga/FruitsBasket'':
* ''Manga/FushigiYuugi''
* ''LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya'':
* ''Manga/KaguyaSamaLoveIsWar'':
Her older and younger sister also have their own
accessories (Toyomi having a flower clip at the end of her side plait and Moeha having a pair of bows to hold up her pigtails)
* Tiff/Fumu from ''Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa''.
* ''Anime/LittleWitchAcademia'':
* ''Franchise/MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha'':
* ''Manga/MahouSenseiNegima'':
Ichigo's
are distinctive enough that the male lead, Shouta, realizes she's the one being described by someone as soon as strawberry hair clips are mentioned.
* Also shows up in ''Manga/OniisamaE''. Tomoko wears a bow on her TomboyishPonytail, Aya has barrettes, Junko has two red ribbons, Fukiko wears a headband (and
used to wear a hairbow in her youth), Miyuki uses double-orb pins and "Lady Vampanella" Hoshino wears a red bow. Normally Nanako doesn't wear anything in her hair since it's rather short, but when SheCleansUpNicely she tends to put on twin ribbons.
* ''Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub'':
** [[CosplayOtakuGirl Renge]] has a giant bow on her head
indicate that makes her stand out from the rest of the girls, though it doesn't really make her cuter, just more Renge.
* ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'':
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'':
* ''Manga/RurouniKenshin'':
* ''Franchise/SailorMoon'':
* Chika of ''Manga/StrawberryMarshmallow''.
* ''Anime/TheSwissFamilyRobinsonFloneOfTheMysteriousIsland'': Flone wears an exotic flower.
* Almost everyone from ''Manga/ShugoChara'' with a Guardian Character has a hair decoration which transforms to show
a character change. Amu Hinamori, for example, wears an X-shaped barrette which changes to match whatever Guardian she's using. The boys of the series are not immune.
* Various ''Anime/TenchiMuyo'' girls get in on this. Most memorable
is Sasami, with her pigtails and orb thingies.
female.

** Arusu wears a red barrette with a circular tip on the right side of her head and two yellow simple barrettes on the left side of her head.
** Eva wears brown bands at the end of her GirlishPigtails.
**
MeaningfulAppearance: When she fought Wizard Kingdom alongside the wizards to retrieve the True Book of Spells, Atelia wore a pink black-trimmed band at the end of her hair.
* ''Manga/WanderingSon'':
* ''Manga/{{Yotsuba}}'':
-->'''Asagi''': Oh, how cute.

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* Ghost girl Talia of ''ComicBook/BrodysGhost'' wears several hairclips, including one with a skull and one with a heart.

* ''FanFic/PrettyCurePerfumePreppy'':
* WesternAnimation/{{Coraline}} has a dragonfly.
* Violet from ''WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles'' starts to wear a headband in the middle of the first film.

* ''WesternAnimation/WreckItRalph'':

[[folder:Live Action TV]]
* On ''Series/BeakmansWorld'', all of the assistants'
hair is riddled with adornments. Beakman even took a rubber band needed for an experiment right from Josie's hair once. This is a holdover from its source material, the NewspaperComic ''You Can with Beakman and Jax'', where the latter has a bunch of jacks stuck in her hair.

But when her true identity as the last princess of Lemuria is revealed, she loses the yellow bands that hold them, and turns against the team. Once she gets her memory back and returns to normal, she starts wearing the twin tails again.

* Would Philip from ''Series/KamenRiderDouble'' count? He uses binder clips and bulldog clips.

their two signature styles with personality.

If
a giant, garish leopard-print bow).
* Vala Mal Doran on ''Series/StargateSG1'' tended to wear her hair in [[GirlishPigtails a pair of tails]], or at least had sparkly clips or a tiara. Compared with actress Claudia Black's neat little braid as Aeryn Sun in ''Series/{{Farscape}}'',

[[folder:Video Games]]

* ''VideoGame/EarthBound'':
** Paula wears a large red ribbon in her hair. She can also equip a range of ribbon accessories.
** The Mr. Saturns wear ribbons as well, although it's impossible to tell which ones are female and which aren't.
* ''VideoGame/EndRoll'': Gardenia lost one of her hair ornaments in Dozing Forest, so Russell spends his first day in the town searching for
it with Tabasa.

** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight'' and ''VideoGame/FireEmblemMysteryOfTheEmblem'':
*** In any of his incarnations, [[RareMaleExample Prince Marth]] will wear a golden tiara. [[spoiler: Similar
points to the one worn by Lucina, one of his descendants, as she [[SweetPollyOliver masqueraded as "Marth"]]...

* Ribbon from ''VideoGame/Kirby64TheCrystalShards'' has a bow on her hair.
* ''VideoGame/LoveNikkiDressUpQueen'':

* ''VideoGame/TalesSeries'':

* ''VisualNovel/TokimekiMemorial'':

* ''WebAnimation/DSBTInsaniT'': All of the [[ClothingSwitch Clothing Switches]] have one so far.

[[folder:Web Comics]]
* In ''Webcomic/{{Blindsprings}}'', Tamaura's enormous hairdo is decorated with roses.
* ''WEbcomic/ButImACatPerson'': Miranda's ever-present beads, and Bianca's [[http://erinptah.com/catperson/chapter-two-page-17/ butterfly clip]].

* Diana in ''WesternAnimation/MartinMystery''.
* ''WesternAnimation/LittleAudrey'' herself.
* ''Franchise/MyLittlePony'':

** In ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', Applejack's kid sister Apple Bloom wears a big pink ribbon in her hair. Also, Princess Celestia and Luna wear status-appropriate tiaras. ** In ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTVSpecials Rescue at Midnight Castle]],'' Bowtie had two yellow ribbons in her hair, along with her tail ribbon.

* In ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'', baby Maggie wears a powder-blue bow. Lisa sometimes wears a red bow for formal occasions.

* Molly from ''WesternAnimation/TaleSpin''.

* The most iconic part of Sid Chang from ''WesternAnimation/TheCasagrandes'' is indeed her pink headband.

** Advertisments and illustrations from the EdwardianEra onwards often depicted little girls wearing huge hair bows. This carried over into children's book illustrations right up until the 1920s.
